Mine growing up was a broiler but we always used it for storage and had no idea how to use the broiler since the whole thing was so old you could barely read the rubbed off temp markings
THIS. Ours growing up was a broiler, and I had an apartment with one as well. But most I come across now are storage. Never heard of the warming drawer though!
This is what I was assuming. At one time, I was curious whether or not my pans being stored in my oven drawer were getting hot when the oven was heated. I checked and they were all cold. Also my model has the broiler in the oven. So mine is definitely storage!
That's what mine was called, and yes, we are very southern, but is it just a southern thing, or does everyone have a grandmama? I also had granny and mom-mom . My husband also had grandmammas, too.
We’re southern but we never had a grandmama but I knew plenty of them. I have a grandma and papa, a meemaw and pawpaw, and a mimi(meemee) My kids have 2 nana’s but pronounced differently…one is the usual that sounds like (nan-nuh) and the other (nah-nah) she came up with that last one herself lol)
My 3 year old has a Granddaddy. And yes, we're from TN. I had a Granny and a Nanny, but no Grandmama. I like it, though. It's cute. Maybe I'll be a Grandmama one day...
But when you were growing up, are you sure yours was the warming drawer or was it really just a storage drawer for your pots and pans as not all stoves have a warming drawer. Yes, I do get that not everybody uses it as its intended for. Just like some are broiler drawers.
@@beaby1977I know for 100% fact that mind growing up was a broiler drawer but it was still used for the pots and pans & I continue to use it like this to this day. 🤣😂🤣🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️
Awww that must be reall sweet memories. 🥰 both mine gad passed away while i was in high school so i didnt get a chance to ask them much of anything. Preteens/early teens are def awkward phases 😂
@@DixieNormousssI am sorry. Mine both passed away when I was younger too. It kills me now that I have children, I wish they’d have gotten to meet them. I feel they’d have been proud of who I’ve become. I’m sure yours would be proud of you, too! ❤
In some ovens that’s a storage drawer and in others it’s a broiler. I know from experience because at an Airbnb they stored sheet pans in there and I went to grab one from the drawer after I had turned the oven on and about burned off my fingerprints! Never heard of it being a warmer drawer as well, but it very well could be in some models!
Hunter I mean this with full respect and no envy but Devin is a treasure. She's glowing. I hope when my time comes I have something as special as you do
Appliance sales person here. If the handle is on the outside, chances are it's a cooking or warming drawer. If it has a pocket handle, it's definitely a storage drawer. Not all gas ranges have a broiler in the bottom and not all electric ranges have a warming/cooking drawer. She definitely has a warming drawer. That looks like a Cafe range which is high end and generally has all the bells and whistles.
My electric oven has a handle on the storage drawer. In fact, I've had 4 electric ovens & 3 out of 4 had handles on storage drawers. Never had an oven with a warming or broiler drawer, although I've seen them on some models.
To be honest I'm 46 and I have no idea I've heard that they can be warming but I'm fairly certain That's on fancy schmancy models. I got like a GE I don't think it's a warming drawer but it's empty just in case I guess But I really could put my cookie sheets in there dang nabbit😊
@@JustReadingwithJazzy my absolute favorite thing in the broiler are buttered bagels. Cut them open, butter side up, and leave them in the broiler for literally seconds. They'll burn so fast, but in about 30 seconds the butter will caramelize and toast up- life changing. You can also broil/toast anything topped with cheese to be nice and browned/bubbly. I used to use my broiler for cooking steaks instead of grilling them. The rub will char nicely on the outside, but the steak stays med rare inside. Just never ever walk away from your broiler or you'll burn your food lol.
In older/antique stoves it was a warming drawer, and some newer "fancy" ovens have them as a warming drawer still. Most of the non-warmers are big drawers, about twice as deep as the one you have. If I had seen yours, I would have assumed yours WAS one, since it is more shallow. I guess the best way to tell is...does the drawer get really warm when the oven is in use. Luckily it's oven items we put in there so nothing gets ruined if it is one. : )
It's a broiler/warmer in a gas oven in an electric oven it's a storage drawer that's the difference!!!!!! I've had bothdepending on the apartment and, each of my grandmother's also had opposite ones as well because one had an electric oven and the other a gas oven!
I also have a electic and it has a warming drawer. I've never used it, and use it for storage, but there is a button thar says "warming drawer on/off" and there are heat elements below the metal drawer. So there goes your theory! 😉
Depends on the oven. In my first apartment it was a broiler, in my first house it was just a drawer, and in my current house it’s a warming drawer- now my broiler is inside the oven
Is there an obvious difference between them by sight? Bc I swear I had the same interaction years ago when I was told this info and then-nope probably not yours. So I gave up lol
@@alirae3663 Not from the drawer itself on the outside, but you can tell by the buttons up top. They usually signal where the broiler is... you can also just look for the coils. My current oven has warming on the stovetop AND a warming drawer, so that's awesome
The dexcom tan kine in your thigh! You are legit glowing & your tan is fabulous! You are seriously the cutest & such a beautiful pregnant woman & you carry it so well!😍😍 I just love the 2 of you brother, you guys compliment each other personality wise,😊 seamlessly!
