Hello guys and gals, it's me Mutahar again! Recently this year it seems many high-profile games have decided to launch physical copies without the data entirely placed onto them. For the past few years gamers have touted that most physical games you buy have no content on them and serve as a simple license, while in few cases it's true in the vast majority of the sample it appears to not be the case. Thanks for watching!

Good. I hope this happens to everyone that supports digital. Without people mindlessly supporting this wicked system which takes ownership away from the consumer, companies couldn't get away with this bs because they'd go broke. So they would have to give us value or simply perish. All of this is only possible because enough people have bought into the scam and fallacies which is digital media. I hope you learned your lesson. Assuming you're not making the whole thing up. And while I do feel kind of bad because 3k is a lot to lose, in the end you only have yourself to blame. Losing access to your downloads is only one of the nasty effects of digital. There are many more. Normalization of releasing incomplete products, not owning your own purchases, not having the potential to sell or trade your media if and when you decide, being dependent on servers for access, etc. Digital would be fine if it was just an option. But they're trying to force everyone into that realm, for EVERYTHING. All their media. You will own nothing and be happy as they say.

I'd argue this doesn't just apply to video games but ALL forms of media as well. Movies, CDs, TV shows, Books. Everything is digital now, and I think it's highly important that we as a society start making a uturn on that because the last thing I want is to live in a world where big corporations can dictate to me what I can and cannot consume, even if I paid full price to use their services. Again, that's what this is, A SERVICE!! That's it. They are effectively allowing you into their sandbox to play, and can close and open it whenever they want. Fully on board with what Mutahar. Physical allows you to have ultimate control over your own media. It's yours forever. Please ladies and gentlemen, don't volunteerily give up your rights as a customer to these big businesses. They truly do not give 2 shits about you. They see us as walking ATM machines that can be milked to kingdom come. Not true. This happens every time storage mediums fall out of technology. It happened with floppies... That became cartridges, and that became CDs and that became DVDs and that became BluRay... The problem is that the overwhelming majority of games are too large to fit on disc medium these days. There is also other infrastructure engineers need to consider, such as the disc reading hardware. There's a reason the PS5 with the disc tray is over a hundred dollars more. These companies save piles of money by the mere removal of a disc, they don't need a subscription model.

I think this applies everywhere. Movies, TV series, Games, Books etc. Yes digital for many is convenient and simple, but say for Movies and Shows, all it takes is a company to lose a license and we no longer have access to it until someone else comes along and hopefully picks it up, especially more so with exclusives. Same for games, all it'd take is a publisher to stop selling a game on any platforms its on and you lose the only legal way to get said game (especially more so, once again, if its an exclusive).

Great discussion, great job I’m an avid collector of all things physical myself … games, movies, music, magazines and so on and right now I’m very happy with the ps5 right now as the majority of Ps5 games to date will play at least the entire main story/campaign completely offline and that’s brilliant … I will however not tell others what they should do and if they want to buy digital they should be able to buy digitally but I will always advocate for physical releases as an option, it’s an option, the consumer should always have options

23:56 - I felt that. I can live off a backlog for the rest of my life, literally. Companies really are about to find out how completely stupid getting rid of physical could be if they go through with it. Along with the stupid people thinking its a good idea on top of it. Also, I'm pretty sure Sony/Microsoft/Nintendo can decide if a digital license for a game that's added to their console stores should be regularly updated or not to a current version to preserve earlier releases of a game. At least on PS3, I recently downloaded a handful of Splinter Cell games that all needed to be updated to the latest version afterwards manually. IDK if that's unique or whatever, but companies can probably control that choice. I can already see a benefit of that with games like RE4 remake on PS5, where the speedrun is completely fucking dead if you have a digital copy of the game since Capcom proceeded to patch almost everything in the game AS WELL AS revert performance fixes in another update afterwards.

I really wish everyone would understand that these companies are not our friends. They don't want what's best for us and the only reason they try to maje things good is because they know it'll get them more money. Me too. Digital is convenient but it really sucks when it comes to finding games at a good price (the price they would be going for it they weren’t digital.) You either go physical or just straight up wait for a yearly sale and it’s not fun. It’s all up to the corporates at that point and they can easily shill the market for $ at that point. Not to mention, you wouldn’t own the game, Sony/Xbox/Steam could shut down at any point in time and you would have NOTHING. At least when services get shut down you’d still have the services you bought if it’s physical. That’s why I’m so against stuff like Game Pass, it’s too easy for it to go away and for what? Shovelware products with some AAA titles in between? No thanks.

Game pass is great ive owned it for years now and never have they just removed a game i adored to death and played every day. People make it sound like its INEVITABLE that digital copies of games will be taken from you when in reality its something that very, very rarely happens before you can get your fill of the game. And game pass isnt even a thing where youre paying for every game you play individually, its more or less supposed to be a place where you can try out games before you decide to buy and keep them permenantly. So its not like theyre actually taking anything from you when they remove it off game pass because you never owned that product in the first place. Furthermore they have a whole section of "leaving soon" games so its not like you dont have forewarning or just wake up one day and cant play the game.

I do think another problem with this push for digital only is that really encourages more unfinished product too. While I do appreciate Hello Games for fixing No Man's Sky(and I am sure other developers have done the same too before), but I do believe they popularize that zeitgeist in "sell it now, fix it later".
@Rafroo
@Rafroo 11 месяцев назад
Having played NMS at launch and actually enjoyed it quite a bit but also having followed the drama, I feel like Hello Games' situation was probably because of the publisher. Regardless, I agree that the push to digital feels like it allows devs/publishers to sell a game without "going gold" and easily get away with paid early access of an unplayable game. ie : Release a game 3 months early in early access and still make people pay full price but the game only being fully playable or finished (content-wise) 3 months later.
@KreuzDrache
@KreuzDrache 11 месяцев назад
@@Rafroo While that is fair and quite possibly accurate to say it was more of the faut of the publishers, it does not change the fact that NMS's turn-around "inspired" others to do the same along with the trend of digital updates being "required" to fix the base game. That was the crux of my post. I do not think it's that far off to claim that game is a big reason why we're in this mess of unfinished product in the first place. I am pretty confident that Todd Howard himself justified Fallout 76 development by directly referencing NMS even. If I ever do find that article, I will definitely edit this.
