Wow great job! Perhaps you could post a schematic of the original amp design and then indicate on the schematic the changes you made. That would be a big help : )

@@dimitris70 Indeed. The gain channel is more of an overdrive vintage style sound. If you want real distortion for hard rock and metal etc I would go for a different amp. There are many high gain combos available with decent clean channel sounds as well 👍🏻
I honestly cannot remember what cab it was. The Strat has some hotter than usual Mexican Standard pickups and a cheap Gretsch humbucker in the bridge. I have since done even deeper mods on this amp and I think I am going to end up likely building a full on JTM clone circuit into it on turret board.
Great video. Have you ever considered selling a kit, with all the parts needed for your mod, a schematic, and instructions? I just got an Ibanez TSA15 and it needs to wake up. Keep up the good work.
I’ve got a long post over on the marshall forum about it with a schematic. I could potentially come up with a parts kit but I’m weary about supplying it to other people when I don’t know what their skill level is. Modding on PC board amps takes some real patience and care.
Nice vídeo!! Wish mine has more volume. I really like the fact that is clear all the way and gets bolder as it gets louder, but it could me more louder. I dont want it to have an earlier breakup, dont want that tweed character. What kind of mod you suggest??
There are a few things but the biggest thing is that these amps have no negative feedback loop which cleans up the signal as the value of the resistor in the loop increases. I finished more mods this morning actually and am finally fully happy with it. I am working on a schematic and a write-up explaining how to do the mods.
Hi! This is a great video!, I have an ibanez TSA30 and I need to replace the output transformer, do you know which transformer could be used as a replacement ? It does not have to be the original, just be the proper one for 30watts, thank you!
I'm considering attempting these mods but I don't have experience modifying amplifiers. I am also considering a retube as I know the stock tubes are chinese and of dubious quality. Would adding quality tubes remedy the issue of the amp being sterile-sounding at lower volumes?
Not really. I haven’t put much thought into which part made the biggest tonal difference. I really need to add an addendum to this mod. Just this past week I pulled the chassis out again and did a few more little mods - namely pulling the little bass/treble/volume tone stack board out and changing all of the values on that board to match JTM45 spec, which is essentially what this mod is. I do have to say that since doing these mods there is nearly no clean anymore. Partially because the Volume pot on this amp has the wrong taper, and potentially also the slope resistor. But boy does it ever kick ass now. Haha
@@vertheinguitarworks3844 thanks for the fast reply! Given that I really want to preserve the clean sound , I'll probably start by putting in quality preamp tubes and go from there. I'll report the results in the comments here and probably in that thread on the Marshall forum. The clean channel is where this amp shines and since it takes pedals so well and I have some good ODs, I can always go that route for higher gain.
