I bought the e550 from Randy. Very happy with the car. I have since added Apple Carplay and fixed the air scarf system. Everything now works on the car. Drove it 800 mile shome to Alabama. Randy if you are ever in south Alabama please hit me up!
The engine in that S-4 sounds great! With 160K don’t you think if the tensioners or chain were bad they’d be making some kind of noise by now? I wouldn’t be too troubled about them although I probably wouldn’t red-line it too often. The oil looked pretty clean, so it probably had frequent oil changes which is the best way to avoid internal engine wear and subsequent problems. I think it’s another AAR Home Run! You’ve got some damn fine luck and you deserve it. When you talk about what your life was like growing up I feel like I’m “listening to a mirror “, so to speak. Your videos bring me a great deal of joy and I thank you for that. I’m older than you and my health is becoming reminiscent of what you described your late uncle’s was like, so the joy from your videos is especially meaningful to me. Peace my friend, DrRick
Just due to the fact that the S4 is a manual, $4600 is a no brainer! I would've hesitated paying $4600 if it was an automatic with similar mileage. I think you found a rare duck! I hope the same thing goes for your recent purchases! As for the Kia, I'm super happy there is a happy ending to that months-long story!!!!! YAY!
OMG! And kudos to you, Randy! What are the incredible variety you having this collection! SSR, The 40 Chevy, The Audis you just bought Mercedes BMW holy smokes! Absolutely love your passion and enthusiasm! You’re absolutely the number one go to automotive channel in my opinion! There’s one channel that has over 5 million subscribers, and this guy waves his arms around his cameras, jerking up and down and not focusing in the continent can’t even begin to compare to what you have! I don’t get it! You should have 10 million Subscribers! Hopefully you’ll go over 380,000 real soon! Thanks for sharing you’re the best!
the hood problem is identical to one that was repaired on a similar Audi on high peaks autos channel in England its caused because the rear window has dropped slightly, Love your videos
When those Audis run right they are great! When they don't....well, you know. Fortunately right now you are on the right side of it, and I know you are happy about it, so that's all that matters. Congrats Man. I know you will have fun with it. Can't wait for future SSR videos!
With a bit of cleaning and as he say he can make a good profit on S4 is still a cool car V8 +manual and quattro i would daily that car over-here in Europe..
That Audi is a fine keeper provided that you get it back to factory quality paint, and get the hood repaired. And make the old cop car your next total renovation project (please)
This S4 is from the best era of Audi imo those things were built like tanks. My sister has a 06 A4 avant bought new and the build quality is just incredible.
There probably started it up for the first time in ages and heard the chains slap as the engine adjust it self it goes away after a few moments What a motor tho 🤩 Get the straight pipes on it 😂 Keep up the good work 👍
Specs 2008 s4/4.2 v8Horsepower: 340 hp Engine: 4.2 L V8 Curb weight: 3,869 to 4,266 lbs MPG: Up to 15 city / 23 highway 0-60 mph: 5.4 to 5.8 seconds Bore: 3.3″
It's nice. Life is actually a class,if you pass your test you move to the ext class. But if you failed you correct yourself and come for another test. Basically it makes you learn more. Bro never give up!!!!!!
4 and a half grand is a steal! A friend of mine had an A4 convertible of that generation, it had never-ending electrical issues until he got rid of it, but yours looks much better maintained, and I hope you're able to have some fun with it!
