John Hurt is/was my uncle. Wonderful man who cared about family deeply and went out of his way (and pocket) to make sure I had the best medical care at a time when I needed it. I lived with him in his London flat through that time and he would send me out to explore London and do the tourist thing at the weekends because even though I didn’t have anyone able to go with me he still disliked seeing a 20 something moping around a flat for the weekend. In that photo John and my brother could be twins, it was often only semi seriously suggested that if a film called for a ‘young’ John my brother would be perfect. I also have the same eyes as him, ‘they couldn’t see my eyes’ is hysterical especially since we call our eyes ‘little piggy Hurt eyes with no eyelid’. I miss him very much, he was such a dry comic and passionate actor, he hated all the ‘behind the scenes’ bonus extras on DVD as in his words ‘spoils the magic!’

In fact I was just watching him in Alien and realised just how much of the power of the infamous death scene is down to his performance. He understood the indignity of pain and didn't flinch from portraying it.

I had the happy luck of meeting Mr Mcshane when I was still living in New York. I was going to the main comic book shop to go to in the city West Coast Comics with my friends. I just saw him on the way there waiting for that light to change at the crosswalk. So there I am standing next to Al Swearengen himself, and I say to myself what the hell try to talk to him. So I say hi he say hi back I told him I am big fan of his, and we talking till we parted way on the street. I have some celebrities on the streets of New York over the years and I got to say that was the nicest encounter ever. He really is the sweetest. He could tell when I started speaking at first I was a little nervus and he was so chill and just told me to take my time we have a lot of walking to do. So so nice it was a real pleasure to meet him.

i did like him intil i realise hes just one of the leftie hollwood scum bags, and if he was talking about margaret thatcher being re elected, the worst thing that happened here in the uk, was of her not being el elctes, same sort of thing as in the usa if trump doesnt get re elected, how on earth the best president and the best prime minister were voted out in the first place must be one of the biggest mysteries of them all, and the usa and the uk obviously now realise what a terrible mistake was mad by both countries

They changed the character's name for the reboot - Professor Bruttenholm. 🤔💭I have a feeling he may do a different late night show-or more printed interviews done by phone where he talks about all his projects coming up. Deadwood Movie - May, Hellboy - April, Bolden Movie - May(if I remember), and a Dark Shadows comnentary due to be released in May too.

Ben M Uncomfortable. It looks like he warmed up. If you look at the way he sits-looks like it's manners/classiness. He did state in a podcast he likes radio interviews etc. even if he's at a radio studio better, because kind of awkward on talk shows. 🤔💭but then he seems to love talking to regular everyday kinda people who interview for a low key place.

To be honest Deadwood was pretty accurate in its historical timeline, there was really nowhere TO go with it after it had been brought into the United States, without fictionalising stories which would have robbed a lot of the shows integrity, if they had continued it would have been a fairly run of the mill soap opera of an expanding western town

Ian McShane's filmography is vast and to be respected. My personal favorite is 44 Inch Chest (2009) where he plays a gangster/enforcer (and an out, unapologetic homosexual) named Meredith, who has loads of back 'n' forth with John Hurt's character, Old Man Peanut. I highly recommend this to fans due to its dark and hilarious script and its ensemble cast, comprised of a veritable "who's who" of British cult/character actors; Ray Winstone, Tom Wilkinson, Stephen Dillane (Stannis the Mannis), Joanne Whalley, Steven Berkoff and Andy de la Tour. Sexy Beast and Deadwood are very close McShane runners-up, but I still need to watch Lovejoy, as it was before my time.

There's nothing better than honouring a deared friend that has contributed a lot the world of acting like John Hurt, I'm not a fan of Ian, but what he did was so beautiful by telling some life stories with him as a way of paying tribute to him. So, R.I.P. Sir John Hurt.

Bit of a pocket rocket, but oh my, what a handsome devil. Terrific actor, loved him since Sexy Beast.

IMHO he did very well in the ill-fated TV series "Kings". I was devastated when they canceled the series just after one season.

Does anyone remember the Lovejoy series? Excellent! If you can find it anywhere, watch it! The show is taken from the books by Jonathan Gash, which are also really good. Gash fills the books with fun quirky folks involved in the old game of buying low and selling high. By any means necessary.

I had a bit of a dodgy relationship with Lovejoy at one point because my deeeeeear husband spent half of the delivery of our second child sat in a comfy chair watching lovejoy on a laptop while munching on MY snacks. 😒 I've since forgiven Lovejoy at least.

Yes! Lovejoy had excellent scripts, a perfect cast (remember dear old Tinker?)and superb production values. It was a joy to watch. I still treasure the three episodes I saved on VHS tapes and which still play.Lovejoy was a REAL joy.
