Ah, what a treat. Ian Hunter and Mott the Hoople, where he was the lead singer. One of the best songwriters and a great lyric writer. My musical experiences started with ‘the journey’ from Mott the Hoople, and still Ian is one of my favorites. He is in his eighties now and still making music, check his latest album. Thank you so much for this
I first discovered Mott the Hoople in 1974 thanks to Martin Scorsese! LOL. Scorsese used "All the Way From Memphis" to open his movie "Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore" and I was hooked from that moment on. Thanks Marty!
Ian Hunter never really broke through to US radio, but wow, was he ever a great singer-songwriter-musician! His many solo albums after Mott the Hoople are magical.
Ian Hunter was lead singer of Mott the Hoople, a band who were quite successful in the 70's, especially in Britain. As a solo artist he collaborated with the great Mick Ronson, who had worked with David Bowie on a few albums. Check out the song Once Bitten, Twice Shy, which features Ronson on guitar, it's a banger, as you crazy kids say: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Y15iusA4ylc.html
Ian and his band 'Mott the Hoople' were influences on David Bowie and Queen. Bowie gave them their hit 'All the Young Dudes' on which he sings backups. Queen appear doing backups on Ian's solo track 'You Nearly Did Me In'. Recommend both songs!
Wow, great song♥I love Mott the Hoople (Ian Hunter was their lead singer until 1974) but have never heard his solo music before. Sounds to me like it could have influenced some of my favorite late 80's music like The Cure's album 'Disintegration'. Also reminds me a lot of The Velvet Underground.
I am a huge Hunter fan with a LOT of his recordings in my collection. Rain is an interesting choice. Whilst his first eponymous solo album is accepted as brilliant (worth checking out) and his fourth (You're never alone with a schizophrenic) likewise, my favourite is Rant. A great selection of tracks - American Spy reminiscent of Mott the Hoople, Dead Man Walking (about ageism), Ripoff come to mind. I think I'll play it again now.
Fantastic deep cut from IH. He has many more as a solo artist and leader of Mott the Hoople. Still going strong too. Anyway, great reaction to and under-appreciated artist!
