In this episode, our hosts Rashad Bilal, Ian Dunlap, and Troy Millings engage in a thought-provoking conversation about financial security and the significance of reaching certain monetary milestones. Ian recounts his viral statement about feeling financially secure with 600,000 to a million dollars tucked away, which sparked controversy and triggers within the audience. He delves into the practical implications of this figure, citing examples such as the high cost of elderly care, college expenses, and the impact of inflation on investments.
The discussion revolves around the challenges of saving and reaching the milestone of 100,000, which Ian and Troy acknowledge as a significant accomplishment. They highlight the discipline and mindset required to achieve this level of financial security, emphasizing the need for sacrifice and diligent money management. Ian emphasizes the importance of continuing to invest and grow wealth even after reaching the 100,000 milestone, emphasizing the need for financial stewardship and efficient money management as one's wealth grows.
The hosts provide a candid perspective on the financial realities faced by many individuals, countering the common misconception perpetuated on social media about everyone being wealthy. The conversation brings forth the notion that financial success requires strategic planning, discipline, and a long-term perspective, dispelling misleading perceptions of overnight wealth and instant gratification.
Tune in to this compelling episode to gain valuable insights into the true meaning of financial security, the challenges of reaching financial milestones, and the importance of disciplined money management for long-term prosperity.

Me and my husband managed to save over $350k. Most of it was from my husband income. He has a small business that I help him run , but I also have a full time job working from home. Financial freedom feels great!!!! 😊

We (Black People, since we on the bottom of the racial wealth gap) need to start adapting to the mindset that your younger self have to take care of your older self so you won't be a burden to others. First make sure your mind and body is healthy by exercising, eating right and meditation (to avoid the nursing home when you get older). Make sure you are preparing for retirement whatever age you choose (starting young is best but whatever age just start). And live below your means so you don't drown in debt for the rest of your life (stop believing in the YOLO lifestyle and change that into the investment lifestyle - Invest invest invest). Its a different time. Gone of the days where most people have 3 generations living in the same house hold. We are living in a different generation, the generation of the tiny homes and van life. And a lot people will not be able afford a regular size home like we are accustom to growing up. We (Black people) have to change with the times and start working together.

My financial mentor stated that you’d need at-least a million dollar’s in the bank that was back in 2019. He stated the same thing that Ian has said about assisted living you don’t want be a burden to others. Also, potentially having to care for your parents if they don’t have savings. I’m on my way but it’s all about financial discipline which is hard.

I saved 35,000 in under 1 year. From May of 2020 to March of 2021. Then I invested it, into land. Now I'm Building. Therefore most of the money that I would be saving, is going into an investment. I am saving currently to buy additional property on another continent. I said all of that, because we know asset are wealth. And that has to be apart of the conversation concerning wealth. I literally learned that 3 years ago at 44. And that's sad.

Ian the Truth Teller!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Ian is exactly correct about the cost of aging. Assisted living or having to hire caregivers is not cheap! It costs between $4k to $10k a month. It is not cheap getting older. Yes, you could burden your family members or children by living with them, but what if you end up with Alzheimer’s or a physical disability?…this is A LOT to place onto family members, even your children and grandchildren. They have their own lives to live. That can’t go and grind trying to build wealth for their own families if they are having to take care of mama or daddy. It just doesn’t work. Sorry it’s so jarring, but it’s very true.

As much as I appreciate the aspirational message, the average person needs to hit 1M - 2M at least by retirement. Anything more is living very nice and anything less could be a challenge. Best way to save is 401k. You can hit 100K quickly between your contributions, PS and match.

22 And behold, others he flattereth away, and telleth them there is no hell; and he saith unto them: I am no devil, for there is none-and thus he whispereth in their ears, until he grasps them with his awful chains, from whence there is no deliverance. 23 Yea, they are grasped with death, and hell; and death, and hell, and the devil, and all that have been seized therewith must stand before the throne of God, and be judged according to their works, from whence they must go into the place prepared for them, even a lake of fire and brimstone, which is endless torment. 24 Therefore, wo be unto him that is at ease in Zion! 25 Wo be unto him that crieth: All is well! 26 Yea, wo be unto him that hearkeneth unto the precepts of men, and denieth the power of God, and the gift of the Holy Ghost!
