COOPS Its funny, I never knew that a Mosin variant was designed/attempted. I've been toying off and on the past few years with the idea myself based on 7.62x25, but it's no small feat of engineering. Funnily enough, 3d printing is going to make or break it for me before I hand it over to a real machinist. Being able to put pieces together and saying this and that fit but we don't have this right... I'm just doing it for shits and giggles because I like a puzzle. If it ever happens, I'm sure a few people will want one, but I doubt we could do it cost effectively. Maybe crowd funding.

Not only you...must have been gun hating assholes, because normal people wouldn't do that to historical documents (even if they don't like the subject matter or just aren't interested! No, I bet they really hate guns, otherwise I can't explain it!)

Flurry, believe me you would not believe what people throw out when they get an inheritance because they don't know what a thing is or realise how significant it is. I'll give you a personnal example: one of my great-great(-great ?) uncles was an inventor who was in the french army. He invented some kind of differential (can't remember precisely what it was) that turned out to be key in the invention of modern helicopters. My grand mother had the original PROTOTYPE in her basement for years ! Guess what she did ? She threw it away because she only saw it as a pile of junk only worth its weight in metal.

I'm not even a gun-person, but four or five years ago I was watching a movie and noticed how a 1911's barrel sat at a funny angle when the breach was open. My usual fit and start way of research brought me to Forgotten Weapons (when you still had the cool, if slightly goofy intro, Ian) where I found out about tilting barrels and breach locking in general. I've watched daily and have even had chance to profit from it, though only by impressing a friend by identifying his Browning by model number and field stripping his PPK. it has been fun.

Yes, if God' Son had physically visited earth today as He did some 2,000 years ago, He might have been a firearms collector, (when He wasn't healing, preaching love and dying to save us from our sins) for He commanded His followers to own deadly weapons. Jesus told His disciples, "...if you don't have a sword, sell your coat and buy one." Luke 22:36 Now the sword in Christ's day was the infantrymen's main battle weapon. Today's equivalent would be the M16, Tavor, AK47, HK416, M4, SCAR etc.

How-It-Should-Have-Ended Forgotten Weapons version: If the top brass just kept the plans for the Pedersen rifle long after WW1 ended in 1918, John Garand would have ready access to a frame of reference to use in building his rifle for the upcoming Second World War by reverse engineering it from the Pedersen plans instead of taking the time-consuming approach of building it from scratch.

Hearing what happened to these technical documentation about the Pedersen device for 4 different bolt action rifles made my blood boil. As a french, I've seen this happen countless times (in other fields like aviation history since this was more my thing several years ago). Old timers with LOTS of documentation and items in their collection they spent a lot of time gathering and preserving, losing it all due to the stupidity and sheer ignorance of their own families who didn't even try to search what was special about that stuff. Then you've got another problem : for decades, historical funds specialised into some unpopular fields (firearms being one of them) were either difficult to access for civilians, with lots of stuff in reserves never to be displayed, or simpy not existing, and other museums not in shape to gather all that stuff. Finally things are starting to move in the right way these days, and the work of people like Ian is absolutely essential in this respect. It's by creating interest around these fields you ensure people with zero knowledge about them will not commit the foly of destroying what has historical value. Which, in these times of iconoclasty sadly seen in the middle east for several years now, should be a wake up call for any enthusiast in any historical field.

Same shit happened here in Norway. Well, not the same but similar in consept, artifacts lost to incompetence. Norwegian farmers have destroyed HUNDREDS of Viking graves, shredding and tearing ancient armor, weapons and jewlery with their tractors and plows. ''But how could the farmers know there was a viking grave in his field?'' Viking graves are special, they aren't just unmarked graves in flat grass lands. Viking graves have mounds on top of them, an almost perfect round circle of soil emerging from the ground spanding 4 to 5 meters in width, standing out like a zit on your forehead. And the farmers who see nothing unnatural about that, grinds them down with their machinery just to plant some potatoes. If us Norwegians had actually embraced our own culture and schooled our kids about our past instead of americanizing our country, these farmers could have recognized that they had 1300+ years old treasure on their property. This is the reason Viking artifacts are some of the rarest in the world.

