PRESS/HOLD CENT/FIX!!! *THAT* was the puzzle piece I was missing to get the FIXed display to follow me as I scrolled off the edge of the scope display. Thank you!

Tom, this series is great. Your videos for the 705 and the 7300 have helped me to understand how these complicated devices work more than any other source of information. There is one thing to add to this one: When setting the band edges on the spectrum scope, the maximum width displayed on the scope is 1 MHz. This means it is impossible to set the scope to show the whole band in the higher-frequency bands.

Hi. First, thank you for the kind words. Yes, that's a good point that I should have mentioned in the video. 12M is the last band where you can see the entire band. 10 meters and up you have to pick the 1MHZ segments that you want. It would have been nice if Icom allowed a larger sweep, maybe with less resolution at least on 2M and 70cm. In some recent RU-vid videos I've seen on the IC-905, it looks like they have fixed that. Of course, that radio only covers bands that are several to many MHZ wide. Well done! Extremely helpful compared to the manual. There is something you've overlooked, which is the use of the scope on unpopulated bands to determine at a glance if and where there is activity, or for finding a very weak signal in the noise. This actually may well be the principle use of the scope on 144 and 432 weak signal VHF, and also even more so on the microwave bands with my new IC-905. After watching your videos, I was able to make the changes to see a very weak 432 beacon signal which was not visible before. Thank you.

Thank you for the kind words. That is absolutely a great use for the spectrum display. I probably should have highlighted that. Enjoy that 905. Looks like a great radio. It's on my list, but probably not for a while yet.

another great video. My scope doesn't look as large as yours. my meter is below the fry while yours is left of it. Also the size of the numbers of the fry are quite large on my screen, your screen has the word D-STAR while mine has Digital ... so a different model here in Europe? Thanks for the kind words. I know the European and Japanese models are different. 4 meter band in Europe and only 2Mhz for 2 meters in Japan, as examples. Not sure about the displays. There has been a firmware update since that video was done. That could also be part of it.
