England has been rubbish in the nations league so far. Sure it's not an important for anyone. But in terms of preparation they have no right to pretend they are one of the favourites.
England made it to World Cup 2018 Semi-final, Nations League 2019 Semi-final, and European Championship 2020 Final. Better starting eleven and a better squad. Based on players on form for club I'd still say England as I can't really think of a lot of Dutch players who are on form with exception of a few players. You can't judge teams and nations based on the last 5-10 games because by that logic Arsenal are ahead of City in terms of who is favourites to win the league when it isn't even close as City will easily win the PL this year. England has to only sack Soutgate and they have a real chance of challenging for the World Cup with only France, Portugal, Brazil being the real obstacles (Spain, Germany, Argentina, Netherlands aren't on the level of those four in squad strength and Italy isn't in the World Cup).
This is what the pundits have done in the CL forever as well. I actually think if the pundits piped down a bit, less people would celebrate every England loss.
If van djk, de light and de virj are at their absolute best and de jong along with depay have an excellent run Netherlands are top favourites. Gapko and bregwin are good as well. Also timber and ake can play in mf which can be crucial when dutch do have the lead.

The Netherlands will not be one of the favorites because they have to have all there top players in amazing form to compete. Nations like Brazil, Argentina, Spain, England, Germany, France have so much more squad depth that they can cope with injury´s or players out of form.

This is the problem, everyone thinks the team with the best individual players will win. That’s never been the case with international tournaments. A solid system, coaching style and uniformity is key to going far in a tournament. That’s why Argentina are high, not because hey have the best individual players but because they have a system which has been proven in the last 2-3 years.
