I have the same guitar and, I changed the neck/bridge out for Rail Hammer Hyper Vintage…that woke it up. I kept the true velvet pickup because it is a great pickup for clean passages. The Hyper Vintage pickups do everything right. The pickup cavities do need to be milled a little so, that’s something to think about. Personally, if I had it to do it over, I’d do it. I almost returned it because of the stock pickups but, with help from my pedal board, I got some really nice tones out of it but, I wanted it to be able to play blues-rock when I got the urge…thank god for Rail Hammer pickups!!!

I have one and I love it both clean and dirty I just find the sound of true velvet with katana too brittle if that's the right description. Almost have a fret buzz sound without actual fret buzz.

I have 3 of these in different colors. The True Velvet pickups on all of them sounds terrible to me as well.

It sounds good in the 2 and 5 positions mixed with the neck or bridge pup for that stratty quack sound. But it is a little brittle by itself. I think the problem is it’s a strat pup designed to be used with 250k pots and this guitar has 500k pots to push those humbuckers. I’m thinking about throwing a single coil in there designed to work with 500k pots like zexcoils. Zexcoils actually have six coils in a single coil size. Hum canceling and they sound unreal!!! I have them in my strat and I’ll never take them out unless I sell the strat

lol @4:03. It's the players playing that responsible for soul not the pickups. The pickup just gives you that special tone.

It was an expression. And yes, the other didn't sound as good with the same pickups. Soul? That's on the speaker my friend ;)

This guitar is S series S1070PBZ and not RG Series

Nope, it's an RG. The S series are super slim.

Different guitar. They make a s version with nearly the same top, neck, pups and bridge. But it’s a bit thinner and the body is made of mahogany (the rg is basswood) and has a slightly different shape. It’s a great guitar but I put a bare knuckle Warpig in the bridge and it sounds way better now. Looking to upgrade the middle and neck pups next. With all due respect, you should maybe do a little homework before accusing people of not knowing what they’re talking about?!
