Such a good reminder. I am "self taught" as in never went to art school...and it can be difficult to know "where" you are in your journey without students//teachers pointing things out ...I'm trying to focus on studying masters or artists I admire, yesterday I picked one of my favorite painters//artists Elisabeth nourse Fisher girl **of** Picardy ... I didn't want to start drawing because I knew it would disappoint me and I would be questioning if I am making progress. But I decided I would do as many versions of the painting as I could. On my 3rd today.

I just went on your channel again so I could find inspiration to get out of my art block. I draw the same things constantly (faces, bodies, nothing else) and I have no idea what else I should draw. But this video is heading me towards the right path. I now understand I am not drawing anything else because I fear the outcome, I'm afraid it'll look ridiculous (even though that's nothing to be afraid of). Thank you so much for uploading this :)

Even if it might seem like an irrational fear, it's a completely common fear to have! But the path to improvement is through practice, right? Step out of your comfort zone and see where it takes you! You might find a new favorite subject to draw beside faces and bodies, and it'll take your work to the next level😊 Good luck and thank you for watching!! ~S

It’s odd to fear drawing when drawing anything on a piece of paper is not gonna hurt you physically. It just hurts your ego.

its also entangled with a lot of other shit. If drawing is either pleasure or work, then you get into your fears of work, or guilt of pleasure. Maybe stuff from the family, from the past. It all just mingles together

That's true! Fear of drawing could also mean fear of being bad at something, fear of disappointing yourself, fear of not being able to improve, etc. But you can only get better by doing it, right? 😊 ~S

Haw! This guy holds his pencil "wrong"! Recognizing your work could be better is one thing, but fear of bad drawing is a sad state of mind. Don't be afraid! 😎
