I haven't heard this song I'll bet in over 40 years.. I remember when I first heard it. I was probably 8 or 9 Snow storm and it was playing on a local station barley coming through the static when they would cut the power down after 6 pm. I knew I liked it and always turned it up when it was playing. Dad drove a truck so I kinda related it to a trucker tune as well as a cowboy song. R.I.P Ian.
Alberta's Child has crossed The Great Divide now he is Riding with Jesus. No more heavy loads, no more health issues. While Charlie Russell is painting his sunsets, Ian is singing his stories about living out west. There is an old Indian proverb about coming into this world crying and rejoicing when we leave. I pray for Jesus to continue to ride with us as we all make our journey over The Great Divide. Ian may be physically gone, but his spirit lives on in the priceless treasures of his stories and songs. We are blessed!!!
I couldn't have said it all better myself! For the better part of fifty years Ian's songs painted a picture, just as Charlies paintings do. You also painted the picture for me! God bless and keep us all.
Four years ago I was driving in a snow storm with 3 inches of snow on the road ahead of me, slipping and sliding all over the road while listening to this very song, these lyrics spoke to me in such a profound way I knew Jesus would help me pull my heavy load, all I had to do was ask, and I did while in a fit of tearful joy, knowing I'd have that reassurance for the rest of my days on this Earth.
For 50 years, i a n Tysons music has painted a picture for me, just as Charlie Russell does. God those incredible artists for keeping the old west alive.
Was raised on this man's unique and amazing music. Being born and raised in Alberta I like to think the blood we bleed is similar. What a treasure Ian Tyson is!! Greetings from Makepeace Alberta 😁
I haven't heard this song in 25 years. I could remember some of the music and partial lyrics and it was driving me nuts. Thanks for restoring my sanity.
