Just observer art shouldn't cause that much lag. Especially if it's not in loaded chunks. Hermit craft is on vanilla though for some reason.

idk, it's mainly made of observers. I would say the sheer amount of mobs are the cause

I am 2 seasons late, but its a combination of Entities, Observers, and redstone/block updates. Especially the diamond trees and Iskall's Hallo sign since even though they wiped out the mobs after the turf war, a small amount of lag remains.

I saw that sheep idea on the Hermitcraft reddit and thought, "Nope, that'll cause a ton of lag with the shear number of entities needed).

The lag is caused by light updates, so it would probably be ok if you covered the redstone lamps on one side and put torches on the other

It's so weird that a single flashing sign can lag the server so much. I understand its a big server but...it's just lights.

@William Ziemkowski I remember downloading one of the Hermitcraft modded worlds (1.7.10 I think) where X's base was near spawn and had this fish farm with thousands of entities that overflowed. The lag got really bad when those chunks were loaded...

Was watching some old OOGE episodes the other day and they where lagging like crazy, so he knows. But now they're rich and have great computers and better hosting and a more demanding audience. Seriously, some people these days will claim they're getting epilepsy from anything below 60fps.

Oftentimes recordings will show smooth performance, where in realtime your frames are awful.

I have to deal with way more lag on a regular basis! While on Hermitcraft: IT'S SO LAGGY! (seriously though I didn't notice it getting laggy)

I actually tried Grian's experiment with the sheep. Except I had about 8 thousand of them. I had about a frame every two minutes. It didn't help that I accidentally used jeb sheep. On the upside, though, I had a real nice mycelium biome afterwards.

@@mellowdie-deranged Did I mention that I was also using shaders and a 128x texture pack? As for the secret, just run it through a crappy little mac laptop. They have such a tiny amount of base processing that they just don't know how to crash when you add more load on.

Pros: Can plant saplings.(mycelium cant) Can plant mushrooms.(grass cant) Can work alongside dirt without covering it.(neither opponent can.) Cons: Looks like...yknow. a lot of animals, they had to do their "business" somewhere.