Man that Audi is a steal and it is absolutely gorgeous! I am loving this unique gem of a car, plus auctions are awesome I just recently won a running and driving 1994 Oldsmobile Bravada for $500 and Its now my daily, Thanks to this channel I knew what to watch out for as well.
acv isnt that a dealer auction only. so thats why you got it cheap. if i saw this at an actual auction itd probably sell for 8k+. side note your energy is contagious and is why i love watching your videos
Hi Randy, as someone told you in the Q5 video, English youtuber High Peak Auto released a video about his A4 convertible a few days ago that had the same roof issue as you. The problem comes from the rear window sagging and jamming the mechanism. It is easily solved by restitching the upper part of the rear window to the fabric
Wow I love it I got a very rare 2007 A4 Sports Special b7/8H Cabriolet with a big single turbo V6 TDI it has been in the family since around 2009 and has around 340.000 Km and still is in Perfect condition
I owned an Audi with this engine. Not this model though. Very fast and smooth. The absolute worst nightmare ever to fix anything. They put chips in the tail lights and they fail. It was $1560 to fix two tail lights with salvage parts. Would have been $3100 via the dealer. They ran the timing chains on the back of the engine and the guides fail. The intake manifold is "active" and the servos can fail. $7000 for the replacement manifold from the dealer or you can roll the dice on salvage parts. I just rented an Audi on a trip and absolutely loved driving it. I'll never own another one again, however.
Hi Randy, I love your channel and your adventures. I live in Sydney Australia and purchased this same model A4 back 2015 for my Son - (except Auto) Everything you have shown with your purchase and drive of the AUDI is correct - they drive amazingly and love highways. When I often drove it, my biggest fear was losing my Drivers License. When I saw you first trying the opening the hood I wanted to yell out give it a gentle push and it will open. These roofs are sooooooooooo complicated. They are not cable , but , a maze of hydraulics not for the faint hearted. Quick tip...if you do get stuck with roof jammed midway there is a key in the drivers door fuse box which will enable you to manually lock the roof in either closed or open position to get home. The parts for these cars are expensive and difficult to obtain. (Mostly from Overseas) The specialist mechanics who know these cars are also difficult to locate. These cars have and Interference Engine - so you need to ensure your timing chain/belt is Spot on! How our beautiful Convertible wet to Heaven was the Sydney Australia weather last year where we had one Months rain in one day. What I had know Idea of was, so many computers & electrical system computers are in the floor of this car and the fabric (not vinyl ) roof and it rained inside the car and destroyed many of the key functional computers. Insurance wrote it off as flood car. Lastly, please be aware, almost any engine and cooling system work on an A4 requires the removal of the front bumper and grill of the car. The Bose Sound System is amazing and you will find the majority of electronics when it plays up plays up built into the boot lid as the wires break from open & close of the boot. Thanks again for your video. Pete
I love your enthusiasm for your passion I am the same I have had so many different cars and bikes over the years every new one is a totally different experience keep doing what you do Randy you are right when you love doing something it is more than just a job
I think it was a good find! Audi just like any German made cars are like, either you get one with issues from the start, or you might be lucky and get one that has it's age, but it's working fine. You got the good one. Keep the videos coming! I am a relatively new subscriber, but I am religiously watching your videos every time I see a new upload.
Repair shops here in Europe have a way now to change timing chains on most of the modern engines that have chain on the back without taking the engine out. Still not cheap dough.
The hood looks like it was wrapped at one point, and it wasn't properly cared for.. and when they removed the wrap it left a bunch of residue behind that wasn't removed quickly and properly and baked onto the paint.. just my guess
Stumbled upon your channel due to the Audi's, I love them, had a 03 3.0L A4 Avant, have 10 Q5 3.2 S-line like yours and an A3 3.2 VR6. VW group does some cool motors and trany's
So great to see you in your zone Randy, you've paid your dues and now its your time. Ive been with you since the naughty black S600. Ive seen you give a leg up to so many people, some who absolutely deserved it (Santa, MWM etc) and the nameless who didnt... And still you go on doing right and just being a good human. Great to see you enjoying these fruity cars, the content with them has been next level. Cheers.
It's an Audi with an engine known for problems and someone thought they heard an engine noise so off it went on a red light sale? What are the chances that happened? Another time that Auto Auction Rebuilds, proprietor took a chance and won. Great video and thank you.
I’m fascinated by this project and your skills. I just discovered your channel a week ago and binge watched all the Jaguar episodes. I was a bit worried when I saw you hadn’t posted one in a while because I want to see this finished. You talk about it like your car, but I thought it was a project for someone else. I would find it hard to let this go to the owner.
