Love how your bringing attention to this Jim. I rescued a staffie a few months ago & it was the best decision I've ever made. I wish I'd have recorded him in the kennels though as he was a completely different dog (barking like mad, pacing etc). Kennel stress can deter potential owners which is so sad....

I’ve never gotten a rescue dog but I’ve gotten plenty of rescue cats and they’re always the best most loving cats ever. I highly recommend adopting from a shelter- you’ll find a friend for life

I love battersea so much! Paul ogradys show opened my eyes completely that recuse dogs aren't always high maintenance and most of the time just lovely doggies who need a home!

Love the work they do at Battersea dog and cats home, it makes such a difference because it's heartbreaking to see dogs without an owner, unwanted or injured :(

Love that you use your platform to talk about rescuing pets instead of "buying" them. I got a Maine Coon cat from a breeder myself and even though I love him to bits, I would never ever buy a pet from a breeder again, because I realised just how many pets are already waiting for a loving home - in the future, I will always rescue.

I think it's so great that you are promoting adopting dogs from rehoming centres and also that you are really thinking through the decision to get another dog. I work at a rehoming centre and see how dogs can end up homeless through no fault of their own because people don't think about whether a dog would fit into their lifestyle and then just give them up when they realise they don't have the time for them!

My partner and I foster dogs for a local rescue organization and so far, we've had all amazing animals. Some of them did require a little bit more patience to get them out of their shell or a longer-term recovery for a surgery, but those dogs are the by far more rewarding than any puppy I've had. Sometimes it's absolutely disheartening because you see the small dogs and puppies go right away while the larger bully breeds stick around for months-even though all of our bullies have been the most amazing dogs ever. It's not just the healthy puppies who are worthy of a home. :) Our current foster is literally the best. She was a momma pit bull who needed hip surgery when we got her. Now, she's healing up and such a sweetheart. Some friends of ours already want to adopt her and she's not even ready for a home yet. Seeing RU-vidrs buying dogs was always disheartening to me, since I know the kind of issues that buying dogs perpetuates. It also leads to specific breeds into being more popular, almost a fad, and then those popular dog breeds wind up being the ones in rescue. (I can't tell you how many more pugs have come up for a foster...) It would be really lovely to see influencers do some good, set an example, and make rescue dogs popular.

I got my last dog from a rescue centre. He was only 2 years old and had been back there 3 times. Previous owners complained he was too energetic and one said their son was allergic. The energetic excuse is pathetic because he was a border collie puppy..of course they are energetic. I always encourage people to get a rescue pet. There is so many waiting for a home.

If you get another dog you should rescue one from a shelter/rescue and make sure whatever you do, you have a meet and greet between Martha and the potential dog to make sure they like each other before bringing it home.

You're right about Vitamin D being very important to good health! I'm sure you know this, but your viewers might not know that Vit D is a "fat soluble vitamin." I have a 11 year old lab. She's the sweetest dog and I found her while I was having a run in my neighborhood. Then I had a puppy that was given to us but unfortunately she dug a hole through our yard and was ran over. And could not be saved. But I'm looking into adoption again
