I don’t think I will ever recover from this episode 😭 I was even sobbing while editing 🥲 ALSO!! I hear Adam Smasher is in the game at some point but reminder that I haven’t played more than an hour of it 😅

Just for Context there is a way to Cure Cyberpsychosis. Mike Pondsmith, the guy who created Cyberpunk has said that cyberpsychosis can be cured by love. It's Human connection that helps a person recover from it and love is the strongest form of connection. That is why David is this resistant, his Love for Lucy litteraly keeps him sane.

Lucy got free and got out of Night City, that's the happiest possible ending in Cyberpunk

Don't worry, David definitely died for something since Lucy was able to go to the moon, and it wasn't just a tour. In their world/timeline, people have already begun migrating to the moon and other parts of space, so it's safe to assume that Lucy was able to migrate there too and escape Night City. Also yeah, the game definitely deserves a second look. It just won the Steam Labor of Love award because of how they updated/fixed the games issues throughout the years and it's so much better now, especially in regards to performance. Phantom Liberty expansion coming this year too.

This takes place before the game. So it's kinda obvious that Smasher won't die.

I watched this show on Netflix not knowing what cyberpunk even was. When I watched the show I became so interested in the world and it made me by the game and it has turned into one of my favorite games/show. I could watch this show over and over again and still cry like a baby when Maine goes psycho and David dying😂

15:25 he didn't die for nothing. He was living fir the dreams of others. His mom, Maine and Lucy. In the end, in a way, he completed it all. The last smile was his way of showing he was satisfied with what he achieved. Dude became a legend in one year

So Adam Smasher was mentioned in passing earlier in the series by the Ripperdoc, and is a major character in the Tabletop series and also featured prominently in the Cyperpunk 2077 video game. He is a person who has gone so far deep into Cyberpsychosis that he came out the other end appearing more sane than when he entered (mostly due to the fact that he had no empathy or humanity in him to start and was already a complete sociopath even before getting his first upgrades.) He is currently employed by Arasaka Corp, and usually takes missions where Arasaka does not care about collateral damage or loss of life. If you play the game, you get the chance to get revenge by fighting him. Given the common themes of the Cyberpunk game, what you witnessed was actually one of the best endings possible. The other more likely possible endings are much, much worse. Especially if you understand the statement about Adam Smasher suggesting that David being a good construct. If you want to use Rebecca's gun in the game, you can find it near where she died, and is very powerful gun.

How can you say David died for no good reason? He saved Lucy, that's what he wanted to do, nothing else mattered. The reason why you should play the game before the show! Adam Smasher is explained in the game and he is an important character in it. This anime is prequel to the game

Another thing about how David "died" is that while he came very close to going psycho, he remained David till the very end

Smasher has a very long history in Cyberpunk from the RPGs, Cyberpunk 2077, and of course Edgerunners set in 2076. Without spoiling the game, Adam Smasher for want of a better term is a "functioning Cyber Psycho" in that he's coherent and rational (to a degree) but is also so far detached from humanity (nearly a full borg almost no organic left) who was a gangoon (the cyberpunk version of a gang member), former military soldier (before dishonorable discharge), turned merc who doesn't care about collateral damage. in fact he only takes missions where collateral kills are guaranteed. On one of his merc jobs he met the business end of a missile and was basically turned to piles of meat that his colleagues put in a bag and ran away with. Arasaka gave him a new body for near exclusive rights to use him as their merc.they call him the night city boogie man because when Arasaka wants a problem to go away, they send smasher (ironic considering who plays a character in the game who also has than moniker in a different franchise 😀 The only thing that's probably keeping him in line is a rivalry he has in the roleplaying games and the fact that it wouldn't be surprising if arasaka has a kill switch built into him.

its different experience when you first finished game and then watch Edgerunner and you see Adam Smasher.. you know that he is in the game and game is set in 2077 while edgerunner in 2076

It's how Adam Smasher has been as far back as the original Tabletop RPG that the video game and this series was based on. His stats are so ridiculously high, featuring him in a campaign is a guarantee total party kill.

Well Adam Smasher is both in games and overall lore kinda the most sadistic ruthless killer in whole Night City he both way a refferenc also a mistery for newcommers someone who i used as the boogy man im my time dm-ing cyberpunk pnp he is a full cyborg whos brain sits in arasaka hq in a jar

"It just feels like he died for no good reason." David was already dead from the moment he slotted that last piece of chrome. Cyberpsychosis would inevitably drive him into a stark raving monster, a soulless beast inhabiting the shell that used to be his body while /David/ was long gone, and there was nothing he could do to stop it. The final episode isn't David struggling to live, it's him picking what he feels is worth dying for - to trade his life for the life of the woman he loves - and then using the last few hours of his life to make damn sure it happens. So yeah, it's tragic as hell, but it was his choice.

