I am not a IIM grad, but I did my MBA from US in an Ivy League university. I am a undergrad of BITS Pilani and have a lot of friends from IIM and 4 friends in civil services ( 2 IAS). I think I can add my two cents here. MBA life is a completely different ballpark than IAS. It is also way different if you do an MS or MTech. The only good thing which makes an MBA or MIM stand out is the salary. But again if you’re from a tech background, this difference is nullified. MBA in most cases is a specialised field, unless you’re taking up a generalist role in an consulting firm. In most cases when you graduate from a B school, you’ll start with a manager/associate consultant/analyst depending on your field. Manager is not a high position. It is somewhat a lower-mid tier management. You’ll be working on your own and in few cases will have a team under you. In most firms, the distinction between manager/analyst/etc. is purely an addition of some function for the manager. Which in most cases have nothing to do with people management but rather project management. Again, manager roles/responsibilities also depend on company and division of the company. For eg. In India as most companies are functionally either tech support/dev or BPO, Indian roles are way different than the one in the west or the business/commercial end of it. An IAS on the other hand enjoys way more power in this regard and cannot be matched with an MBA. The core role for an IAS in the initial years is around people and admin management. This functional role is something which an MBA grad takes around 5-10 years to reach if he/she is lucky. On the compensation side, the salary is less than that of an MBA grad. But the perks might close the gap a bit for the IAS but will not bridge it. Having said that, career progression in some cases is fast and is slow in some for an MBA grad. In IAS it is mostly seniority based. Impact is something which an MBA can never match with the IAS unless he/she is at an executive level committee in a big firm. In most cases, the impact of the work of an MBA is mostly limited to the company. In many cases, you’ll not even be able to see the impact of your work in the starting stages of your career. This is not the case with an IAS where the impact and its visibility is way higher from day 1. Job satisfaction is subjective. I have seen tons of MBAs going through a mid life crisis due to lack of interest in their jobs which is mostly due to monotony of work, lack of purpose, low impact, no intellectually stimulating challenges etc. An IAS can also suffer the same, but the work profile would be way more dynamic than a MBA. An IAS is more likely to get bummed by his political bosses than his work profile. Grass is always greener on the other side. I’ll not give my verdict but an honest advise. NEVER chase money blindly. Make sure that you have enough to satisfy all your needs, some indulgences and unforeseen exigencies. That’s it. After a point, money doesn’t give you the thrill. You’ll buy a car, a house, expensive tech, jewellery etc. After this you’ll not get the high from spending. Job satisfaction is paramount. You’ll be doing your job minimum of 8 hours a day for your whole life. Choose the profession doing which you won’t get bored. Otherwise life will hit you hard in middle of your career.
bhaiya mai 24 ka hu abhi se midlife crisis lag rha...abhi intern shuru kiya h paytm me last semester h college ka IIIT Allahabad ... ghr wale puchte h higher studies MBA ya IAS ki prep kyu nahi krte ... package acha milega but in dono me se koi bhi zada happening nahi lagta ... kya kru 🙄?
@@shivansh-gup Since you’re 24 ,I guess you’re doing your masters. I’ll not advise you to go for MBA at this stage. You can do MBA at any point in your life. Many people do MBAs in their late 20s. As you’re from CS background, I’ll advise you to go for a job in tech. The market is down right now, but it will not always remain like this. Remember that period of contraction is followed by period of expansion. So you’ll not be without job. Going with a job is the safest option for you at this stage. Spend few years in the industry and then decide what you want. You’ll have a lot better clarity then. Many people switch from CS to non-CS roles. MBA is one of the paths for doing so. For IAS, if you are truly passionate about the field, then prepare for it. It’s one of the best career options but also the riskiest ones. If you want to go for an IAS, do your prep while you’re doing your job. Focusing all your time on IAS without a job is a waste of time. Why not earn while you prep for it. You can try to join a product based company or a firm with a good work life balance. This will help you in your prep. Don’t join a startup, if you want to prepare for IAS. You won’t get any time. IAS is the most dynamic role. But it is part field work, part desk job. A big chunk of General MBA role is in project and people management. If you’re in management consulting in a firm like BCG or McKinsey, then you’ll have the most dynamic life 24x7. (You’ll also work on weekends). A job in tech is comparatively less dynamic unless you’re in a startup, where you’ll be sitting beside the CTO building the code. Decide what you want from life and choose rationally. Don’t rush into things.
