Lets make one thing clear. I am a hard core Kansas fan. I study them. Every note, every lyric, the harmonious blend of one instrument one to another. Also, the good and the bad that is Kansas. They are not a band that you just pick up an instrument and think "I will do a cover of this song" there is so much depth to their music. This is one of the best covers I have seen. Other than a bit more of Phil's difficult drumming, you guys nailed it I am a fan!
Scott Calvert I agree Scott. I have studied these guys for the last 40 years? (Wow, are we THAT old?) No one like them-EVER. Extremely difficult to cover the more intricate songs, and yet still capture the essence of them at the same time. Must be a moving experience to perform them. My band could handle Carry On, but not much else, lol.
Same here Scott.....i agree even down to the way the singer tightens up his notes at each end, with a unique Steve Walsh effect!!! i love it love it love it !!!
To the other members of ourvirtualkansas: Congrats and thanks to all of you for letting me be involved on this project. When I first saw your videos, I couldn't believe my eyes and ears! What a THRILL it is to now be working with all of you fine musicians. I've never been on a You Tube video, or any other cybermedia before this. Kansas music is a unique and moving experience either to listen to or perform! It's part of me. Long live Kansas! Len - justsingit72 vocalist
Man, I never heard anyone do Kansas so on point, if I closed my eye’s & not have known it was a cover I would have sworn it was Kansas especially on the vocal’s, I hope you consider doing way more of their material !
Wow. I really couldn't be any more impressed with the quality of this than I am. It really is absolutely top drawer. Those vocals are astoundingly good and it takes some guts to cover Steve Walsh in his prime. Much kudos.
You guys appreciate great 70's music as it shows. You guys do some of the best covers ever heard on youtube. The world appreciates what your doing. Keep it alive my friends!
You never will be the same of 1975 Kansas, but no one will ever, even 2012 Kansas. Saying that, this is the best homage to Kansas I've ever seen. Having seen them live in Salina, Kansas in 1975, '76, '78, and '79 had changed my life, and if you can capture that spirit, especially "Icarus-Borne On Wings of Steel", you've made an old Kansan proud.
@rushyeskansas Thanks SO MUCH!!! You couldn't have said it any better. That's what we're about.....the spirit of KANSAS! As one of the new guys, I'm honored to be a part of it. Take care and keep up the spirit! Len
see......this is what it was and always has been about. This is one of the best comments anyone could bestow on our projects. Early Kansas and their music and passion. Thnx so much Tom...thnx for understanding what its like to hear and feel what the music of Kansas really is... an experience.
Wow, what a great job on this cover. As someone who has seen Kansas Live at least 13 times, you guys nailed it. The band rock's and the vocals are amazing.
As usual, i am at a loss for words ... simply fantastic! I have to admit, I didn´t expect less from you guys! The other 2 videos were already great, but this one is the best for now. Every musician and the singers with the real spirit of Kansas ... so i think just Kansas can play it more "Kansas" because they are KANSAS!!! :)))) ... congrats to everbody ... keep ´em coming!
one classy act and a GREAT cover of a GREAT band... the fact that you guys are international and produce this kinda quality speaks for itself , not to mention your obvious GREAT taste in music... keep bring these blissful musical miracles outa nowhere to Somewhere to Elsewhere :-) Kansas and VKB ROCK !!!
Nice work everyone. The violinist is a standout with superb intonation. The video is really good Roland. Nice vocals too...haven't seen Len before this video.
Hey, Thanks, Rob! We're still reeling after watching Steve's final night with Kansas! I appreciate the comment! We have some more videos if you want to give em a listen.....Carry On!!
To the other members: Thank you all for make it happen! What a gift to watch this cover over and over again! Keep the groove guys! You're awesome! :) George - organ, synth (ourvirtualkansas)
That was so good , just knowing that there still may be a chance for this generation after all when it comes to music, is a big relief.. as a keyboardist of 45 years and a natural born sound man , the mix needs a little adjusting.. couldn't hear the kick drum or any tom Tom's, violin and guitar we're over riding a lot.. but still was a joy to hear a Kansas tune done so well..
Wow, just seen I haven't commented on this one yet! Or did I do it on Facebook...? Whatever, I'll just say it again: This isn't just some random Kansas cover; It's THE Kansas cover! You couldn't have given the band a better credit than this. Rock on guys, I really can't wait for your next vid :-) Michael.
