I have the same bass. The output and voicing of the pickups and preamp really owns anything else in the same price range. Not a vintage sound but something very modern and aggressive
Had one in Piano White (pearl flecks). Loved it, sounded amazing. Gigged once.....😮😮😮😮 Hated it. The indents on the pickups where the screws are is the same natural place I rest my thumb. Sold it months later in 2015. Fast forwarding 6yrs, I wanted a backup bass for my scruffy punked up Warwick Rockbass. I find a guy selling his SR300E in Pearl Fade Metallic, no battery and untested? £95!! That's NINETY FIVE POUNDS FFS!!!! No marks, plugged in a new 9V Duracell. Packatachow baddddiddley dang!! Absolutely superb bit of kit, only lacked two strap buttons which I had two spares of from my Warwick because I use a locking strap on that one. Crucially the pickups don't have those screw inlets, so my thumb rests completely comfortably on them. Yours has the older pickups than the SR300E. I am now considering a nice SR300EB with a double trade-in for an Ergodyne and Squier Jazz 5-string as a straight swap. I may yet swap one set of strings for a downtuned B_E_A_D set, the way it is on the Ergo... BTW, you're making this bass sound a s**tload better than I can with mine but wow, isnt it just so much bass for so little money?
Dude you're an amazing musician! And you make that bass sing like no other. You bring out the harmonics on that bass like a boss! Awesome awesome demo of this bass. Very well done sir!
Thank you!!!!! For being not too serious but objective enough to give a decent review and showing what little love on a low end instrument can do. Bravo Zulu!!
I had this bass for over 10 years. I thought about maybe getting a different bass or fixing up the one I have but after watching this video I'm going to stick with the one I got. You absolutely kill it. Love the review!
Johnny Lee Long as Marvin would say “You’re The Man” Thanks to you I just purchased a used Ampeg BA 112 and a used Ibanez Tmb 100 both items in great condition. I’m a beginner so between what I picked up from you and some of my buddies who are musicians I should be okay . I enjoyed your videos immensely!! Keep up the good work my Brother, Solid!!!!!

It seems I made good decision with my first base six months ago 😀 Many thanks for all you videos Johnny. I love them.
Awesome energetic and skilful review Johnny! I have a MIJ Ibanez Soundgear from the 90s. Gigged it HEAVILY, it’s been a rainstorm, neck swelled up, new bridge installed to take heavier gauge strings. It took EVERYTHING I’ve ever thrown at it and still comes back singing sweetly to this day. I thinned the herd through the years from 10 to 2, the Soundgear and a Gibson T-bird. Others here have said it. Ibanez make some great sounding basses!!!
Sweet demo....I just ran across one of these basses in lefty, for $200 in super condition, and wanted to see some videos on it before driving out to purchase...I know now I need one to add to my arsenal
man your videos are cool!! you are a cool guy..your playing inspirational!! i started playing guitar in 1975 and bass around 1984. i still play both but about 80 percent bass playing!! thanks !!
Didn't know they had an active version of the SR 300, guess I gotta get me another one, mine's is passive had her since 95' I see even the pickup's and bridge is different, she sound nasty indeed, think it's time for me ta get an update!!!
This and my squier CV 60s jazz are perfect duo, modern and classic, both sound great, the ibanez is easier to play, with wider range of tone, but the JB is just classic.
Johnny, love you and all, but until you finally catch-up to 2019 and start doing these videos with direct sound recording, your viewers will never be able to tell how thick and pure that sound is. You go through an amazing arsenal of basses, but we can't hear any of the subtleties that make these instruments unique.
I disagree, hearing it through an amp is fine and has its own appeal compared to a DI, but I think sometimes he needs to up the volume because it does become a problem when the acoustic finger clank is louder than the signal. Also, if we heard the direct signal it would make for a lot of hassle to edit because he talks through it all the time.
Yeah, that's one thing that he records on a phone basically. The other very unusual thing is that he always starts testing active basses with everything cut. Like anyone would ever play an active bass like that.
@@Dinozzo1995 Hearing an amp IN PERSON is fine. Not an amp through a video / phone camera's microphone. If you want to make quality content to share with the world, you need to deal with video editing. It's easy to alternate between direct and microphone when you know how.
Totally disagree on this. I prefer a video review with amp than DI, it's more realistic. Plug 10 different basses via direct signal, recordem them and upload it on youtube, ramdom play it and 3 you'll barely guess 3 or 4 of them. You just loose lots of nuances when going direct.
Johnny: I had a 2011 Ibanez SR405QM 5 string with the charcoal burst. One of the controls (I think it was the blend) duplicated as a volume in 2017. Readings indicated it was possibly the capacitor that went bad and the shops around town wanted a lot to fix it. I traded it for a 2018 Fender Jazz Elite V in Tobacco burst. I love my Fender, but thinking back I should have kept that Ibanez and got it fixed. I did like it a lot. By the way, former Newport News resident here (I think you live in Richmond). Great videos!
Ibanez SR Series are a monster. I have 4 of them. 405, 505 & 2 - 805's. Those Bardolini's kick some real be-hind. One of my 805's needs a new neck cuz that girl be twisted. Can you make another one? Shadakaka.
Johnny those look like dish washing gloves. 😂 Johnny could make a video on getting the action right. I need good action for slapping. My A string doesn’t doesn’t have it. Also, do you have the treble up?
I'm about to buy an Ibanez SR370 but I'm afraid it have poor electronics (pickups and preamp) Is it easy to change it? is it worth? Or I should just buy an other bass? If yeas, what do you recommed? LIke the ibanez sr300 alternative
Pickups defo aren't stock, I bought mine two days ago and it's mint, my friend who's an old bass player called it a bargain. Ibanez sr300eb and mine is in weathered Black. You won't find a better bass than that for that price, at least not brand new. Peace
Hey Johnny killer grooves happening with the nasty. I am still figuring how to setup an Ibanez SR905 maybe due to the 24frets neck. Would you recommend an almost flat board or more relief than usual? And for string height, how much at 12th fret? Appreciate any help
Sweet soundin bass. And the SR300 isn't even one of their expensive models. I have 2 SRs, an SR-05F (ex Jethro Tull) and an SR-1305. Both with J type pickups, earlier models. A bit narrow but nice to play anyhow.