😂😂😂💀💯✊🏽 this is hilarious! It has definitely always been our broiler that doubles as a storage drawer when not in use. The oven too. Just gotta remember to take the stuff out when preheating. 😂💀💯✊🏽
God bless her for getting all dolled up everyday that pregnant because at her stage of pregnancy I looked like the troll under the bridge that doesn’t let you pass unless you answer 3 questions 🧌😂
Pregnancy never looked so pretty! Girl, you're glowing! ❤ I've alwaysc used that for storage too even though I was told long ago it's a warmer. In 50 years, I've never seen ANYBODY warm anything in there, including my grandma nor my great grandma.
@@13lilsykos Hello. I had a broiler on the bottom years ago too but there was actually a heating element in there for broiling. The ones they have now do not have heating coils in that compartment, they have a button to broil in the oven and the bottom drawer is really to keep food warm. We place pans in ours but never plastic since it would melt. I remember my Mom broiling steaks a bit on the bottom though, haha. God bless you!! Peace, Lynne 🍃💜✝️💜🍃
@@lynnecarnivale6414 - I saw another comment that said gas stoves have it for warming but not electric. I grew up with electric but now have gas... Do you know anything about this?
@@13lilsykos Hello. I would have to do some research and find out. I could be wrong but I grew up with gas and electric stoves and I think they both had broilers under the stoves. Mine is electric today with no broiler... just warming drawer. My stove has a broiler option in the oven. I press a button to broil. Things that make you say, Hmmm! Haha God bless! Lynne🍃💜✝️💜🍃
lol this is so funny! Until about 2 years ago I thought the exact same thing!!!! I was in shock when my friend told me it was to keep food warm 😂 glad I’m not the only one
It's actually a broiler iv made the best steaks . Just turn to broiler on your knobs and the broiler is on the upper part. And when I'm done using it I put my stuff rt back in it. So it's both
It USED to be a warming drawer. Women would cook dinner and want to keep it warm till the hubby came home, so it was kept in the drawer. Some models are still made this way, others use it as a storage compartment, and others use it as a broiler
While you are cooking in the oven, it's for keeping food warm. Once the oven is off, you can store stuff in it. I'm 55+ and my grandma kept her cast iron in the oven.
There was a warming part on the older stoves that used a "fiya" wood to keep it going! 😊 I have always used mine for stove trays muffin tins baking tins😊 Love this
In older gas ovens the burner was on the bottom and the drawer was just below said burner and was originally meant to be a broiler. But people would still store pots and such in it when not in use. Later most ovens were built with a burner on top AND bottom so u could broil in the main oven which was better insulated and the drawer was left as part of the design because people were used to having the extra storage in their ovens.
My oven has a button to turn on a warmer in that drawer and it does work!! It's probably an upgraded option for many models. We bought the house with it.
Jayce... Hunter is pulling your leg. Your stove isn't 100 years old 🤦🏼♀️🤣🤷🏼♀️ He's just trying to get you going. Hunter, you're wrong for that 🤣🤦🏼♀️ Shes pregnant & carrying your boy. Let her be.... protect her at all costs cause she's a darn gem 💎 🤷🏼♀️💯
My mom melted my silicone bakeware under there… it was the broiler but we never used it so she didn’t think it got hot… LMFAOOOOO she was wrong she was soo soooo wrong…. SMOKE EVERYWHERE IT WAS AN ABSOLUTE MESS!
The cutest part of this, for me, was picking up the phone and calling her grandma. It just hit me in the feels and made me cry. My Grammy passed 19 years ago but Alzheimer’s took 10 years from her before. She was the greatest woman in the world and I forgot just how much I miss her. Crazy. Moral of my story is, if you can, call your grandma and tell her you love her.
I'm 51... so my 95 year old grandmother once had an oven in the early 80's..😅(it was brown!😂)...that had a "broiler" drawer! (My uncle used to make those "English muffin pizza's😋 down there!).... but growing up, any oven my mother owned had an actual drawer we kept just the lids for our pots & pans.😊
ITS A WARMING DRAWER I SWEAR TO SWEET JESUS me and my dad always use it to keep things warm and or make them crispy. I HATE people to put pots and pans down there USE A CABINET FOR GODS SAKE
I'll be 60 in August. I never had a problem w/milestone days before, until this one. I've been in therapy trying to heal since I was 11 after my parents divorce (my dad was a narcissistic abusive alcoholic, I was the youngest & having the hardest time adjusting) & even a rehab stint in 2008 then followed by dv counseling & programs starting in 2008. The positive is that I've been sober since 2008 however white-knuckling sobriety & life this whole time. But what I've finally realized is that what I need, what most of us need actually, is SOLUTION-BASED therapy. Good luck finding that! Just like with big pharma, you carry little to no 'value' if you're healed. I feel as though the only interest that big pharma & therapy has is money as their bottom line. The, keep 'em sick & keep'em comin, business model. I know what my issues after delving down that dark hole for almost half a century, but nobody TEACHES you how to move past it all. I have ADD I learn differently, perhaps that's the problem. But, it's also something the therapists have been aware of as well. Here I am still stuck & exhausted from it all, I feel as though I really didn't haven't gotten much further emotionally than when I was 11, except I'm sober.
