'Greg' is the nicest word I use for Greg Chappell - Ian Chapell.😅 An absolute legend of the game both on the Cricket field and in the commentary box. We, the cricket lovers must cherish that he is still amongst us doling out his observations and experiences.

Ian Chappell is the most intelligent man in cricket. His commentary is unique and a joy to listen to. Love to have a beer with him.

They are all gems. The bonding and friendship among them helped in their work as well. That’s a golden era for commentary. My all time favorites are Greig and Benaud

What I like about Ian Chappell commentary during matches is unlike others who just plainly describe where ball is going to mid on , cover , boundary , he Talks as captain point of view what the teams should be doing next

Could be Kim Hughes...I'd put my money on Graham Yallop, who was the official captain of the non-WSC Australia during the 78-79 Ashes series. Mike Brearly, who was captain of England, nicknamed Yallop 'Banzai' because of his ridiculously aggressive field placings.
@ManfromuncoolBlogspotstars

Yallop may have been mediocre, captaining Australia B, but the crying speech given by Kim Hughes, as he resigned, makes it a certainty that I.C. is referring to him.

Captaincy was given to Ian Chappell in last 7th test match of 1971 Ashes series England in Australia.Australia lost that test match and England won the Ashes 2:0. But next 10 years he converted Australia to a formidable side and won all the test series till 1980.A great Captain,a great team leader.The era 1970 - 1980 is called CHAPPELLI.
@andrewmaroc113

except for the series they lost - England 1977? west indies a couple of times; never won a World Series series; without Lillee and Thommo he wouldn't have won 1974-75

@@andrewmaroc113 I started listening test cricket from December 1972.From this date to present Ian Chappell is the greatest Captain.The batting pair of Chappell brothers (Ian and Greg) was the best. When any country plays against Australia in test match,I always wish Australia should win. Lille , Thomson and the big cheerfull Max Walker who with his accurate pace bowling use to take wickets intelligently under the pressure it Lille and Thomson.

@@drhemantjoshi5585 Hi Hemant thanks for your recollections. I've been a cricket fan - my first recollection was Wes Hall bowling in 1961 and I have avidly followed all cricket but mainly Test Cricket ever since. In that time I would rate - not in order - Gary Sobers, Ray Illingworth, Glenn Turner, Ali Bacher as far superior captains than Ian Chappell. None of these captains were divisive, confrontational or arrogant and yet attained better results than Chappell. Those were all in Chappell's era. Since then without giving it too much thought I would have to place Clive Lloyd, Imran Khan, Ian Botham well ahead of Chappell in all aspects of captaincy - Chappell's record as a batsman was mediocre, the run rates under his captaincy were woeful, and his success rate and results were middle of the road. Even with Lillee and Bob Massie bowling superbly he only got a drawn result in 1972. Most of the myth about his captaincy emanated from the spectacular results Thommo and Lillee( along with Max ) achieved in 1974 /75 against England. Ian Chappell wasn't captain in 1975 / 76 against the West Indies. When World Series arrived in 1977 Ian Chappell's Australians got smashed - if those results were included his record would drop from middle of road.

I think Steve Waugh (Chappelli's pet hate). I believe Tugga craved the captaincy. Kim Hughes said in a documentary that he was pushed into the job by the ACB (Bob Parish and co) while he was completely unprepared.
