Ibn Khaldun, born in Tunis, Tunisia, 1332-1395 C.E. Ibn Khaldun is universally recognized as the founder and father of Sociology and Sciences of History. He is best known for his famous 'Muqaddimah,' (Prolegomena).
Four hundred years before Auguste Comte's 'invention' of sociology, Ibn Khaldun unveiled his 'science of culture'. His contribution to history is marked by the fact that he emphasized sociological factors governing the apparent events. His contributions accorded him with the title 'the real father of sociology'.
The "Muqaddimah" is considered one of the most phenomenal works on the philosophy of history ever written. Ibn Khaldun also wrote a definitive history of Muslim North Africa, as well as an account of his eventful life in an autobiography entitled Al-ta'rif bi Ibn Khaldun.