@@kickassguy704 maine 2 yr drop liya tha...btech ka final semester h abhi. @@shivansh-gup Don’t get demoralised. You have a bright future ahead. Just focus on learning new skills. The Tech, Analytics and Data Science industry in India is on a strong trajectory. You’ll get a good job if you have the right skills. As you are in your final year, select the tech domain in which you wanna go initially and learn the skills. You can always make a switch. As for MBA, you can do it at any point in your life, if you want to make a switch. Plus there are a lot of 1yr execs program in India now. You can even take them up in your thirties. So chill and focus on self improvement.
One more point I would like to add:- Getting into top B schools and getting job in a top consulting firm is way more easier than cracking the UPSC exam. ✌️
@@AmarRajput02 I believe it’s not unethical, MBA is the highest degree and IAS is the most powerful person. Both have pros and cons. The money that mba can help you earn can not be compared to with a salary of ias and same goes with the power of IAS. Also we know, in today’s era “the power of money is more than that of IAS’s power” 😉
There is no comparison in between these two. We talk about person life after mba but the irony is if you're at any managerial position company will suck the blood out of you daily for 13-14 hrs a day and you're expected to perform well every month no matter what. Above grade B post the starting salary is at least 10 lpa. Nobody wants to work hard till 60 everybody wants a comfortable life after 40 years of age. All those so called "work is life" People will start talking about health, family, personal time after 40. "Private job looks lucrative for initial 10-15 years but give more pain after certain age whereas govt job (above grade B) job might pay you less in the beginning but it will give you peace of mind and healthy lifestyle to live your life to the fullest post 40"
@@tusharmeshram1089 in a simple way, if u r a person who don’t want to explore the world, then the government jobs r good.. After a certain time of doing job u can start a startup or a company.. n u know money also can buy an IAS
@@mr.bb6962 Indeed... But how long will you "Explore the world" You'll have to stop at some point. Govt jobs give you enough money and respect in the society. Talking about IAS, yes you can buy and dishonest IAS but can you buy the respect he gets in the society?? Certainly NOT because not EVERYBODY can become an IAS.
People only see the power of IAS but the stressful life and the situations they handle they are uncomparable so you have to prioritize that you want happy and calm life or you only want to work for government away from your family IAS jitna accha dikhta hai unka kam utna he hard hota hai

Feels great when I know Biharis are also doing great in corporate, love from Bihar ❣️ My brother has post graduated from IIM INDORE , no doubt they get good package but UPSC is my choice
It's not about a particular post of IAS( DM ) it's more about how senior IAS someone is. After starting as an IAS officer they are assigned as DM after 5-6 years of service. Senior IAS has way more power and influence than any DM. Many DMs are also promoted from State PCS after 15-20 years of service. One cannot compare UPSC qualified officers with other jobs either they are IAS , IPS , IRS , IFS , IES etc.
The 1st video on this burning topic of youth, that is discussed with proper reasoning and research. Very nice Dada! Keep posting such videos! Also from Kolkata. Please make one video on General Management roles !!!
Bhai ..IAS is most vibrant job in country .He holds variety of department throughout the career .The respect , pride and work satisfaction is more than MNCs ..IAS has arena of opportunities open even he resigned any time from govt in corporate with crores of package ...
No one will give crores of package It requires domain specific experience And that an IAS don’t have. An IAS can do management but an IIM management student can do it much better way.
One correction... in terms of salary or package IAS or UPSC jobs are on par with corporate jobs in India (not talking about foreign placements) Because if you consider the rent of the bungalow of an IAS, house help, Police constables for house security and as body guards, Car, Driver , Gardener, leave travel allowance and many more facilities your package will cross or remain equal to an IIM grad. Combining all the facilities of an IAS it will give you a starting package of nearly 60 LPA + Power and Respect + Satisfaction of directly bringing a change in people's life.
doesn't matter ...if you want to buy a home for yourself ... you cant pay EMI from all the facilities given to an ias and a bunglow and all that only lasts for 10yrs until you are in service but when you are posted in the secretariat or equivalent posts your free resources gets limited and your city expense starts mounting up. Yes you can live a decent life with high respect with this service but the maximum package an ias can draw in his or her late 50s is around 35lpa ctc where as an iim grad draws around 3-4cr ctc.
None of that can be counted as one's OWN assets. In corporate there's no ceiling to what you can pocket. It just depends on what you want. My priority is actual money, not extra perks & so I'll be going the MBA route. To each his own.
Comment section seems to be quite immature ,first of all the comparison shouldmt be there and if they are beimg compared let me tell you, leave the thoughts after clearing ias i myself has dropped 3 years for upsc preparation and it sucks you dont know where to stop but if you prepared for cat beacause of quant, varc,,lrdi you will have the opportunity of giving wide ranges of exam from banking ,ssc and diff mba exams as well.please read about upsc failures from quora you will realise everybody is not tina dabi or junaid people who spend their precious youth while preparing for this exam.
