Hey, y'all! I need to address two mistakes I made when making this video. While cows still have gestation cycles, you no longer need to breed them to get milk. They will only produce less milk as time goes on without a drop in quality. Also, there is one more thing you need to do to get the horse, and that is to send Takakura to the city to buy something. If he never goes to the city, he never has the opportunity to come back with a horse. Hope you guys can forgive these two little slip ups! Keep in mind, the game is still pretty new in it's lifecycle so there are things being discovered left, right and center. I will probably still make mistakes in reporting as more and more is revealed about the behind the scenes mechanics going on. I will always encourage people to call me out on these mistakes, so please leave a comment if I messed up or missed something! Thanks! Also, Special shout out to @Elithegaymer and @The_RealH3R0! I used some of their footage since I haven't been able to get the Cooking Minigame, Horse, or see the 4 special flowers just yet! Go check out their channels linked in the description!
I’m not 100% sure on this, but I was constantly buying products and selling chickens (to send Takakura into town) in an attempt to get the horse. However, I never got the horse until I sold milk/eggs/produce in the box. Once I did, I got the horse in less than two days. I normally only ever sold my farm products to Van, so I believe that’s why I didn’t get the horse at first. Just in case anyone is struggling to get the horse, try selling things via the box in front of the barn :)
@@kathrynmercier4874 I did some testing recently, and I was able to get the horse on the first day of summer by placing an order for 1 fodder the evening of Spring 10 without selling any products through the shipping bin.
Can confirm, I have one of each cow and haven't had to breed any of them to get milk. If they refuse to give milk, sometimes that's just because they haven't eaten yet.
@@YamiNoDaisuke there was one goat in the original that could not be bred, unsure if the same goes for the remake as I don’t have the game yet. For the original, I watched let’s play videos
Another tip: although you get the option to get it early on in the game, don't buy the Seed Maker! Opt instead to cozy up to Daryl, the mad scientist. He may seem odd but he's a friend worth having because once you become friends with him and enter his house while he's home he will gift you the Seed Maker, free of charge, saving you 10,000G. The Seed Maker is very handy because every fruit/vegetable you put into it, it gives you two seeds back. You can basically double the amount of crops this way!
The Harvest Sprites in Japanese are actually called Korpokkur (コロポックル), which are a mythological race from the folklore of the Ainu, the indigenous people of Hokkaido! They are a race of small humanoids who live in nature, and their name translates to “people under the leaves of the butterbur plant.” If you’re a Zelda fan, you might have heard of the Minish, who are also based off Korpokkur. Anyways, I hope that answers your question as to what the Harvest Sprites are supposed to be.
It does! Thanks so much for this lore! I guess I really do look through these things through a Western lense, I didn't even think about Japanese folklore/mythology when trying to pin down characters like the sprites or MukuMuku.
I just miss my boy Murrey ;-; I was really hoping for a homeless to home owner storyline for my boi but at least he took a bath and is doing self-care now under his new name now
Special shout out to @Elithegaymer and @The_RealH3R0! I used some of their footage since I haven't been able to get the Cooking Minigame, Horse, or see the 4 special flowers just yet! Go check out their channels linked in the description!
Sheep are by far the most profitable animal in this game. Even the pricey star cow only nets you just over 8k per season in milk. A sheep with high affection gives golden wool twice per season, selling for 6k each! Combine that with the dirt cheap price of 3k a head, and the ease of care, sheep are clearly the winners here. I personally bought one of each cow for cooking ingredients, then filled the rest of my expanded barn with 11 sheep😊
I have not seen a Julian Smith "I made this for you" reference in SO LONG, my jaw literally dropped seeing it. Holy shit that made my day. (also quality video, 10/10, thank u for the tips)
LOL! When I was writing the script for this video, for whatever reason, I thought I made this for you was a meme I saw recently. After some searching, I came to the realization it was a very deeply seeded reference to legacy RU-vid that was hidden in my subconscious. Thanks so much for watching and I'm glad someone else has seen one of the best RU-vid videos of all time!
