My mom and dad lived in Northport for years. It was a quiet little town in those days. They were fairly close to 41 and had a lovely home. I definitely don’t remember all these mobile homes. I’m very sorry people are suffering so much. I lived in Venice for 20 years but moved to NC in 2020. I miss FL but not the hurricanes.
Remarkable, aerial footage of the disaster. With the gentle pace and no editing viewers have the opportunity to take in the full scope of Ian's aftermath at North Port. Not rushed 'for time' as with some of the newscasts. Five days and nights without power; oh my. With streets and roads flooded, even with your good-intentioned plan to buy a generator and groceries (if a store is even open) or additional fuel for the generator you already are using, even if you could get your water logged car / truck started you couldn't even get to the end of the block; perhaps, maybe not as far as the end of the driveway -- it's that bad. Re this captivating 11 minutes, "thank you" to the pilot, camera operator and NBC2 News' anchors who each spoke / reported informatively with caring words while using sincere, sympathetic tones.
Exit 191 I believe. The more we watch the more we see just how vast and exhausting the severe damage that occurred in so many different and widespread areas, and the extent of the enormous recovery being undertaken. And it's basically shut down the whole southwest coast economy.
Public health officials must get organized and start widespread mosquito breeding suppression on the way. Soon all these pools and lagoons of stagnant water are going to be breeding sites for mosquitoes and even rodents.
Yeah...but that isn't a priority. All resources will go to ppl first. Once they are taken care of.....they will work on that. But I do agree it'll be a issue . But with this kind of damage...that's secondary concern .
I live in Pensacola and after both Sally and Ivan we had spotted several gators in areas we wouldn't normally see them. Looters were bad after Ivan. I feel so bad for these ppl, I was getting my family packed when they weren't sure where this thing was going. Cuz not a chance I was sticking around for this disaster if it was even gonna be close to us.
We were coming home to Bonita Springs from Orlando on the 25th and the Peace River on 75 was super high then it was way up above normal past fences that are around it ,, So the inland flooding is not a surprise from Ian and the sheetflow heading south down our state ,,, God Bless 🙏 Florida
Salford, Sumpter, some of Tropicaire, Narcissist, and Ulman are flooded still. Lots of fallen trees have power lines mangled in them. Oct 3 In the estates in North Port some people can’t yet return to school or work because once can get out, they need a day or two to bathe and rent cars, etc. Some need to find hotels near their jobs. Then there is residential property damage that must be managed. Just sayin.
This is so helpful! I’m on Marco Island with no internet or cable except on your internet site via my phone. The best thing we can all do in response to your excellent coverage is to donate. Who should we donate to for supplies ASAP?
Thank you for your valuable work. Your footage showed Nokomis, n.e. of Venice, two new communities, Vicenza and Venice Woodlands. Retention ponds performed as they should. VW flooded only at extreme east end near Jackson. Jackson shows flooding, but Border Rd looks to be clear. The water in the ponds north of Mistiflower is very close to the backs of the homes. Only one home on Baneberry halfway complete. Roofs from both Meritage and Toll Bros houses in Venice Woodlands look ok. Same for Vicenza next door.
I live in Southwest Florida in town called Port Charlotte and wind destroyed lots of area!! Omg ya got to wait exactly 6 hours to get gas because most stations destroyed!! I had no cell no power no running water and family up north were hysterical I died. Lol. They sent rescue team out for me. I lost few shingles and all of Southwest Florida trees landed in my back yard!! Lol. I'm lucky because my neighbors across street looks like a nuke hit it!!! TV doesn't do justice. But me and friends still LOVE Florida;!
OMG. The anchor's commentary just shows how out of touch people are. The reality is, developers and county commissioners allowed greed to trump logic. These neighborhoods are flooded because, well, much of S. Florida is SWAMP, WETLANDS and lowland areas. You can plainly tell watching this footage that many of these developments were put in low lying areas with cypress heads. Soil scientists, in the pocket of developers go out and decide how much of a property can be built on while leaving the absolute minimal amount of wetlands as is allowed. The anchor who is talking about "water features"...so dumb. Wetlands are there to help with flooding when it happens. Just because it doesn't happen all the time doesn't mean these areas don't serve a purpose. My heat breaks for all the people who unknowingly became victims of greedy developers and complicit government co-horts who are now living this nightmare.
Very true. There will be no debate. People already there. Areas should have never been built on. Lots of FL is like this and only shows when big storm comes.
There is a video from Cuthbert Street in North Port recorded couple of hours before hurricane Ian arrived there. The video shows flooded streets before hurricane Ian dumped up to 30 inches of rain.
You should NOT move in to Florida if: You don't have a second home up north. You can't afford to buy a safe property. You need to look for a job in Florida. You you can't afford it. You are allergic to sun, mold, mosquitos, bugs and extremely hot topical weather.
I live 6 miles away in Port Charlotte from North Port!! I stayed with friends during hurricane and she says there is no flooding near her in Northport!! At first there was but it's subsided now
I live in Southwest Florida and would not dream of leaving. Hey I lived in Midwest and tornedo tore my freaking house down!!! Ya can't out smart mother nature when she strikes!! Do ya tell those in California to leave because of earthquakes!? Do ya tell people in Texas Louisania Alabama And up east coast not to live there because danger of hurricanes?? Come on wake up
I stayed with friends in North Port during hurricane!!! I live in Port Charlotte a few miles away and I know what I'm talking about!!! PC got hit with stronger wind damage but North Port more flooding!! My neighbors homes destroyed across the street and worldly possessions on the curb!! Big deal!!! I'm a Christian so it's no biggie because God spared me!! You too can know the Lord and not whimp out
A short marketing video showed up on YT promoting Sarasota. The video showed yachts parked perfectly in order suggesting that Sarasota was not affected by the hurricane. Soundtrack suggested confidence encouraging to move to Sarasota. There was a text message saying that the spirit of the Indians saved Sarasota from hurricane. 🙄
The entire city isn't on septic. The old part of North Port after river rd is more livable in that area. I am currently in that area. Everything 2004 and on has shit boxes in the front yard. Lol My previous house was an 04 with a box.
