I am Ghanaian. I admire your boldness and clarity... ......but to say If a man doesn't kneel,I won't or words to that effect is a bit of misinformation and misinterpretation of that cultural practice as I saw it amongst the Youruba in a church I worshipped in, in SE London,Ngozi! It was a beautiful gesture acknowledging the elder one greeted.I learnt it and greeted a Yoruba Grandma in the church amongst us as the teenage-lovely- Yoruba girls would kneel as they greeted me-a Ghanaian;their mother's age. My son-a Ghanaian shared a flat with Yoruba young men in his uni days. When their Dad visited from home-Naija,they,including my son went facedown in greetings. My son loved it! There are lot of undertones in cultural and traditional practices and to interpret this through the lens of 'man/woman' is a misrepresentation,to say the least.

To put this in context, she is from the Igbo tribe. It is different there. In Yorubaland the men prostrate while the women kneel. In Igboland the women kneel while the men stand and tilt their heads. So there is a big difference. That is what she is saying. Why does she have to kneel when the men just stand? She is just calling for equality.

Stop going back to the old testament. If we follow the Old testament fully, you will not be alive today.

Y'ALL commenters should put away your pride and man-made egos and, stop with negative comments. The Bible didn't ever mention that anyone should bow down to any human being. All the oppressive lifestyles, are man made. Even courtesying to the queen is man made. All the crude oppressive cultures, rules should be eradicated/abolished. GOD says the man is the head of the home, did He say the woman should bow down to the man? Honour, respect each other, not one Lording themselves over others to feel important/stroke their egos. All these inhumane man-made cultures needs to be stopped, periodt. EVEN GOD DIDN'T SAY BOW DOWN TO ME. REVERENCE IS GIVEN TO GOD WHEN YOU BOW DOWN IN PRAYERS. YOU PRAY TO GOD ANYWHERE, IN ANY POSITION, HE LISTENS AND ANSWERS. DANIEL IN THE LIONS DEN, JONAH IN THE BELLY OF THE FISH. Y'ALL COME ON ,LET'S STOP ALL THESE UNNECESSARY MAN-MADE ACCOLADES. WE'RE ALL CREATED THE SAME BY GOD.

This is just the pride that excessive professional success pur in some women. If Chimamanda was a simple woman with a simple good job could she challenge African traditional routines.

Take Chimamanda to the British royal family let's see if she can challenge the royal expectations of the royal family.

So let me educate you. According to British rules, people who are not subjects are not entitled to curtesy. Chinamanda if she stands before King Charles will not be entitled to kneel before him. She is not his subject.

I love Chimamanda so much, but don't like when she rubbishh the Igbo culture, calling it nonsense. U believe in equality, but God who created heavens and the earth did not make man and woman equal. Man is always the head. Unless you don't believe in God.

God made man and woman equal. Genesis 1: 27. And Galatians 4:18

If Chimamanda is invited to British royal family to drink tea with the queen or king of England can she refuse to subject herself to traditional routines? Can she? Does she have the courage to tell the royal family she can't follow royal norms. Let anyone who knows her ask her this question. She only has power to talk to local royalties.

You weren't listening. She will do anything as long as the same human treatment is meted across board.

Don't say i wasn't listening. In the British royal family there are things women do in the palace as signs of respect to the queen and the household that men are considered not to do. Google it to see yourself. Even in the Bible and Coran Incase you are a Muslim there are things women do that men are not expected to do as routines.

God describes men as heads of the family and Chimamanda doesn't believe in that she believes in equality in marriage why in God's marital law there is nothing like equality.

Chimamanda can you call British royal family's traditional routines and Norms nonsense? You call your ancestral traditions nonsense because men are excluded from kneeling. Total disgrace. In the British royal family, the princes and princesses have special way of greeting the queen when she was alive and you must follow it without complaint. Can you Chimamanda criticize it?

You're misinformed. In Britain, everyone courtesies to the ruling monarch. Which is similar to what she said. If men will be obliged to do same, she won't mind.