Honestly, my first playthrough of HM:AWL was riddled with not so great decisions. Now, I'm very into exploring everywhere and everything, so these tips are SUPER helpful for me to pay attention to! Keep enjoying the game! And thank you again for the video!
Thanks so much for watching! AWL is one of the games that hinges on the players urge to explore and discover, so hopefully your new playthrough has some more twists and turns lol
Thank you for this!!! I never had the pleasure of playing the original (I grew up with Mineral Town 🥰). I bought this game last night - very excited to experience the game myself for the first time!
Spoilers about hybrid crops, flowers and the Seed Maker: The seeds grown from hybridezed Happy Lamps wont be able to be grown again in all seasons if they are put in the Seed Maker. You will have to use another Happy Lamp to make sure the seeds are able to be used in all seasons.
That's great to know! That's how it was in the original so it's interesting that they decided to keep it that way. I wouldn't have been surprised if they introduced something like Plant DNA or something like that which allowed modified crops to keep those traits.
I haven’t played the original in a good while, but I’m very pleased with this remake! Thank you for these tips because I’m definitely a little rusty with AWL right now. 😂
I'm SO GLAD I'm not the only one refusing the new Forget me not valley name 😂 I spent my first year n a half with the cow knowledge from the past and was flabbergasted when a calf grew up to give milk xD
Honestly, I don't like that they omitted some of the more realistic features lol. It's definitely a more user friendly game now, but the fact that animals don't die and that you just get milk when cows grow up is disappointing for me lol
@@JackDuckGoose it IS a shame tbh, I agree. They could've added two modes for this (like in PoOT) one that is more user friendly and one that's like the og.
@@Sixalaa That would be pretty cool. A Pro mode that doesn't allow you to enable the stamina bar and introduces death and what not would be awesome lol
Thanks so much! I'm just happy that there are more and more people getting to experience A Wonderful Life, Harvest Moon, and Story of Seasons! The community has been so friendly and inclusive I feel bad for people who aren't involved in it lol
@@JackDuckGoose I’ve been a fan of Harvest Moon since I was 7 and played the original A Wonderful Life. Love to see the community and games still thriving!
I like this, i hope to see more of this kind of content from u. This is the first video I’ve seen from this channel and i like it, uve earned a subscribe
here is something you REALLY should know: Give 1 Coin & 2 Fish to Daryl the minute you get the rod. (this was mentioned, but i am stressing this). he should be your #1 priority. you should be able to get his gift from him by spring 8. 2: GIVE HUGH MILKY SOUP EVERY DAY. yes you will lose money - but if you want to have max affection with everyone, it the easiest way to get him done before the first year. he should be priority #2. 3: your first major purchase (after sheep) should be the Star Bull. you should have enough money by summer 3. (focus on some watermelons to make this work, but your chickens & sheep should help along w/help from digging). you should be able to breed your starting cow with your star bull summer 8. - this gives you a strong chance of having a FREE star cow girl vs spending 50K on one (then breed that bull to the star girl for a 100 percent chance for a second star cow). then sell the bull. :) regardless of what any Year Crop One guide tells you. Plant 6 trees spring 1. (you will have enough gold to do this and get your chicken + feed). do invest in watermelon but keep some back. in fall - invest in as much sweet potatoes as you possibly can. you will thank me later. lol
I wouldn't sell the star bull unless you're planning to never breed your cows ever again. If you're breeding them for milk production (and thus going to eventually sell the babies because you need room to cycle them), save scumming the birth event for a female star calf nets you 25k a baby. With ANY of the 4 types of cows. Star Bull is the best breeding choice in the game.
@@Raina111111 well really, you only need 1 or 2 star cows you could do more obviously, but i find sheep are less work LOL). I figure 1 Normal Cow 2 Star Hefiers 1 Marble (for cheee) 1 Brown (for milk) is more than enough. I don't really feel that breeding a cow and losing milk for 7ish days, (and also hoping that your bull doesn't make EVERYONE pregnant naturally - which is what happened with my ram & ewes) and potentially causing other problems.). but yeah if you want to get into breeeding/selling off the babies, then keeping the bull is worth.