Such a sad ending but David kept his word to lucy and all the others he promised to. If anything him dying is the best ending because if he was spared by Adam and was forced to work for Adam he probably would be paid to hunt and eliminate his surviving comrades, So as sad as it is, it's the best ending and he goes out as a satisfied hero

Adam Smasher is the one who captured silverhand so who else can kill David if not Smasher? Jhonny also hit the arasaka tower same as David and v after that and the former 2 were killed/captured by Smasher. Actually we all who went through the game knew where it was going the moment Smasher joins in. Also David can't live a happy life his conscience won't allow it. It is maine's dream who was like a parent to him that he is carrying . David has one goal to send Lucy to the moon it is his only dream. BUT STILL I WANTED DAVID TO LIVE, SO SO MUCH 😢.

So, in the old Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop rpg Adam Smasher is the npc enemy you break out when you want to kill the hell out of your players. He's bad news any time he shows up in the ttrpg.

david dying for no reason IS the tragedy of this show and this city. david was a smart kid with a lot of opportunity and a supporting mother but once the city took it away he was left with little to no options. from the beginning david was always trying to live out other peoples dreams (his mom, maine, and finally lucy) without even thinking about his own. he couldnt save his mother or maine OR fulfill their dreams but he was able to help lucy achieve hers. only by the end it didnt matter that she was on the moon because she didnt have her man with her. david not having a dream and putting other people before him is his characters nature and thats what makes this tragedy so sad. also adam smasher was referenced in the show and its probably a good thing you didnt get too far into the game because you would have realized that david was fucked and had no chance of winning lol

I understand your point about him dying, that it felt like it wasn't neccesary, but that's also sort of the point really. Throughout the show Lucy and Rebecca both told him to go 'easy on the chrome', and he always considered himself to be special, stronger. Which he was, to a certain extent, he just went over the edge. And he got clapped by Smasher. There's also the fact that Lucy and David stopped conversing to one another, where we as the viewer know that if they'd talk to each other, things could potentially work out better for them. But they unfortunately never really talk. Which is also realistic in a way, especially seeing as they're both pretty young. Communication isn't your strong suit when you're an 18 year old that's addicted to any substance (in David's case it was augmenting himself), but in real life it couldve been a multitude of things, where your relationship just slowly dwindles down. Which also happened to them. We just see it from an 'all - seeing point of view', where we get upset they don't talk, or do what we want them to do. As far as endings go, I personally always believed their relationship for an anime show feels very real, you get to see their highs, but also their lows. Unfortunately we only get to see snippets of their relationship, since it time skips a lot, and we sort of have to fill in the blanks, but overall we sort of get the thing that's going on between them. In pretty much every anime I've seen, any relationship is always super 'tropey', this at least felt like a realistic way of how a relationship would go. Same with Arcane, I really liked Vi and Kaitlyn. As far as Adam Smasher goes, he's (i've only played the game) a pretty big villain. In the game he's a lot less powered up, in the anime he is actually intimidating. If you liked the show, you should check out the game, it's really solid (after 2 years at least).

Multiple people have already said this but I will say it again, this was the best possible outcome not only for David but for everyone involved too. If David would've survived this fight which by the way is near impossible, he would've kept experiencing cyberpsychosis which I would imagine is very hard to come back from so for me I am glad that he died a legend and didn't die by the hands of max-tac as just another statistic.

A fact for the people who keep saying "David did it for nothing", its kinda wrong. I dont remember the article but one of the polish guys who talks about the show explained that the "cyberpsychosis" is kinda cancer. When it starts, after some point you cant just change it back or fix it. So after David started to realise that he has "Cyberpsychosis" (after when he shot that woman in Corpo), he kinda knew that it was over for him. When you look at the show with this knowledge, you can understand it better imo. That makes so much sense on why David is even trying harder after he got the symptoms of it. He knew that he didnt have too much time left, so he basically wanted to free his loved ones. And in that regard, he rescued Lucy. I think that all "Hey Maine just downgrade your equipment for a while" talking, confused people also myself too. Those lines feels like you can basically stop it by removing them but in reality if you started to have symptoms, you became a ticking clock. Removing your gear would only slow it down maybe (i dont know it, just guessing). Also when will we get a show where the guy lives and the woman dies just for a change lol. As a guy, watching all this "sacrifice" shit feels fucked up lol.

The thing about the history of Adam Smasher is that he is a constant character from the beginning of the board game, through this series and still in the game. Timeline is something like boardgame 2020 - 2023 , Edgerunners 2076, game obviously 2077. So to those who played the game, read the book or played the game he wasn´t so new anymore. I knew him only from the computergame when I saw the series because I never read the book or played the boardgame. But there is a video that is in my opinion very well made where the guy explains who Adam Smasher is and where he did come from. The sad part is that when lucy went to the moon she went without a cable and stayed in the moon committing suicide (in one of the ending of the game u can go out to space and if you look at the moon you can see a figure just standing there and it could be Lucy sadly)
