I have a mini lop. A friend saved him at a shelter and couldn’t care for him. He hasn’t had any ear issues so far. We estimated that he is around 8 years old. He free roams in my bedroom and gets to explore the house when I am watching him. If you ever do another “reacting to subscribers habitats” video I would absolutely love to add pictures of my place!

Our dad Clinton is a Holland lop, who is 11 years old. He used to have airplane ears. They are getting a bit more loppy with age. He flipped into his outdoor playpen the other day. Clint got the rescue bunny, Nutmeg, a rex, pregnant. They had 2 babies, Snuffles, and Sunshine, who are 3 1/2 years old now. Clint has the most amazing personality, and loves to be held, and cuddled. His sister passed at 9 1/2 years old. She had the American fuzzy lop gene and developed some deafness.

Our rabbit was four years old when my family rescued her. She’s been so sweet and loving. It’s like she knows we saved her. She’s been the best bun for the past two years! I think she has a little lionhead in her based on pictures, but she’s the sweetest, prettiest white, blue-eyed bunny no matter what combination of breeds she is.
@arparso
@arparso 10 дней назад
Absolutely. I've done so many times and they are just as fun and loving and happy as any rabbit you would ever find at a pet store or from a breeder. Everyone wins here: You get a loving pet (for free or at least cheaply), the bun gets a loving owner and the shelter has more free room to take in another rescue that needs saving. Also comes with the added benefit that these rabbits are probably already spayed or neutered. And you can also often find pairs that are already bonded, in case you want to get more than just one. (prior bonding is no guarantee that here won't be issues later on in a new environment, of course, but it greatly increases the chance of a smooth transition) Only downside is, that rabbits at a shelter may have been dumped because of health issues - so there could be a higher percentage of chronically ill rabbits at the shelter, that will require some extra care by the owner. E.g. buns with chronic teeth problems or survivors of E. cuniculi with a remaining head tilt or mobility issues. It doesn't have to be this way, of course. If that scares you, ask the workers at the shelter and make sure to look for healthy buns. No shame in asking for that, especially for first time owners lacking the experience to properly care for these rabbits needing some extra care.

The only reason my family got a bunny at a pet store was because none were available to adopt. She was a pure black “dwarf” rabbit. She was 7 pounds, so dwarf is in quotes there. And no, she wasn’t overweight.

So nice of you to ask for for the least adoptable. Also, black buns are so lovely. I had one before and it loved climbing onto my shoulder. Usually, rabbits hate getting picked up, but she was almost the only bun that voluntarily got me to carry her around. I'd hold her to my chest giving a good back rub and she'd look over my shoulder and enjoy the view. 😅

I have to REW sisters that I adopted from the local House Rabbit Society. I took my lone boy bunny dating after I lost his sister to stasis. He fell in love with these 2 sisters that no one else wanted because of their color, they were 6 years old and had to be adopted together. I absolutely adore them. And my boy Nutella is thrilled with his 2 wives. The bonding went incredibly fast.

when you said mixed rabbits especially all black or all white ones get over looked it broke my heart. My baby is fully black and I love her dearly. Originally we were getting one rabbit (Oli) but we saw Celia scared and no one wanted her so we took her too. We didn't realize she was pregnant when we got her. She had 6 babies. Unfortunately 2 passed away. We are fortunate enough to be able to have a dedicated bunny room. Each bunny has an exercise pen etc. I take them individually to my room so that they can free roam. We are working on getting all of them fixed. So far mom and dad are fixed and will soon be bonded/together. We plan on keeping the entire family together because my vegan heart can't give them away. Everything that I have learned I have learned from you. Thank you so much!

