Thanks for this Justin! Does anyone else remember in the late 2000s, early 2010s when NAMM was this really big thing and it always felt like a second Christmas seeing all the new stuff being released? And eagerly waiting for the drum manufacturers to update their websites on the first day of NAMM to see the new finishes for the year. I always enjoyed it, but it seems like Tama is the only one updating their website now, and usually at the beginning of the year and not during NAMM anymore.
NAMM was massive in 2019 and 2020 as well. Then a ton of companies vanished when it came back after covid. I think it'll build back up, but it'll probably take 5 years. Companies in general announce stuff on their own time now.
Holy hell...manufacturing....is at an absolute all time greatness. Surethis stuffs expensive, but ive seen so many tthings ive never seen before/dont know even know what kt is,but damn thisstuff is mind blowing. How does a light make it look like bubbles are floating around?
At the Yamaha enterance... "Can I see your badge please...?....." ( As the dude in front of you walks right in. Lol... ) Just thought that was funny. I would have kept on ,walking though, just to see what happened. 😆 In anycase, cool video ! Thanks for posting it !!! 🥁🥁🥁
Justin this was fun and kinda trippy. it looks like all the (finest) instruments in the world playing in one room actually sounds like a headache. Still I wish I’ve been there. Tnx so much
That was great dude !!!!! I should have payed you the $35 I spent on an online NAMM pass...lol Thanks !!! I hope you have more footage of just edrums and make a video !!! That would be great ! I could have watched an hour or MORE of what you just did !!! THANK YOU !!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Namm charges $35 for an online pass??? And yes I've got plenty of edrum footage, there's just a time crunch to make a namm recap video first thing before people lose interest
Man i would love to visit namm some day in the future. My country, Malaysia, doesn't do these kinds of stuff in the huge scale. They only do regional scale ones which not everyone musician or regular people can attend. I can feel the hype just by watching this walkthrough you did here. It would be a dream come true if only i can afford my way there. 😢 I love it man. 🙏
Justin, thank you!! It may not seem like it to you, but this was one of the most interesting videos you have done. I have never been able to fully visualize the NAMM layout & experience, but now I have good grasp of the scene. I also now understand why different instrument groups are placed separately. That drum hall must be loud when people are playing. The scale of the DJ & Tech & Pro Audio spaces give a person a good idea of how the music industry has evolved over 30 years. Too bad Roland & DW did not participate. Hopefully they will have big news in 2024. Thanks again!
I expect the namm either to completely change to smaller office spaces for just doing bussiness (like the MusikMesse has on the top floors) or end completely. A lot of brands have other ways for shops to test their new gear, and in modern times internet and streaming save costs in a overflown market big time for all parties.
There's a whole section of those office spaces. But I think there's hope yet. I wouldn't be surprised if 5 years from now, the numbers get built back up to pre-pandemic levels. But you can tell it's going to be a slow process to get there.
Everyone that can go should. We all need to support it to keep it going. If you haven't been to one, it's a wonderland of gear, people, music, connects, and a hell of a party. It's my favorite time of the year.
Thanks for posting this! You must get recognised constantly in drum world! Notable moments: 5:42 Hampback - hadn't heard of them. Maybe some review content? 6:14 Subdrum - I could see mounting a small subwoofer speaker in an e-kit kick pad is a great idea. 7:04 Some drum legend I'd be crucified for not knowing who it is? 7:44 Does that kit foldaway completely into that box? 8:04 RGB pads - had to happen I guess.
It was awesome to see Roland & the DW booth. How 'bout the DW eKit ! Glad they decided to show up at NAMM 😛 Cool that Pearl, Sonor, Gretsch, Mapex. Alessis, Ddrum all showed up. 🤣 How much did this trip cost you again ? . Thanks for the upload Justin
My thoughts exactly! Each year it feels like NAMM is becoming more of a thing of the past. I recall Pearl updating their website with "New Finishes for 2022" sometime in late 2022. I wish drum manufacturers websites would be updated more frequently!
I'm thinking the DWe still isn't quite ready for prime time. But when Roland does get a booth, they spend ungodly amounts of money on it to make a big splash at the convention. ddrum was there, just in a tiny booth, i'll cover them later
@@65Drums Roland charges "ungodly" amt's for their stuff . Not complaining, jus sayin. Saw Sweetwaters NDV talking to Yamaha rep. He said Yamaha has the wireless capability for edrums at 0.4 ms or 0.04 ms latency ?The stupid camera guy didn't show it ! 😞 Infact I think they were saying the whole band could perform wireless !
@@dilankarun9172 Yamaha did launch some wireless headphones with low latency, which is what I think you're talking about. This is the press release: "Yamaha® YH-WL500 wireless stereo headphones are specially designed for practicing musicians. They offer ultra-low latency response (
Hey Justin, was there anything in the E-Drum world that blew your mind? Anything like a “this is gonna change the market/a totally new approach/this is should have been designed this way from the beginning” types of gear? Thanks brother!!
Just curious - were you able to spend any time looking over the new EFNOTE PRO 7 series? Looks like they have done some pretty cool things with the module and that breakout box.