At the beginning I've had the "goose skin" or something like that feeling, you know when all the hairs are up. I knew Kansas before you were born(except for the singer maybe) so I can say: GREAT JOB! And I know by George(Gyuri) how complicated to make it realise. You made a great video as well! Keep on guys!!!
outstanding ! I've just found these feeds.... Kerry Livgren is a genius and to cover Kansas like that is not something you hear everyday. Len, let's see, I've found you covering Steve Walsh and Greg Lake masterfully...... I'm gonna keep searching.
To all my virtual band mates!! I want to share with you happiness and pride that I feel in seeing the end result of this masterpiece. I congratulate all of you for the excellent work done, while I thank the opportunity you have given me to share with all of you, great musicians, my love and passion for music. @skudmunky Acoustic violin gives this cover the authentic Kansas spirit, Thnks for comment Mark. Looking forward to the next project, take care all Jorge - violinist Long Live Kansas!!
@BRYONJOHN Thanks Brian for your compliment, very appreciative, even more, coming from a fellow violinist, saw your vids on your channel and I liked a lot your work. All "OurVirtualKansas" crew are great musicians and friends, I'm enjoying this journey with them. Greetings from Spain, Jorge
What a voice man!! And great Instrumentalists, fantastic! Please forget my message (embarrising), you do not need anybody else, a great cover!!! Steve Walsh would be deeply impressed! Keep on going! w.k.r. Lothar
This is amazing! I've been a hardcore Kansas fan since the 1970s. You really honor them with your performances. Thank you! (BTW, perhaps it has been asked elsewhere, what software do you use to create these videos. I'd like to learn.)
Aaron Kelson Thanks Aaron.... We're both hardcore! We all have different software... but It starts with the audio... Drums, then probably keys, and then all the rest.... Then we make a video to go with the audio.... It can take months... But it's worth every second! Make sure to check out all of our videos!
Aaron Kelson Thanks Len for the clarifications. Actually, the final video is cut together using some kind of non-linear (multi-track) commercial video editing software. I'm not advertising anything here, but suffice to say I used a rather old version with only basic features, along with some free stuff for pre-processing some of the videos. But there are plenty of easy-to-use, reliable, inexpensive products available by now, just take the time to find one that suits your needs.
....throu-out my life, growing up,ect.. I wondered/worried that no one whould ever be able to hear/feel what it was like to experience early Kansas... I worry no more! :)
All of these comments praising this cover: I just can't believe it. I have been a Kansas fans for 42 years. I have seen them over 50 times alive, and I am probably one of the most hard-core Kansas fans around. I am also a classically and jazz trained pianistand keyboard player. I have also been playing guitar for over 35 years, self taught. I have to tell you, and I am not trying to be an asshole or anything, that this offer is absolute garbage. You cannot cover a song like this; it's belongs toKansas, and no one should ever even try to cover it. It's ridiculous. There are some songs by some bands that just cannot be covered. And this is definitely one of them. These are good musicians, doing a very bad thing in my opinion.
Thomas Edison tried many, many times before he invented a light bulb that would work.... We are ALL on a mission to become better... If you find the music on this video less than perfect... then you are right.... But we ALL had a blast making it... Not easy work.... After all, each one of us are doing their parts alone with just a track to listen to, and then try to put it all together.... If we'd had a budget of thousands of dollars.... then maybe it would be up to your standards..... But we've had many great compliments from many folks.... Including members of Kansas themselves!
Len Audsley Then I say kudos to you my friend! Like I said before, you are all very good musicians! Of course, the most important thing of all, is that you worked your ass off, and had a hell of a good time doing it. After all, isn't that what it's all about? I am very happy to see that you have so much pride in your work. Keep it up!
Jerry Schares Do you have a college education? Clearly not. First of all , I was using the mic and not typing. Second, I have no idea what you're talking about. My comments were clear and not meant to "hurt" anyone. Yes, I am educated. I have two master degrees in music and I am working on my doctorate. My educated hypothesis? Do you need me to explain both an explanation why that phrase is correct asa well as what it means? Lastly, my manhood? All I have to say is this: seek help immediately. Clearly you have anger management problems, and I also suggest returning to school to further your education. You might learn something!
Short of Kansas performing themselves, this is the best rendition of this song I have heard. In fact, its the ONLY rendition of it I have heard. Kansas is far too intricate a band for anyone but true professionals to cover.
Remember this while your still alive!... We still love, and Musicians Strive to play Wagner and Tchicovsky.. :) 150 years latter. These songs will be played ... hundreds of years avter we're gone.
@tinman3012 @dgcmusi Thanks for your kind words, I think, to make possible a good result, you have to love and have fun with what you do. Jorge - violinist