I have a lionhead mix. He’s incredibly sweet and was easy to litter train right from the get go. The reason I wanted to adopt him was because his profile said that he was supposed to be used as food, ugh! I don’t know for what, but his little heart called out to me and I knew I HAD to have him! Ludwig just celebrated his first birthday with me and is super happy and healthy, so far. He is so treat motivated that I’m sure I could teach him tricks, but I just want to love on him instead of making him perform me. He’s just so smart that it blows my mind. And yes, he is cage free..has the whole upstairs to run around (my bedroom and his room/my tv room)..he’s my first bun, and I didn’t know I could fall so helplessly in love with something as perfect as he is ♥️

My boy Binky (almost 8) is a mixed breed. Adopted him when he was 1,5 years old. I have no idea what kind of "mix" is in him, but he's beautiful and don't understand why nobody wanted to adopt him before me. He's Light brown, white and has black spots all over his little snoot, the biggest Bambi eyes you've ever seen & the softest cutie nose. Despite the fact that he's an amputee (back leg), he's doing very well. Mixed rabbits have always had my preference for this very reason. They're more "sturdy" and resilient, and their personalities tend to be more mellow. 💜💜

I have two mini rex rabbits and they're both very calm with one being 6 years old now and the other being 2+ years old. Milkyway (my black and white 6 year old) is my first rabbit and he's the main reason why i fell in love with the mini rex breed! Their pelts are super soft and don't really shed all that much and boy do they have sassy personalities lol. Skyelina is the more curious and troublesome of the two as she likes to get into my trash if kept unattended, but she LOVES attention as she full on sploots the moment you touch her. They both hate their bums being touched, and love their heads being rubbed. I used to have a lionhead rabbit named Leona, but didn't have her for that long, but surprisingly she didn't shed that much. She actually had very kept fur, so I think she may have been a mixed breed. Loved her so much, it's been a year and a half without her and I still miss her very much

I chose my 2 rabbits by asking the shelter to see whoever was there the longest. One is a big goofy Californian. This breed often gets overlooked because they have red eyes. The other was a Havana, also overlooked for something beyond her control, her black fur. Many people are superstitious about animals with black fur and other don't think these animals are photogenic. Those people are missing out! Couldn't ask for more wonderful rabbits. Larger breeds may not live as long, but they are often more friendly and better suited for a family with children as they are *slightly* less delicate.

We never considered the breed when we got our rabbits. Haku was my first bunny and he prefers to be a solo pet who gets the attention lol. Sammy is a funny story. He is a mini lopped eared bunny, with sandy colors. My mom got him from a pet store while she was waiting for her girl, who is a broken black n white mini rex, aka much bigger then both Sammy and Haku(who is a mini rex with the otter coat). We were told by the store that Sammy was a girl, never bothered to check or showed us how to check. Sammy was our second bunny so we were still new. Since we thought he was a girl, he was named Sandy for her colors, and roomed her with our Bella. Welp we found out later down the line when my mom was cleaning Sammy's bottom booty and saw it sticking out. And out came two adorable boys of mixed breeds between mini lopped ears and mini rex brothers, Izzy and Oreo. We are planning on getting them fixed for sure, we have a vacation planned up soon, so my money will be focused on their vet bills, which in of itself isn't cheap nor was it easy to find the right type of vet that takes in bunnies. Main point in being, like you have said before in past videos, always do your research if your getting a rabbit or something like it.

I adopted a dwarf rabbit that has malocclusion I have to trim his teeth often'' he was 6 years old when i adopted him he is ten years old now. I also adopted a lion head rabbit she needs allot of care brushing she was treated for fleas a while ago I also found apple cider vinegar and water helps keep long haired rabbits' fur healthy and keeps fleas and mite away it does do what it says it does. I don't think I'll adopt a lion head rabbit again unless I run across one that really needs a good home.

I have a half Rex half lop boy who’s almost 4 years old. When he was a baby his ears dropped and he got a very mild ear infection less than three months old. As he grew up he got more control of his ears and they can go straight down, airplane ears, up, back, forward. Full 360 degree rotation. So he’s never gotten another ear infection because he can hold his ears up and get that air flow he needs. Other than that he’s never had any other health issues and no emergencies. He’s the sweetest, calmest bun in the world!

My two buns are both shelter rescues and both albino (I suspect they’re mostly New Zealand White, but can’t be sure), and they’re incredibly affectionate and virtually fearless around people despite their rescue backgrounds. I get so choked up too whenever I think about how overlooked they are because people don’t like their red eyes. I wish I had the resources to rescue more of them, because they have such wonderful dispositions and personalities in my experience. ❤🐇

i completely agree with your holland lop take. my bf and i rescued our holland lop from craiglist and we’d never owned a rabbit before so we went in blind. he’s so friendly and sweet but he gets sick at least once a year. he is deaf bc of his lop ears, and he gets frequent double inner ear infections bc of his ears. when he was just a year old he got a double ear infection AND e cuniculi and almost died bc of it. i love him with my whole heart but i would never seek out this breed ever again.

