It's worth pointing out that this song is originally French, written by Charles Trenet. The French lyrics are somewhat more nostalgic than the darker English lyrics. This is unusual as it's usually the opposite I find.
- That is so true! For example, the song known in English as “My Way.” It’s a re-make of the French song “Comme d’habitude,” which is searingly poignant and MUCH darker. The original is about an unhappy couple who are resigned to go through the motions of daily life in a loveless marriage out of habit. Quite a different mood from the typically American bombast and narcissism of My Way.
