Pearl is the best reason to play drums. But don't just take it from us.. Here's what the legendary Ian Paice of Deep Purple has to say about his experience with Pearl Drums.
Sometimes one is lucky enough to “meet” their celebrity heroes or people that they look up to, but there is also the exception where you find out what an ass your favorite can be. One of the true legends of the kit is Ian Paice and it is such a joy to hear him talk drums , places he’s been, and his expertise like a real person. Very good show, my friend
I've had four PEARL kits in my life - all the way from a cheap Maxwin in the early 80s; a fiberglass/maple hybrid; a custom maple monster and now a vintage Japanese birch DLX. I'm not going to say that PEARL are the best drums in the World, just that they are my favourite drums in the World. P.S. I have been using PAISTE cymbals for all that time too! PEARL & PAISTE - a match made in Heaven!!!
Was a kid, heroes, Bonham, Paice, Baker and the rest. Wanted a the same as those fantastic drummers. Still got my Ludwigs 52 years on and I fxxxxxg love em. Super classics and a lm402
It's ridiculous that so many people hate on Pearl, yet when you question their reasoning you find that the extent of their experience with Pearl drums is somewhere along the lines of "I saw an Export kit once and I didn't like it, so Pearl sucks!" Such narrow minded ignorance... Beautiful drums Mr. Paice!!! I enjoyed the video!
People love to romanticise about the "Made in Japan" kit. Yes, they sounded great on the album (thanks to Martin Birch) but those over sized Ludwigs would sound pretty ordinary through today's sophisticated recording and sound equipment. As Ian puts it "That was then, this is now!"
Thanks Ian appreciate an in depth look at drummers drum sets, I am a Pearl man myself, especially the hardware which is very important to me. Ian your in my top 5 drummers of all time the smoothest, fastest and just very tasteful drumming thank you! Brad Baldwin
No nonsense talk through with the emphasis on facts. However many historic kits he has sat behind, the one built to his specification and satisfaction is why he’s playing Pearl today. Quite a few nostalgic comments below which harken back to his previous set-ups; he’s obviously a man who innovates and applies his considerable experience to both what and how he plays.
thank you great drum master for your sincerily and school , the same that budy rich and the amazing bonzo for all the drummers !!!!! I hope that you still have the ludwig drum set and paiste cymbals that you used in made in japan 1972 ? was 206 series paiste and a maple ludwig series ? was not the real sizes 26x16 " , 16 x 18 "- 18 x 18" - 14 x 12 "toms , and cymbals 22 " thin ride , 18 " crash , 20 " crash , 15 " hi hats sound age 206 series ????? was the same sizes that used bonzo in the madison square garden 1973 with the ludwig plastic vista series ? all the toms looks more large and big in the videos , sorry ....you dont like to do some tour with that drum set again of the made in japan Mr Ian ???? that could be great in my opinion !!!! the same for roger glover with that old bass raiken baiker and ritchy blackmore , we miss the MK II , rest in peace for Lord ( !!!!
Every drum maker thinks they have the best drums.... and every player who has their favorite kit thinks it's the best.... It's the classic Fender/Gibson/Ibanez.......argument the guitar guys have. Pearl makes very good drums. Other guys make very good drums too. Find what you like and roll with it.
Ludwig (NC) made my custom set in 2000... It's absolutely great. I generally don't take it to gigs, but it's in the sound lab for rehearsal and recording. My alternate set is a Sonor Phonic plus.. they have a very different sound, with thick deep shells. I like them very much also. Every musician finds things that fit their style...
Ian played on Ludwig drums in the early days, and there is a better sound on them, Pearl is "middle of the 1980" Everything should sound like funk then, even rockgroups.
Jelly?? Why shoud i be jelly. There are musicans that play intruments and then there are musicans they play some kind of "instrument" like Pearl. For me pearl drums sound cold and cheap and without a trace of soul. A japanese yougurt cup , indeep ähhh indeed lol , isn´t it? By the way, have you ever seen a serios guitarplayer playing a yamaha guitar?? Jimmy Hendrix on a Yamaha? lol how funny!!!
Personally I prefer Pearl to Ludwig, but honestly they both make great drums. To have so much hate for a company you probably know little to nothing about due to your closed mindedness is pretty ignorant.