You definitely scored big on this Audi S4. Back in 2019 I bought a used 2009 Audi A4 Quattro w/95K for $6500. I only kept that car for about a year as maintenance was getting expensive, and I, too, was worried about a pending timing chain failure. And I'll tell you this, all Audis water pumps tend to fail at around 80k (the original are plastic, but replacement ones are aluminum). Judging how clean the coolant looks and no signs of low coolant make me think that the water pump was probably recent replaced (a dealership charges $1.5K for this service) I think you definitely did an excellent job with this Audi, and I would enjoy for as long as you can before giving it a new home. I am long time viewer, but never commented because as you said in your video, these cars are simply interesting and I'm really curious about all these different vehicles, and enjoy watching the process of seeing them get fixed up. Keep doing your thing man! 👌
As soon as I saw the title with the *Engine Noise* i immediately got scared 😂😂. I bought myself a 05 Audi S4 with that same 4.2 V8 and lucked out with the Timing Chains being replaced and got it for a STEAL.
Randy you are on a roll! (Maybe not so much for the ex-cop car but it'll be an adventure - especially when you bought it for near scrap value). The S4 is a really great car but at it's age / mileage => it's a scary bargain at $4600 USD. I'm not in a position where I can roll the dice like you can, but I'm liking the view from here. I hope you have fun with it and can make a $ or 2 on it, and all the cars you sell. I love the SSR and will watch all your videos on it. Glad to see you are getting the Title issues behind you, and can move onto the next round of vehicle for your channel.
Audi looks pretty good happy it’s a V8 and a stick!! Good cleaning she will look great! I think you got a great deal on this one! Like how happy you are driving the Audi! Congrats Randy on selling both Benz’s and the EV! The ex police car looks like swamp vette.
I would buy the Audi S4 in a blink of an eye. 6 speed manual is so fun. I looked up in my area in Europe and found one cab with similar spec and milage. The price was about double what you payed but it was in better condition optic. By the way it is 340 HP in that V8 engine.
ALWAYS wanted me an S4 V8. I used to also love my customers whenever they dropped by with their Audis. I first encountered the 4.2L in my customers very sweet S8. He loved me for getting him through some very serious repairs including a very bad transmission whine when he first got it. Can you say service position? 😂 Well, if you can’t… then say engine out 😂 but I learned a lot about them. Still love them though.
Friend of mine had a 2009 S5 with the V8 and man was it a dream to drive but hard on the wallet. The clutch was like 2500 just for the clutch and if I remember it has a dual mass flywheel, that alone is like almost 2k lol. The car had a clutch put in it before and the previous shop used an impact on the bellhousing that has aluminum bolts in a steel housing... many broken bolts and labor later lol.
Hi in the uk them, Audi convertibles all have the same problem the glass back window drops down about an inch, which stops the full roof from opening, because it catches on it. You have to take it to an upholsterer roof shop and they can stick a bit of a patch in to hold the window up, and then the roof will work fine. It’s a common fault on them Audis specially here in the UK 🇬🇧 👌
We love cars Randy my daily is a Seat Ibiza from 1998 1.9 TDI and i love that car, also the fam car is a Opel Astra G Caravan great car for the age and the money, and i have a older one taking care when i can from 1997. Big hugh for you my friend, keep it up !
Randy you literally stole that Audi S4 Cabriolet! Man for 4600 bucks that’s a steal and never stay away from Audi they’re the underrated brand out of the German big 3 and they might be Volkswagens with a monocle but damn it they’re fun to own!