Was that not all Desert? No, 3000 years ago it was flush jungle and there a lot of evidence of this, under the sand they constantly find ruins of cities and towns, these all date back to anything from 3000 to 10 000 years. Burning of a library is never fund but Alexandria may have held a lot of historical texts on African Empires specially Atlantis and why the desert came to be in Sahara as we know today its mostly sea floor sand that exists in Sahara, now ask yourself how that came to be.

As a gun enthusiast, and an aspiring gun smith; also being quite mechanical inclined and creative. I would like to say with confidence that you can learn a great deal more about a subject by studying what did not work out for some reason or another. Edison Knew the importance of failure and persistence. He also knew how to implement other people ideas into his own, and create something better.
@Isaac-ho8gh
@Isaac-ho8gh 4 года назад
Exactly, I even learnt about an awesome feature about an early Austrian blowback pistol which used a quite powerful cartridge loaded for similar pressures to 7.65mm Mauser.. It was still a simple blowback pistol which didn't have a huge slide nor bolt like Hi-Point pistols generally do. But what was great about it is that the slide could be temporarily disconnected from the recoil springs to avoid fighting such strong spring pressure required! That pistol was a failure but I REALLY want to try to adapt that for rifle cartridges potentially if a 9x19mm Parabellum carbine I thought of works with a pretty light bolt.

In my opinion ( and Only mine ) they are not true citizens. Merely reaping the rewards from others labors. It is difficult to become informed, to write, and speak out. To procure a firearm, become proficient in its use. To accept responsibility for your own safety, the safety of your family, as well as your community and country. To gather, peacefully, to protest. To gather together to pray, and protect others to pray in their own ways. Et al... The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled, in effect: If you fail to exercise a right over a lenght of time, you no longer have that right. You have abandoned it and it is now lost to you. I like Ian, he's got a real inquisitive head on his shoulders that I, as a firearms specialist and collecter totally identify with.

Everything I've learned from old mil-surp, and other types of guns, have come from Ian from Forgotten Weapons. It really is such a gift to have him on the internet. Thank you so much, Ian, and Carl.

Guns are pieces of history and marvels of engineering. I’m so happy Ian appreciates these qualities and presents these firearms in an educational way. We need more gun owners/enthusiasts like Ian in the world.

First of all... let me state I'm a writer of fiction, "action fiction". I'm NOT mechanical but am fascinated by guns and how they influence characters and stories. I've watched Ian's work on Confederate weapons over and over again. I have been surprised, educated, and it has caused me to enrich the novel's depth greatly. Ian has a keen eye for not only story telling but making people feel welcome about guns... even IF they don't know much about them. I also appreciate the fact that he isn't afraid to call any firearm a piece of shit, when it needs to be said. I was a huge fan of Hickok 45, Iraq Veteran 888, The Duelist, and others... but Ian clearly puts a sharp, focused spin on weapons from another time.

what i like most about this guy i don't know if he reads any the comments , but every time that i make an odd request for a certain historical hard to find piece down the road a bit i check out you tube and their it is the request that i asked for = from the stoner-63' , the mas -38' machine pistol , the Bar-moniter, the SOE wel rod silenced pistol , the mat-49' , the old reliable M-3' A1 , the WW-2' sten , the state of the art simple but easy MAC-10' he's done them all and he's never boring

For whatever reason, Ian's eyes are dilated way more than usual in this video; perhaps Gun Jesus was just wandering about the desert, conversing with burning bushes and such, if you get my meaning..? *ponders*
@brandon3883
@brandon3883 6 лет назад
Ah ha! You figured it out! His eyes are _due to Arizona cacti!_ ...and/or toads. Oh, those desert toads! What _can't_ they dilate? :D

Sure there are bushes in AZ. They're small and use less water than trees...

There's also the answer of "have you noticed how, in every video Ian does while outside in Arizona, there are bushes and even trees around him?"
