@@bigmikem1578 Its the original full length movie with this plot. But it's actually a rip off of a short original movie made by Showtime called "12:01". In that story the guy is repeating the sane hour, not the sane day.

Yes, that's correct, Americans adopted this German tradition. In Lithuania we also have the similar one, also with the badger. But the day is not the second of Febuary, it is 25th of January - the middle of the winter in our geographic location . When the badger wakes up that day and goes out from his burrow and if the day is sunny he is scared of his own shadow, runs back and goes to sleep, which means the winter will be long. On the other hand if the day is cloudy and gloomy and he doesn't see his shadow, he goes for a walk. And if the people see that day the footprints of the badger all over the forest, well that means he's not sleeping any more, and the winter is close to its end. We have a saying tabout the middle of the winter - the badger turns over on the other side while sleeping😁.

@@fidenemini111 Given that Lithuania converted to Christianity in 1387 but didn't adopt the Gregorian calendar until 1915, I'd be curious if maybe the date difference is actually due to the Julian calendar conversion. Early 15th century would have been 8 days of difference. Granted, the Gregorian calendar didn't exist until 1582, but it's not uncommon for cultures to backdate holidays.

Yes, but if you are just studying something because you enjoy it and are interested then it's generally advisable to use things like the internet and public libraries and such rather than paying for college. You can learn all the same information at your own pace and much cheaper.

@@AnarchyShogun college degrees aren't JUST for the thing you study, they're often for things like HOW you study, learning different ways of thinking in that sense, if you're not trying to be a doctor or study something specifically useful (like business or something), you can study whatever you want i got my degree in linguistics, but i'm an artist i enjoyed it and learned a lot, i learned how to read academic articles and how to conduct studies, how to study and describe languages, how to understand language in a way most people generally don't i needed a degree (and my family paid for it with college funds from my dad and grandpas jobs, plus i got a partial scholarship so i had no loans), and i didn't have any specific job in mind (like doctor or lawyer) so i didn't have to study a specific field but i really LOVE languages, i've studied at least 7 in school and plenty more outside that i create languages too, that's where i started before choosing to major in linguistics and i often joke that i studied linguistics as my major to make my languages better aka for my hobby just because the subject itself isn't necessairly of use, doesn't mean the process of studying it isn't either i learned a ton that's not just applicable to linguistics, learning linguistics was just the method in which i chose to learn it and made it more fun and interesting for me

what i mean is, i studied linguistics on my own time for about 2 years in high school and i learned a lot.... about linguistics but all that self study did absolutely nothing for any other skills the way going to college and studying linguistics formally did it's great if you want to study something on your own and learn just about that, but i think that's a fundamental misrepresentation of what college is for it's not JUST learning the subject, it's how you learn it, how to write papers and articles, how to think critically and logicaly if you just study linguistics on your own, even using the exact same textbooks as used in college, you'll learn linguistics - but if you get a degree in linguistics, you learn a lot more outside of linguistics itself that can be applied to so many other aspects of your life and so many other jobs

I wasn't aware that there was anywhere here in the US that it was common. I thought it was only something you'd encounter in Europe. Although I don't really travel much and have never been farther from home than neighboring states. So this is just the impression I've gotten from movies / shows.

@@MuljoStpho I thought the same as you but I can say that the NE (Jersey, NY, East Penn, etc) it was common place among friends to welcome and say good night this way. I am not even saying its wrong its just if you are not from an area where its practiced, it takes some getting used to.

@@MuljoStpho In Europe we don't kiss on the lips or on the cheek for greetings. We are doing "la bise" where we touch the one cheek with our own (some people do a smack in the air so their is a kiss sound).

I usually get up between 8am and 12pm. It varies day to day, depending on when I go to sleep. I go to sleep when I'm tired. Haven't had to use an alarm clock in decades...

Your comment about every day above ground being a good day reminds me of an expression I read a few years ago (after spending two years dealing with my late parents' estate), concerning bad weather: "Cemeteries are full of those who would love any kind of weather." After that, sometimes I would make a point of visiting the village cemetery when it was raining, because at least I was still able to. Behind every person alive there lies a hundred souls, for that is the ratio by which the dead outnumber the living.

Even sunny or cloudy doesn't mean anything. It's just a silly tradition and a reason for folks in that area to stay up all night getting drunk and standing out in the bitter cold to see a large rodent

All living species in the genus Marmota it commonly known as a Marmot, only Marmota monax is called a Groundhog plus many other names, even other members of North American Marmota are referred to as Marmots, like the Hoary marmot (Marmota caligata), the Yellow-bellied marmot (Marmota flaviventris), the Olympic marmot (Marmota olympus), the Vancouver Island marmot (Marmota vancouverensis). This is why personally i call "Groundhogs" Wuchak Marmot (Marmota monax), wuchak (woo-chak) being from native American language meaning digger, rather that the European name Groundhog aka Groundpig.

Calculations have come on as low as 10 years and as high as 10000. Fun to speculate on.
