Ian Rush. Legend. Obviously. Great to see so many others on display as well, I'll only mention one, the Great Dane , Jan-scouse accent-somebody need their car moving??- Molby!! Sublime skill, vision and control and a range of passing as good as it gets.
One of the main reasons why we at United didn’t win a league championship in the 80’s and Liverpool won all they did was the fact that we didn’t have a 25-30 goal a season striker while Liverpool did and it was this guy. I would say him and Gary lineker were the 2 best goalscorers in the 80’s.
scherben I would say rush gave a more all round game and would set things up as well whereas with lineker it was just goals. That’s not to say he wasn’t a great player though.
scherben I never understood Edwards. We knew he would pay the money if the right player was available like he did for robbo. And he gave fergie all that money in 89. Maybe he just didn’t want to give it to big Ron.
@@mrkipling2201 I think his fingers had been burned by Alan Brazil's poor form; and I think Bobby Charlton joining the board in 1984 was a big influence, too. It was Charlton (according to Atkinson) who helped talk the board out of giving £750,000 for Terry Butcher in the summer of '86.
The derby goals eventually dried up for Rush. After scoring twice in the September '89 derby he only managed two more in the remaining 6 and a half years of his Liverpool career.
Simon Delaney one of the worst competitions ever. Howard Kendall’s team talk for Everton before they played Norwich was something like who cares about this just go and do whatever!!
@@mrkipling2201 Yes I remember that. I remember it also went on for ages and drew poor attendances. My Evertonian mate used to always argue that Rushies goals should not have counted in those games when he was chasing Dixie Dean's record
Stephen F thanks I knew it was something like that and I don’t blame him the competition was crap!! Why the football league thought that would be a replacement for European football is beyond me.
Out of all the trophies Liverpool won in the 80’s I don’t think the screen sport super cup will be prominent in the trophy room!! And the 4-4 cup game needs watching with the sky commentary, Martin Tyler and Andy gray.