I have adopted two bunnies-one from each next door neighbour- they both are some lop mix- one girl and one boy. Since we live in a house, they have their own sheltered and very well protected outside space. They are spoiled rotten, and live very well balanced life- regular morning outings in the big garden- they follow me like little dogs- most endearing.Yes, we had a health issue with Basil(she, her) but luckily everything is fine,after monts of insane looking after her. I love them like kids. Adopt, don’t shop.

I have a lionhead lop (adopted) and honestly the first health problem she got was cataract last year when she was 7 years old and then only a few months ago she got her first ear infection and she is 8 years old, the vets was honestly impressed that this was the first time she ever got ear problems and we got it under control straight away, she does have slight arthritis but nothing too much as she still acts like a young healthy rabbit. And we also have a Thrianta bunny (also adopted) who is nearly 6 years old and besides nearly going into gi status once, he is also a very healthy bun too 💗💗

I had house rabbits as a kid and I'm 61 years old, so I remember them as "plain ol' rabbits") lol. I had never heard of the majority of the breeds that you hear about today. I haven't had any for the last several years, because I have a dog, and I don't want the chance of a rabbit getting hurt. But, when my dog passes, I will get another rabbit because they are SO special to me. Thank you for this video, it has helped me decide that I will definitely get one from the humane society. :)

When I started volunteering at a shelter, I just wanted a pair of chill lops I could put hats on and I was disappointed when I was asked to foster a sister pair of rex/english spot mixes found as strays instead. Now I'm so glad to have my BBs. They're healthy and lively (only 1 year old) with lots of personality--though little hats are out of the question! I look forward to keeping them and letting them take over my house.

We have a Flemish giant but he is on the smaller side weighing 4.8kg or 10.5lbs. He recently turned two years old. It’s kind of weird that he is so lean because we have both fresh grass and pellets available 24/7 and he gets plenty of snacks during the day. But he is also very active and we go outside with him almost every day where he runs around and chew and digs in the bunches and eat all the buds and flowers.

I have a rescue Angora and he is definitely extremely high maintenance and not for the weak! His condition prior to getting him was absolutely horrendous, which almost led to me rehoming him. It didn't help that he was my first rabbit and I knew nothing before getting him, however most of my savings and a couple months later he was thriving. I can't imagine not having him anymore, it's so fulfilling watching a neglected animal realise they are safe and in their forever home, I wouldn't trade him for anything

We have a white ruby eye mini rex and our all black mini rex mix bunny recently passed. They were rescued from a hoarding situation of about 100 rabbits - breeding gone wrong - and we adopted them from a rescue. Both have had health issues, white one has a chronic sneeze that she's probably had most of her life due to the horrible situation she was in. Our black bunny ended up having dental issues that showed up and she passed from a reaction to sedation for a tooth trim. She was six and her bond mate is also six. We hope to be able to find our white bun a new bunny friend through the local rabbit rescue we foster with. Ruby eye white rabbits, black rabbits, and older rabbits all tend to be overlooked in shelters. Please consider adopting them as they deserve love and care just as much as the cute babies!

I had Netherlands dwarf rabbits for more than twenty years, although my last one died a few years ago. I loved that boy, and thoughts of him still bring tears to my eyes. We never experience any of the "predictable" health issues except one. As you mentioned, dwarves are brachycephalic (their head is compact). In his twelfth and final year of life, my Goliath developed dry-eye and blocked tear ducts. I had to wash his eyes and face daily. Eventually the tears running down his face stripped the fur off his skin, which, to my shock, was red and black like a checkerboard. I still miss the little character.

My bun was a Lion/lop mix, a gorgeous set of black spots on white. He lived just short of ten years, and he was the best companion I could’ve asked for. He definitely had some regular ear cleaning, as we noticed that he was uncomfortable without it. Even in his old age, we were lucky enough to be able to treat his arthritis and when the day came, we made the decision to make it quick and kind for him. I would definitely adopt another rabbit, a pair most likely, and gosh darn it if that means a “boring” looking rabbit picks me then so be it! I’ll love that rabbit like it’s never been loved before.