One of My cousin Do MBA He use to work for 70k salary per month In Whole Night Duty on PC But Now he got tired from it , and Now preparing For UPSC So think IAS Have more opportunities , Like you can Do MBA form Stanford University On govt. Exp And Become CABINET Secratery After 29 years of service !!!! Like If U are agree .
Bhai 2 kaudi ke B-school se MBA karoge to yahi hoga. Aur IAS ke baad kyu hi karna h MBA? Govt sponsor karegi to kaam bhi vapas aake yahi karna padega, govt ke liye, on govt salary.

Par mba ke baad growth prospects are way more than in government jobs, where promotions are super strict & pre-defined for the most part. Even a good engineer worth his salt will go from 5 to 15lpa fast. I prefer having all my money to me, IAS mein log bangla gaadi ko property ginne lagte hain, aur kehte hain same lifestyle hoti to blah blah, kyu hi chahiye mereko 10 janitors?! So, probably you should be better informed before preaching. Mai to sarkari ko kucch keh bhi nahi raha tha, in fact, I'll sit for RBI Grade B this year most likely
1:48 DM is not only the post an ias officer enjoy there are higher posts than DM where ias enjoy more powers like secretary, chief secretary, cabinet etc
Well, IIM graduates have more freedom to do things in their life like investing in stocks and companies, while IAS officers can't do that. Unless they use some corrupt methods, they can't become millionaires. And if they use corruption, then there will always be danger of getting caught someday. India is changing, those people who are openly corrupt won't be able to survive in the future as our country is getting more and more stricter. Business opportunities will grow even more in our country, so my bet is on getting an BBA MBA degree from top B grade colleges like IIM. Not only will you have more freedom to do things, you will also be able to start your own business and have a chance of becoming the next AMBANI.
Power toh nahi rehte but Jo connections bante heh vo compare nahi kar sakte . If you are an IAS officer and you want some appointment with doctor of top AIIMS just call anyone of your friend who is under the secretary of health department in India they would make an arrangement for you. If you want your passport immediately just call anyone of your friend who is an IFS your would be done immediately. IAS is not about power in initial you have would have power but later on you would have awesome connections . This connections cannot be beaten by any job . I read this answer on Quora by an IAS officer of Tamilnadu cadre.
As you grow higher, you get more power than a DM. You grow to DM with just 9 years of service and have district under you. But as a joint secretary or a secretary, you have immense power, and have DMs under you.
Damn good topic ...👍 IAS sirf wo karte hai jo one time mehnat aur baki life ayyashi karna chahtey hai !! Govt job matlab security ... Par MBA and IAS bakwas hai ab .. For me freelancing is the best and crypto currency trading is the best !!
One very important thing is missing!! What is the use of doing "jo huzur" to a corrupt non matric political leader after cracking a tough exam like IAS? Now-a-days in India, the IAS can not work as per the rules and the constitution. They have to work as per the wish of their political masters. Don't like at all. Another point is if one resigns, he can not write IAS after his name. Being an IAS, you can have recognition only in India, not abroad, whereas an MBA from IIM is well recognized all over the world. Raja deshate pujyate, bidwan sarbatra pujyate.
Most of them are myths bro...most of the politicians are good....try to gain knowledge about ias and ips then talk....and I have seen most of the ips and ias beat them and even if cbi , ed arrest minister and you know who is the boss that there is an ips or ias officer behind cbi and ed....being an ias you can go abroad and you can attend secretary meeting between two countries....

Sir I don't know how are your video topics so accurate like i have been confused amongst these two for the past 2 months but I guess I have made my decision now .Thanks alot sir 😊😊😊
The most common reason people choose to go for IAS is that they don't have to work after getting the job. The whole idea of 'kamchori' is the motivation. One of the biggest disadvantages of going for IAS is you can lose time incase you fail to crack. Imagine your life becoming a failure if you fail to crack. MBA is a safer choice.
Money is most powerful and most supporting role as you grow in life, which IIM can give you. IAS can too, but through corrupt means. In these globalized economic markets IIM jobs has more to give you in life. IAS is an old job, which is struggling (no pension). IIM is a new monster. Even govts. are also considering IIM experienced people for top decision making roles from the back door

Job nhi hai service hai...there is a difference between job and service. And every profession has their own pros and cons and also depends upon person to person...so it's not like good or bad jobs.. instead it depends upon the person to person interest.
Let me say something - you know upsc is not about just salary , power , lifestyle , just listen when an IAS offficer cross the seniority of 31 year he became secretary and they make law's for our country and for the jamorin's MBA profiles so just don't compare themselves . UPSC is far better than anything until or unless you want to work something different in corporates.