@@victoriavicky6980 I live in an area that has city sewer water and water drainage in the roads. Granted most of it goes in to a thing they call a lake full of runoff.
Have we crossed the point of no return in terms of damaging the planet? There is no such point. We need to trust that our thought, which is our greatest quality, can change nature. We only need to understand the direction to which we should aim our thoughts. What should we think about? What condition or state should we aspire to and ask for? In order to save our planet, we should think about positive human connections. That is, how can we, in our connections, keep nature safe? How can we all together protect our world? If we truly wish to better our planet, then we should see people holding a concern for how to positively connect everywhere that we look. It has nothing to do with recycling or other activities that we commonly associate with as being sustainable. If we come closer to and consider each other, that we will reach an entirely organic, perfectly connected and round state, then the negative forces will disappear from the world. We need to understand that if we start thinking better about each other, then the planet will recover from all harm, because our thoughts are the strongest force in nature. Likewise, our negative thoughts about each other are entirely to blame for damaging the planet. That is why the more we recycle and invest in energies and activities that we commonly think of as being sustainable, the worse our planet becomes. Nothing will work to benefit us until we reach a state where our attitude changes toward each other for the better to protect and improve our planet.
😎😎2:38 The Hwy looks like it was built correctly - just surface erosion - {alkaline, normally settles on top}. 😎😎🤦♂ Swamp land trees: who permitted those permits.?. - 6:03 ☣☣ You have two biohazard factors: {septic/toxic}, water; & {{gator farmer}}. = Roof camping!
I'm not sure much will change. People have a short memory but I do hope property values go back to normal because after I sold my house in NP in 2020 it went up 50% in value in 18 months.
Real estate brokers and their sales agents are supposed to DISCLOSE everything they know that affects condition of the house or any other issues affecting the property.
Florida has a mean elevation of just 100 feet (30 m). The highest elevations in the state, 345 feet (105 m), are in the central highlands, which run down the center of the state, while its lowest point is the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of Mexico, which are at sea level.
@@lorip1435 That's an important information. Do you know why Sarasota doesn't flood while North Port floods and water doesn't go down? North Port is much further from the Gulf than Sarasota.
@@victoriavicky6980 Just to the North of North Port there is Myakka River State Park and also thousands of acres of conservation land that does not have man made canals to control flooding. The natural creeks meandering South are very shallow and overflow their banks easily and add 20" of rain plus all the rain that Central Florida received flowed South automatically causing rare catastrophic flooding.

People took the risk of building an expensive mansion in a hurricane-prone area. I don't see why they should "win the lottery" on the backs of other dutiful insurance premium payors by having their yachets and mansions rebuilt.
It looks suspicious. There are 80,000 people living in North Port. Why there is still no sewage system ? Streets of North Port were flooded hours before hurricane Ian dumped up to 30 inches of rain.
I moved here 6 years ago and honestly the area shouldn't be lived on. It is a wet land swamp like environment between a major river and many canals. We are also about 2 hours north of the everglades. The damage reflects the point. It's a complete disaster zone. Been in Florida 18 years and have never seen or experienced my house shake like it was going to blow away! All of us here are lucky to have survived Ian! I can't even imagine what is going on in FT. Myers and that area. The sad part about it is I've watched 20+ thousand people move here in 6 years😬
@@A.Walker. Thanks for the kinds words. Much appreciated. It will take time but some will rebuild and some will leave. I am teetering on the later myself.
North Port, FL was once a nice quiet laid back city when I moved here 7 years ago. Today I have to dodge clumps of dog poop all over the sidewalks on my morning walks. I also have to battle with the bicyclist, electric scooters and golf carts riders who think they have more rights to the sidewalks than I do. In other words it's become just another hell-hole where you do as you please.
I mean looters aren't worried about this area unless they have boats. And is it worth looting somewhere that is flooded? Looting should be the least of the worries right now..
There is another video posted by the same real estate saleswoman showing her life style: late breakfast and coffee ☕ by the swimming pool 🏊♂️ Life is good video suggests
This is all well and good, except most people needing rescue or resources don't have power to see this, most don't have cell service, it's out in a lot of places. You need to get the info printed and put out for people. Drop it from a chopper.
drop from a chopper straight into the water? There is a lot of help there and more on the way...Food pods are there, Starlink is there....all is being done to help the residents of this community. I have family in this town and they are getting out for food and supplies power is back on and clean up has started. National guard is there to assist.
And it's just the beginning of the last time. Many people refused God's Law. Vatican's pope still bow down and speak to statues :) of Fatima, instead of praying to Lord Jesus Christ. As he sacrificed Ukraine & Russia to her, that's why it doesn't help. And he still teach to celebrate Sunday 1st day of the week, instead of Sabbath 7th day according to Law of God. That's why we have got all these issues. So we need to repent & go back to the true worship of God.
DeSantis and Rubio turned their backs on other hurricane victims ... Now they're lobbying for compassion ... (When you tempt fate - you invite KARMA ...)
This is not the time to point fingers and show hate. There is no such thing as karma. Karma is works of satin. Jesus will return. This is just the beginning. The world is evil. And corrupt..Jesus said, for those with out sin cast the first stone. Can we say , we are with out sin? Don’t judge but be judged! But I don’t hear nothing about Biden? Only God can judge, not man. Maybe we are being judged now, this just might be the beginning of the wraith of God.