To fix your convertible roof opening, you just need to get the electric roof motor replaced. Audi will do this service for couple hundred bucks. These motors break every 4-5 years, due to being engineered too small for the heavy convertible roof. I had the same Audi A4 convertible (2009 model 2.0T) with the same problem and replacing the motor did the trick
Man you really are the inspiration to all of us who want to get as many cars as possible. Thank you for the great content! Keep it up. On my way to watch the Q5 video 😊
I think you got a pretty good deal man. Im not gonna lie ive seen you get some cars i personally wouldnt have bought but this one is pretty amazing. I love v8s in sedans. Lol so much fun
You are definitely the luckiest guy when it comes to your latest buys. I will probably get flamed for this but it would be more interesting to me if the manual is available if you could look at it for two minutes. It's just a little bad when you say "oh what is that" , because it's not like you are going to go back and tell later on what it is or does.
Love all yours Videos Mr Randy and this car is a joy love the work you do Sir, Enjoy watching all your content , Keep up the Good work Sir Good to hear all your car sold and you get your require money back and you score on this Audi , HAVE A GOOD ONE , GOD BLESS U AND UR ENTIRE FAMILY ALWAYS AMEN
Have a 2008 Passat and how your hood looks is exactly how the roof looked when the paint started to peal and fade off our Passat. Must be something the in Volkswagen/Audi paint
Whoever is diagnosing these cars is really helping you out randy !! Hahaha good for you man ! Make some money and have a blast doing it ! Sounds like a plan !
Excellent Video Randy (That’s The 4.2L V-8, 340HP/302Lb-Ft-Tq) You’re Rite Those Are Very Rare Cars, In Shape, Maintained, Audi Cabrio, S4, 6-Speed Manual.. Thank You For Doing Good Content On German Vehicles, That’s A Rare Vehicle, Worth It, As A Personal, Very Fun Car, Something Very Different, From What Everyone Else Does.. Nice Car Randy, Way To Go!!
Hey Randy, just saw a few videos about your truck. I just wanted to put out a suggestion since you go to Terre Haute Indiana a lot maybe it should be a good idea to buy a car and keep it there. That way you don’t record miles on your truck and you can have a car there to use while you’re staying in Indiana insurance will insurance on a vacation hold. That way you have a car that you can put miles on it. I just keep around the area.
............never been an Audi fan (they can be pricey to maintain) but it looks like you 'lucked out' on that one, see if the hood can be cut polished, get the grill re-chromed and re-upolster the front seats and you'll have a really nice car there........and what a beautiful top it has, the price of that ALONE is worth the price you paid for the WHOLE car.......... what a score!! Too bad it's a little on the gas heavy side but what a nice unit to take out for a Sunday drive. Congratulations, I can totally understand why you're on cloud 9. I feel the same way about cars as you do. It's in the blood, you whether have it or you don't. PS: I ain't laughing at you at all. :)
Nice S4, dont let others put you off Audis, yes there are crap ones out threre, i always have at least one Audi since 1998, and i have had plenty of them ever since, currently i have four..... two classic 80 Coupes, a A3 170Tdi Quattro, which i use for work, and my beautiful S5 Coupe 3.0 V6 Super charged....now that is a beast, even in standard form...0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds... If your ever in Germany, get to Ingolstadt to the Audi works museum, quite some fantastic cars in there from the very simple to the most exotic...
I was looking into getting one of these about 7-8 years ago when they were around 15k for a 60k example. The rear timing chain and guide issue scared me away lol. Beautiful cars though. That v8 is an awesome sounding engine.
All good for now. It has a slight chain rattle already, however, not knowing the maintenance history, I assume that chain was replaced once and its due for another soon. However if the chain is replaced and the regular maint is done then ur OK for the next 80k.
Sadly the people who could spend the money on these car don’t maintain them I do love that car. The chains won’t kill the car but when the guides go then you could have a problem
Idea. Would make Indiana and back with no issues. You and mwm check on the house, see how the a/c is doing, maybe a couple of little projects and maybe buy one at auction there and see if both would make it back to Ok. Could be some good content....
For everyone who thinks this engine has a noise. They must own a Tesla. "Muh Tesla no make dis noise." That engine sounds pretty healthy to me. The car seems like it has been long sorted out. Nice find 👌
