I've always kind of thought that Jethro Tull, & Ian Anderson in particular, were the very best combination of wit, genius, & intellect, & I admit that I'm a bit of a rock snob! I still think that, for 80% of the people who claimed to " love" Tull, didn't realize how highly intelligent & talented they were!! I am proud to share my birthday with Ian Anderson, & he'd be at the top of the list of people I'd love to have a good, long conversation with. ❤🌹🌞❤

Easily one of the most intelligent and clear thinking rock and roll front men who’s ever lived…and most importantly, a monster of a songwriter.

Ian's patriotic responsibility to Scotland and Britain is really great. I don't think he gets enough credit for it either.

The singing voice was long gone by then, but he really got a great speaking voice

well not really long gone, here but definitely compromised range. Voice gone these days but he still sounds like Ian though. Whereas Dylan's voice is pure coarseness.

He's very well spoken and well read.But he does come across to me as a Beethoven or Bach rather than a modern composer.And I say that in a complimentary way,and it comes across in his music.

@2:40 Dead on accurate. I was a teenager during their songs from the wood period, but this midwestern American teenager viewed the whole band is a bunch of eccentric British weirdos who happened to be Outstanding musicians. That image sold records here in the states. But Jethro Tull did not stumble on it. They were well aware of the image they were presenting.

Yes but in North America we were called that up to the early eighties. I even bought a Firebird 400 and got a haircut but 2022 I go home will get a big hug and how you doing you old Hippie. We're the same but a wee bit different. Canada as opposed to Scotland. Thanks for sharing this.🤠👍

Ian Anderson is by no means perfect, but then none of us are. Oddly, when they did the 20th Anniversary documentary, much of his dialogue was punctuated with 'umm' and 'yknow' when being questioned about showbusiness. But here there wasn't any such thing - in fact, it was difficult to keep up with him! I also hate how 'showbusiness' is often associated with the world of rock and pop music (unless it's a form of modern musical or street dance movie, for example). Opera is in a world of its own. I see 'showbusiness' as a form of theatre, circus or pantomime, perhaps Hollywood moviemaking, or a TV series in comedy or entertainment. Documentaries are part of the Education and Information Sector. I've got nothing against showbusiness, but Ian is right to deny being in that exact industry. Perhaps they make the incorrect observation because he used to dress up in zany outfits and prance around stage, being a bit of a showman, even some of the music videos they did can be classed as a form of showbusiness. But he's clearly categorised himself as being firmly in the music industry. He's a flautist, singer, and songwriter, band leader, and manager. Music, not showbiz. Terry Ellis did recommend Ian think of himself as an entertainer, but essentially he still remained a musical talent in the world of prog music.

It's getting hard to remember what hippies even were, I always thought it was cool Ian drifted into fishing industry, it is a good thing I think, the ocean has to b getting depleted, more people on Earth than any other time in history , lots of lil pond dwellers doing inland nurturing, "farm fishing", and it is here to stay, getting more popular seemingly. Now there is medical Mary Jane you don't have to risk your life to obtain, and Ian, it's not too late to give it a try, were much too old to develop a serious addiction, yeah, get a pinch of Mary Jane (purple haze will do) and throw her in the ol Dr.Grabo pipe just once, maybe twice, but not thrice, unless ya like it, ya know the old saying " 5 drunk guys together will start a fight or a war, 5 high guys will start a band....do what ya do Ian, your the only man I know George Martin wouldn't produce cause you were fine doing what you were doing, tha sounds like a hell of a compliment, but at the time you were looking for advice. Anyway, fare well old friend, hope your still ticking

Yeah, he's so serious! LOL. Oh, come on Jethro! ... Mr. Tull ... IA. The story has not changed, this is like a broken record. Ian always seems to get upset about the name of Jethro Tull, but there was something about that name, it was a good one, and I think if they had changed it, they might have had a similar image that people would like, but I really don't think so There was something about the name Jethro Tull I don't think I would like liked the band if they were the Ian Anderson Band or something ... what else would they be. I just wish Ian would quit fucking whining about it.

I have to think that Ian and the band maybe did change their name, but the story about them getting stuck with Jethro Tull is BS. He had to have thought about that, and what they wanted to be called when they ... if they finally broke through, because they would not be around today if they had called themselves the blades. Ian is a weird guy for sure, but God knows how he make such great music, unless he buys it from someone else. It basically says to me he is liar.
@JosephFrancisBurton
@JosephFrancisBurton 7 лет назад
Well I agree with you I do think that the story of the origin of the bands name is pure BS, but I would not go so far as to call him a liar. Lots of these older bands have apocryphal stories of the early days. I think in a lot of cases they simply can't remember, so they inadvertently invent the stories about how the band started or how the bands name came about or whatever. They were kids when they started, And they had no idea they would be 50+ years old before reporters would ask them to recount detailed stories of their youth.
@roguenation
@roguenation 7 лет назад
Methinks that Anderson is just toying with him. You would be tempted to do the same if all he could come up with was dreadfully trite questions with which interviewers plague these people.
@GrilloTheFlightless
@GrilloTheFlightless 2 года назад
The story of how they came to be called Jethro Tull has been verified by the guy that gave them the name. It’s probably wise not to call someone a liar unless you can back it up with evidence.
@justgivemethetruth

@@GrilloTheFlightless If you want to call that evidence and believe marketing BS .. go ahead. I'd bet a dollar there is a lot more to the story, but there is not much to internet busybodies, you are not worth discussing anything with.
