Configuration for data modes with USB sound card. This video may just save you some head scratching ;-) UPDATE: Full manual can be downloaded from goo.gl/U7UqJD
Excellent video. I've ran JT65 from it beta stages years ago. I ran it with my IC7700 with only 2 watts of power, I have just about got my DXCC. That's been over a year ago. I've since been burned out on JT65/9 so I have not been on it in quite some time. I do plan on getting an IC7300 but it will be a while and I have heard rumors that in later productions, it will sport a detachable face just as my IC7000. When that happens, I will get one for mobile operations. It'll be a great upgrade to my IC7000.
Just to let those that want Large Waterfalls and Spectrum. I sold my first IC 7300 because of the fact that it had a small screen and I love large Waterfalls and Spectrum, but then it dawned on me to get a T/R Switch made from MFJ called model 1708. This allows the same antenna to be shared between the ICOM IC 7300, while providing with the same antenna, a receive only by way of a relay locking out the SDR of your choice from getting fried by the IC 7300 when transmitting, because the relay protects the SDR. Now I can receive and transmit on the IC 7300, while at the same time I can receive on the FIFI SDR I built and Enjoy waterfalls on both the IC 7300 and my 23 Inch computer screen! It requires a mod to tie the Transmit and Antenna connector together to both receive on the IC 7300 and SDR at the same time, because natively the 1708 comes with it being deaf on the IC 7300 side. This takes care of that and allows dual reception.... So buy the IC 7300 and the 1708 and enjoy! Show less
Def. NO ALC in PSK and JT65/9. I set my USB Modulation to 33% and adjust the USB audio output give or take around level 50. Works well and just below ALC reading.
Thanks for the videos Tomasz. I'm waiting to take delivery of an IC7300 from ML&S at the end of April ;-) Can't wait to get it set up in my shack. 73 de David GI4FUM
In CW mode I guess triggering TX through any means will cause CW tone to be sent, so if you don't want that use other mode settings on the radio. In terms of "access denied" message this would depend on what OS you are using - Linux would be classic case - you need to set proper file permission on devices in /dev and/or be member of the groups that have write access. There may be also case of concurrent access and another app keeping the port open. This would also cause similar error on Windows AFAIK.
Hi great video. Are you using one or two data cables. If I start Commander and then start Winwarrable?? It gives me a flag that says the port is already in use. I noticed that you have both applications running at the same time.
In the video you clearly demonstrate using JT-65. But the JT-65 software called WSJT-X does not have any rig control menu settings for the ICOM 7300 yet. Can you please share via comment; How did you get JT-65 software to control the ICOM 7300? Thanks, Neal N6YFM
Good. I guess they have a point thinking about it. Input level is rather flat anyway so no need for ALC if signal is OK in the first place but if it's too high then ALC will bring it down. God point Andrew!
You need only single usb cable. Once psu is turned on (radio can still be off) 7300 will be in fact active and usb devices it exposes fully operational and etected by your computer. A sound card and a serial port would be two most important ones. Once this "usb-serial" port comes up, you will be able to turn the radio on by sending commands to it.
I was thinking the same yesterday... COM ports would be fine - Windows would give them different numbers and all done, but sound cards would have the same name I guess - could get messy or at least a bit awkward ;-)
Thanks David. BTW it comes up also in Linux, I tried stock Mint and it immediately picked up usb serial and audio devices but I'm yet to try if all works well.
Help! Did you ever get your IC-7300 working over the USB cable to a Windows 10 computer? I've been trying but have not been successful in getting the IC-7300 communicating with my PC. I have a Windows 10 PC and an iOS 10 Mac. My goal is to get Fldigi functioning but right now I'd settle for any digital program working.
Just saw your response. I've since been able to receive digital using HRD and DM??? (forgot what that part of the suite is called). I don't think the transmit is working correctly yet but will when I have some of that stuff called "time", just like you. The "send" triggers the transmitter but I don't think my outgoing levels are right.
I hope to have some time during Christmas to play around with this - got WIn10 tablet that I can use for testing but I didn't use HRD for years now - switched to DXLab and never looked back (ok ok, I still use N1MM for contesting).
The same as power for any other mode - press MULTI button next to top right corner of the screen and there's the control. The same can be done via commands sent to the radio.
Thanks David. BTW it comes up also in Linux, I tried stock Mint and it immediately picked up usb serial and audio devices but I'm yet to try if all works well.