I also want to amend this by saying. try to make sure you have the fertilizer maker by the end of summer. you will have at least 4 out of the 6 base crops in the game S rank by the end of the year
I'm glad you mentioned the forgotten valley change. I thought I was going crazy and had convinced myself it had always been Forgotten Valley and had just read it wrong as a child. I know better now.
@@pixality7902 Lol that's a fair comment, it is kinda weird with the names. The one that bothers me the most would have to be Griffin. He just looks so like a guy names griffin that calling him Gavin feels wrong
I completely ignored sheep until almost fall because i was saving for a good cow, I remembered them being my main money makers back in the day, but sheep on the new version are OP xD
Its been so many years since I played this on the Gamecube and I was thinking "what was that 3rd minigame again?" and after about 5 minutes of trying to remember I got really sad... I definitely remember it...
This is true in the original as well! I'll probably keep my Trick Blues for Hybridizing since I'll probably have her at full affection by the end of summer
@JackDuckGoose one thing has caught me off guard, though. Last I checked, she moves out if you don't marry her. At the end if chapter 1, you get the cutscene if her walking away, but she's still there? Maybe they changed jt?
It is back, but my experience is that it's a little more difficult. I haven't yet been able to test if being friends with him increases the odds of success, but it will definitely take more time than the previous games to get a successful profit increase lol
OKAY IM SURE IM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THOUGHT ABOUT IT BUT I ALSO NAMED MY HORSE EPONA LMAO . I also named one of my sheep Bepis in remembrance of your OG AWL replay :D
The funny thing is, I haven't even got to that point yet. I borrowed some footage from @The_RealH3R0, shout out to him by the way. Thanks so much for watching and it's an honor to have a Bepis in your save!
- I took a bit to buy sheep because I didn't realize their worst quality wool sold for 3,000 g, meaning they pay for themselves instantly as soon as they grow big enough to sheer. That, and by the 3rd sheer, my sheep doesn't give me anything but gold wool. 6,000G to Van every time he comes. (I got lucky and timed my sheep to his visits lol) - I find it's better to buy BULLS and play the long game when I want a new cow type. As in, only have normal cow? Buy a brown bull, wait for him to grow up, then breed with your cow. Then, once it's birth time, save scum the birth event for a female brown calf. (you don't have to save the night before or anything. Cow type and gender is decided during the event itself. It's born at an exact time, so it can be save scummed quickly if you're unlucky with the roll but watched the clock) Sell the bull. This method: 1) Gives you a free miracle potion 2) resets the mother cow's milk production for bonus milk 3) Instead of paying 20,000 for a brown cow, you have now paid 5,000 for one, because brown bulls are 10,000 and you get half that back when you sell the father. Rinse and Repeat for all cow types. (Marble is the same price as Brown) However, once you buy a star bull, KEEP HIM. Female star calves sell for 25,000 g. So if you're breeding to up a cow's milk production, you can save scum for a female star calf no matter what Mama is. You don't even half to wait for the calf to grow or give it mother's milk. Sells for 25k the instant it is born. Star Bull is going to be your defacto breeder for the rest of the game as soon as you manage to afford him. (also good for encyclopedia completionism) - The Herbal Soup trick also works with fish. Once you unlock Hervs'd'vore (or whatever it's called), you can use a fish to make sashimi, increasing the amount of people who will now accept your fish. - The Valley exit on the map will show you people who aren't currently in the valley (so you'll see Van's picture there like 90% of the time). Most people don't leave, but I know Grant and Chris' husband do sometimes.