Great walk through video!! I went to Namm with my teacher Dom Famularo a few years back. We got treated very well but the noise level was insane!! Dom was fine the whole time but I had to take noise breaks, it was too much, lol. It’s super cool at Namm and being with Dom I got to meet everybody and ended up setting up a few lessons with some great teachers while I was there!!
Easiest way to describe NAMM, imagine if 15 guitar centers were placed in row together... now, remove the walls between them. Imagine the noise of such a situation... that's NAMM in a nutshell. There are some cool things there but its definitely loud just all the time.
I used to work in the industry and got free tickets every year. You pretty much nailed it, and it hasn't change much since 20 years ago when I was there last. I really wish it was more artist than sales oriented. It would be cool to have band showcases or something like that in the side rooms.
I see what you're saying James, and thankfully there were a bunch of free concerts through the day and at night. There's a special outdoor stage for that. But I'll take devils advocate here and say that I'm glad NAMM is gear oriented. For me, NAMM is about keeping on top of music gear releases, and developing industry relationships. If NAMM just turns into a thousand little concerts, then it might as well be a standard music festival. I go with a media badge to review products and keep up on the industry. Instrument sales is what pays for everything at the end of the day. That's just my take though
@@65Drums No I think your take is spot on and the reason the show even exists. To me it feels a bit less gear oriented than sales oriented, but it was always a place to get my fingers on necks and get a feel for whatever was new. I was advocating for both! lol Thanks for the response.
Have watched a bunch of Namm run-throughs and this was great! Standout for me in all the videos was Cream Guitars. Great shapes, innovative features and amazing finishes!
Interesting, looks like NAMM is going down the tubes just the same as its European counterpart, the Frankfurt MusikMesse. Fortunately SuperBooth and other more niche/indie shows are taking over.
Que Maravilha Coisa Mais Linda Todo Tipo de instrumentos e Vários Modelos Eu Amo instrumentos Gosto de Verdade Muito Bom mesmo Amêi Parabéns Muito Chique 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾♥️♥️🎤🎸🎻🪕🎷🎺🥁🪗🎹🎙️♥️
😢 the piano world. 1,273 pages of musical instruments on Craigslist and 1000 of those pages are new or used pianos...yet here they are at NAMM with MORE!
Thank you, Justin for showing us not only drums. My boss and a colleague going there, but I haven't been there for sometime now. Thanks to the internet and youtube and ....... YOU. Cheers!
Too bad we normal people aren’t allowed to go to NAMM. What I mean by normal people aren’t allowed to go to NAMM is this: to go to NAMM, you must be one of the following: a manufacturer, a demonstrator, a retailer, a guest musician, a content creator, or you must have a friend who’s one of the ones mentioned. If you’re not any of these things, don’t bother buying a ticket to it. They’ll most likely kick you out even if you bought one.
Thanks for the vid J. I couldn't see me paying all that dosh to go there, I went to the London Drum Show back in the late 80's and I as all over it. It was only drums. They tech from Simmons did a wicked demo on the sds 9 playing midi keyboard chords. Plus afterwards, I spoke to him and said on of my sds8 pads had a buggered locking screw and he took my addy down and I got one in the post in two days for free.
Thanks for the recap Justin! While there was a lot of companies not there, it was neat to see other ones I had never touched or heard of their product before in person. The Piroth and Odery drums were stellar. Great to meet you in person at the show and chat all things e-drum and get to know you on a semi-personal basis - hope to see you again at the next NAMM! --Dominick
Hey Dominick! It was cool meeting you! I don't get to have many in-person conversations about obscure electronic drums very often. So that was a lot of fun, take care :)
reminded me of my trip through CES back in 92 or 93 in Chicago. Every day I went through a different floor and carries all the literature in bags I could carry out,,,but what an experience!
Wait, I saw those exact images but with someone commenting (I remember the guy saying no one stops at the Rickenbacker booth because they don’t have something new for decades). Funny.
10:50 I love the "price is right" hand gestures ha ha! Thanks for sharing and great editing, nice attention to audio and overlapping ambience through the cuts. And 12:26 isnt a framereate issue, its a shutter speed issue :) and the poor "iLok" guy ha ha.
Thanks man! You’re right it was probably a shutter setting that could have synced the blades up. Glad you enjoyed the video! It was mostly shot with an iPhone 13Pro on a DJI Gimbal. Just a ton of editing to get it cut down from 2 hours into something worth watching
Thanks for doing this! I haven't been in several years so it was good to see it again. Hopefully you'll have another video that will focus on the drums, especially what's new with E-drums.
nos eua é facil vc ter oq vc quiser pq sua vida basica é garantida se vc tem um trabalho... nao precisa se preocupar com aposentadoria nem reserva de emergencia, nem comprar a casa propria..
These convention center things make me depressed cause no one is gonna buy these things unless it shakes the tiniest niche market it’s trying to aim for
No I think it's really fun to look at the weird stuff. There's plenty of normal instruments. But you can already look at those at Guitar Center. I had to cut out a lot of clips of boring instruments to get this video short enough.