I randomly came across this video, and my first thought was: Is this man maybe a younger brother of Spaniard Fernando Alonso, the two times Formula 1 world champion and Le Mans winner for Toyota? He's his spitting image. Then I noticed these are people from the USA. My bad, folks! 😅 Greetings from a Fernando Alonso fan. 👋
No, chances are it's just a storage drawer. After decades of delivering appliances and particularly ovens I can say the VAST MAJORITY do not have broilers or warming drawers anymore.
My great grandmother used it to warm breads while cooking above. I’m in Bama with you and it’s a STORAGE DRAWER for pans and cast iron! Both are correct though lol
Some stoves stoves are still warming drawers. And if you don't have that drawer ax, you're actually properly setting correctly. You're Oven will actually, cook too hot 🔥
That is the pan drawer, no doubt about it. My 1st 23 years were in Alabama and no one, absolutely no one, use it as a warming drawer. Also, Granny is NEVER wrong!❤😂
When I was growing up I was kind of fearful of that drawer because ours was the BROILER. Even my grandmama would make me the best toast ever using the broiler drawer. When i got older I watched my roommate use our drawer for storage I was so confused, I still see the drawers as broilers by default. I just learned you can broil in the main oven… I really didn’t know that. Don’t the broilers open differently though? Not like a drawer but a door.
In her defense those aren't always warming drawers. Poor folks can't afford the warming drawers. The basic stove just have a place for storage. ( Former appliance salesman speaking)
Also when I was a baby my mom had to block me from getting in the kitchen because I would steal my dogs dogfood she’d come out and I’d have my cheeks full…. (Purina…. Don’t knock it til you try it LOL) but I’d also take out all the pots pans from that drawer and I’d sit and play in it 😂 i was an only child… my entertainment options are limited LOL
Mine has a warming drawer... its obvious tho as there is an oven rack in the bottom. You can remove it if you want to use as storage for cookie sheets etc. My stove came with a pan for water and instructions how to STEAM CLEAN my oven... it goes in the bottom warming drawer. I keep the pan and rack in the bottom and my cookie sheets in the cupboard as they take up less room LOL! My oven is electric (convection) with a gas stove top... hybrid LOL! My broiler is inside the main oven like most electrics you just switch it to broil. I grew up with gas ovens with no storage just a lower broiler. ❤
So many people giving their opinions, so here is a major FYI. Ex-appliance repair tech here. If it has a pronounced handle (like the model shown, which is either a GE profile or a monogram), it’s a warming drawer. If the handle is just an indent on the panel, it’s a storage drawer. This is the standard in the industry.
That's my pot & pan drawer. Was my momma's, too, but I just learned the same thing within just the past few years and I am 55. 😂😂. I have never tried it as a warming drawer, but makes sense I guess. Keep some foods warm until others finish cooking.
Mine is where I store my baking pans and things that don't fit in the cabinets very well or at all....I have NEVER heard of that being used to warm things up and I am 42 yrs old and that's the first I've heard of any such thing lmfao🤣
I'm seeing a bunch of your Mama's and Gma's failed you.... I'm sorry she was too busy chasing a remedial career instead of staying home and passing on the family history of your women.... we out here losing recipes ...
It appears from the answers that different stoves have different designs. Amazing, huh? Read the manual for your particular stove should answer the question.
We have a gas cooktop and oven. Our “drawer” is a second oven that heats to 500. We do use it as a drawer to hold our cooking stones until those big cooking days - Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc! I think it depends upon the type and brand of unit you own but historically I believe they were more often drawers.
Girl, I'm 36 and found that out when I was like 28. I couldn't believe it! My whole entire life my family and then myself kept the oven bits in there. Even after finding out that it's a warmer I've still have never used it as a warmer lol Could be convenient for large families and cooking over the holidays tho
😂I never store ANYTHING in that drawers because in every home I’ve ever lived in I’ve eventually found mouse terds in it. I’m not keeping anything in there cause I don’t want to encourage rodents!
So in the old days in GAS ovens specifically it was the broiler!! But now they just make it a storage drawer…… they don’t make things like they used to and this is an example of that 😂😂😂
Some ARE storage only! I had an old GE double oven electric, and both overs had storage drawers. I have a gas range now, and it has a warming drawer, and I STILL keep my lids in there! 😀
I'm 40 and just learned that on the old eye stoves the eye on the back right is a warming eye. If the oven is on, you can put a pan on that eye without turning it on, and it will keep that pan warm. Something new EVERY day. Lol
I love your wife! I agree, may have the functionality of a broiler, but it’s where you store cookie sheets and other assorted baking goods! Also, have to say, love where you’ve secured the Omni pod. Also a t1d!
Growing up I made breakfast every Monday-Friday. Ours was a broiler I used to make cinnamon toast In it. But 45 years later I have a oven That drawer is used for storage