These are all amazing tips! I especially like the one about the Bull. I probably won't go with that method since I don't like to save scum, but I know a lot of people will find value in that lol
this video is just making me wish i had one of the new consoles to play this version!!!!!!!!! it looks so good and honestly i was kind of skeptical at the start because of the renames and some redesigns, but this genuinely makes me so happy and exicted about all the new stuff!!!!! time to play the original for the 50th time!!!!
I feel you. When the trailers were showing up and the game was announced, my nostalgia induced euphoria was taken aback by the art design, but after playing it, I don't mind too much. I actually think it fits pretty well and differentiates the experience of playing the original and this version!
I'd definitely like an update on how the hybridizing works in this game with the new flowers, I did follow the original 100 days stream but I'm a bit rusty cuz I've never done it legitimately. Always just abused the 99 items glitch lol
The sprites are as the name says, sprites. Sprites are a type of fae folk RELATED to elves however they are NOT elves. xD Brownies are another related creature alongside the bog standard fairy. But they all look fairly similar to each other but are all different.
Thanks so much for this video Jack! I haven't had much time to play, so I was wondering what had changed and what was still the same. Good thing I didn't make it too far in, cause it looks like I have some setting up to do. My Banana empire will be GLORIOUS!
My recommendation for early player who want to get financial freedom in this game. In your first day yo have 2400 g. Don't spend all to buy seeds. Use only 100 g for seeds like potato or strawberry (coz they can only be regrown in fall & winter). You already have 5 tomato seeds first and you can trade milk soup in bulletin board to cody (the artist guy) for 5 watermelon seeds, sell all your milk 7 in total so you get 3000 g in 2nd and do these : 1. Buy 1 sheep for 3000 g 2. From day 1 go to exvacation site and dig for GOLD FORK which can be sell to vaan for 1000 g each (do it everyday) you can abuse the save journal before digging. Get one go out, save again, go again and get 2-3 per days. If you relly want it 3. In 2nd day don't sell your milk, cook all to milk soup and sell to vaan in 3rd day 3. In 3rd day when vaan come sell your milk soup (12 total) and golden fork (2 at least). Use all your money to buy summer tree (banana, peach, orange) esp banana since it makes profit more and fill yours least fertile land with it (15 tree in total) and 5 in moderate fertile land optionally 4. Buy fishing road asap and fish and give 2 fish daily to daryl for seed maker 5. Don't buy brush early if you don't have much money. Though useful for you animals, it doesn't contribute much. You can use your money to buy more sheeps or tree seeds
@@JackDuckGoose yup and you need to abuse save in the night and sleep to get rainy weather and luck horoscope to amazing (effect in your luck in diging in exvacation site or fishing)
One thing I wish I knew was that events for marriage candidates get locked once you see the 9 heart event for a candidate and choose the more romantic option. (Slight spoilers ahead) In Muffy's she's having a bad day and one of the options is "Let's date!" I thought it would be more like "Let's go out on a date!" and not "Let's go steady!". I feel bad accepting it knowing I probably won't marry her in the end, and of course also because so many other events got locked after.
Shoot, that's a great point I should've included lol. Maybe in another video. That mechanic was present in the original and it ruined one of my saves where I was trying to see all the heart events. I didn't include it since I haven't gotten to that point yet and I assumed they removed it to make the game more user-friendly like they have with others lol
8:10 notice it says "more milk". Unlike the original, you don't need to breed a cow to get milk. A newly purchased cow that never had a baby b4 will automatically produce milk, and they never stop either.
You're 100% correct. Cows never dry up, unfortunately. They never outright said, "Cows stop giving milk" but they put so much effort into explaining pregnancy and how it affects the cow that I assumed the mechanic returned. I'm glad everyone already called me out on it lol. Don't want to peddle misinformation
Ive never played this game before so i had no idea there were 2 other mini games besides the territory war, thanks for the tip. I played it once, lost, and never wanted to play it again but now i'll try it again based on that strategy lol wish i would've gotten my sheep sooner.
Good luck! Territory capture takes some learning, but it is fairly easy once you get the hang of it. I haven't been able to do the cooking one yet, but there are more possibilities to do it the further you get in the game. The third mini-game I didn't show any footage of because of spoilers is also easy but the reward isn't too great lol
It might just be me but I feel like it's a pity that Flora the archeologist isn't one of the Bachelorette options :s I believe she was a candidate in a previous game if I'm not mistaken?
As the other commenter mentioned, she was a candidate in HM DS, and I am also irreconcilably upset that she wasn't included as a bachelorette option. I really wanted them to add her and Daryl lol
they are literally sprites. sprites. A sprite is a spirit, a mythical, fairy-like creature who lives by the water. Sprites are supernatural and sometimes tricksy.
Yeah, they really nerfed it into the ground. I've heard rumors that you can play against Cole in Chapter 3 and that its more difficult, but I can't confirm that yet lol
Thanks for watching! Just a quick update; cows never run out of milk, breeding them just gives them a boost in quantity after they give birth. Also, to get the Horse as soon as possible, order some fodder the evening of Spring 10 to force Takakura to go into the town on Summer 1. He *should* come back with a horse lol
The Natsume and Marvelous split is such an interesting footnote in gaming history. If something like this happened at a larger scale, say with a Legend of Zelda title, that's all anyone would talk about for years lol
You must be reading a guide from an old game, because there is no potion for breeding. Also it says (and you showed the text) for 20 days of extra milk.
I was definitely basing that point off previous knowledge. Since they never mentioned outright that your cow never dries up, and they spent so much effort in explaining why and how to breed your animals, I wrongly assumed that the mechanic was still present. I've made a comment and community post addressing that since I don't want to peddle misinformation.
I almost cried when it was announced lol. But I'm a man, and menonly cry on the birth of their children and when their football team wins the big game 💪🏻
Yeah, I realized that like 30 minutes after I uploaded lol. I wrongly assumed since they harped so much on pregnancy and didn't outright say that your cows dried up that the mechanic was still present. I've made a community post and comments to echo that since I don't want to just sit here and peddle fiction as fact.
@@JackDuckGoose it's all good. There's a lot of little things like that which have been changed and not talked about. Takakura even says that she gave birth 10 days prior so she should have milk to provide. That can be misleading.
I also heard that you have to send Takakura to the city. If he never goes there, he can never come back with the horse, so just order some fodder and see if that does the trick.
They changed a lot of things that are, in my opinion, inconsequential. Like the name of the town, some characters, and some locations, but it doesn't affect the narrative or how I feel about the game. It's just a new flavor of A Wonderful Life
Turn your normal milk into milk soup right at the start of the game it sells for more as long as it is not S class and it will help you increase your cooking skills!!!!!! Also the dog will not leave your farm unless you take it off your farm
yeah I made a mistake when researching for this video. Cows never run out of milk, they just produce more milk for a couple days after they give birth lol
Fellow players, do you guys have any go to easy recipes for restoring stamina? The café is the only place to eat right? Oh btw I hope you make more guides for us so I'm subscribing. While going in blind can be fun since i didn't play the original there's stuff i feel I'm missing out on or don't get. Some unsolicited ideas for guides you didn't ask for include: 1.How to upgrade tools 2.Early game recipes for stamina and which to sell. 3.Crop Guides (what has more profit and how to make hybrid crops. 4.Cooking guide 5.Mining guide please. I don't know if im doing it wrong or just unlucky but I've gotten one thing. How many times do i dig in one spot? 😮
For stamina regen, I recommend sashimi, you have to make a bunch of recipes to get the Hors devours option, and then you just put one fish in the ingredients. I feel like a cooking guide would be pretty valuable. But for mining, there are some spots where you can see stuff poking out of the soil when you first come in. Those spots are the easy to get items. You can go around to all the other spots and dig multiple times until you find more items poking out. I've heard that you can just dig in the same spot forever and you'll still get a fair amount of items lol
From what i've heard, your cow never stops giving milk. it just gives you MORE for the 20 days after mothers milk, so you never run out but it has a temporary boost. i just got the game and i'm doing my own play through so i'll give this a test and see if its true or not. it absolutely was in the original but i think they might have changed it unfortunately :/ honestly i preferred the realism of the originals.
Yeah, you're 100% right. I incorrectly assumed that the mechanic returned since they really harp on pregnancy and how it affects milk in the guides. I agree, I really liked the realistic mechanics of the old game and am kinda sad to see they didn't come back lol
@@JackDuckGoose im glad this remake fix the prices, because in old game the problem is getting money is hard and yet the facilities prices is expensive, its almost imposible if you dont do ruby spice bug
@@gunawanputera6443 True! The prices also add to the longevity of the game, imo. I think a lot of players will go past year 3 as opposed to stopping since there is so much more to do now
You are correct, that’s one mistake that I made. I assumed that, since they really harped on pregnancy and they didn’t outright say that animals will always give you milk, that the breeding mechanic returned from the original game. I made sure to address that in my pinned comment.
I would just like to say that the Cow milking for pregnancy tip is false, that was ONLY for the original games and the special edition. This remake doesn't have that feature. Cows will produce MORE milk for 20 days after 3 days of mothers milk but will then go on to produce the normal amount of milk for the season. If you don't get your cows preggers then nothing happens they will always produce milk and only change the amount depending on the season like normal regardless of how many days pass.
I've made a comment and community post to echo this. I inappropriately assumed that because they made such a big deal about telling you how pregnancy works, how to use mothers milk, and that pregnancy has an effect on cows, that the mechanic from the old games was still present. They never outright said that it wasn't, so I'll own that mistake. Thanks for your comment! It sounds passive-aggressive through text, but I really appreciate you and other commenters mentioning it. The last thing I would want to do is peddle misinformation.
Dude! You’re making me want to play this game! I never played the original, but I’ve liked all the games they’ve come out with so far. Except the last one was so-so. Too much emphasis on makers.
Thanks! You should give it a try if possible. Compared to a lot of modern farming games, AWL is pretty stripped down and focuses on farming, ranching, and the world around it. The perfect relaxation game imo
The best thing about the game is that you can spend your time in Forget-Me-Not Valley any way you want to. I don't think anyone "needs" to get a whole bunch of animals or make a lot of money. I find the atmosphere and the narrative are enough for me lol
Also in the remake you don't need to breed a cow to get milk! They just produce one extra milk after they give birth! The original game you needed to breed to make milk!
Yeahhhhh lol that's one mistake I'm not proud of in this video. I thought that since they really harped on animal pregnancy and didn't outright say your animal would keep producing milk, I thought that they kept that mechanic in the remake. But, I still feel like its worth while since your cow will produce less milk as you progress without breeding them
Fun fact that I missed when making this video is that the your first cow will never stop making milk. Getting her pregnant and having calves just gives you more milk for a short period after she gives birth. But to more accurately answer your question, yes; buying a male cow and breeding them for free will continue to give you more milk and new calfs up to your barns limit, which is 8 stalls when you start the game, but can be expanded up to 16.
I wont get to up-in-arms about them since I can understand why they changed them, but I'm right with you. I tend to just use the original names subconsciously. Hoping some PC mods come out to change them back lol
I’m thinking about starting a new file to go back and do all the things right this time around 😂 I feel like I didn’t utilize my first year nearly enough
By the end of year 1 I got 2 new cows, a brown and a marble, copper tools, all current outfits from van and 7 chickens...am I winning? Oh and my starter cow is preggo
@@MaoTao-mq1yf it doesn't even need to be on several days... you can befriend him in 1 day if you keep talking to him... eventually he will offer the ability to hybridize your seeds... just keep in mind unlike all the other villagers his friendship actually decays over time so you will have to chat with him again the next time you want to use him.
I definitely will! Hybrid Crops are a super confusing mechanic even after you befriend him, so I can understand how it may be difficult to new players lol
