fastest way to level up is ABC -> Always Be Crafting :) even when you are hunting or farming you want to queue up as much of crafting items. I leveled up to level 30 ( tier 4 ) in 9.5 hours. I planted stuff in the ground and went hunting. I was trying to powerlevel tho, so if you want a more chill experience and then you can take it slow and unlock stuff as you go. Great content btw, subbed :)
Yep - also all that oxite, salt etc you ran past is all great exp. Salt is "light weight" comparably and stacks to 500 and right at the start while looking for "storage" you could have dumped a bunch of stuff in the pod since you were not going to ride it back any time soon. - all that stone & wood etc your mining are great materials for arrow spam crafting and something you can use up over a period of time.
I've played Icarus off and on since the beginning. Had a sever going for two years where I built a stone copy of a German castle. But watching you play this from the get go again helped me decide to delete my characters and start over. I am amazed at how good this game has become when you do that. I was too used to playing it as an "expert". This playthrough was a good wakeup call.
the way you allow us to be on that journey with you made me buy the game and all is dlc's - the story telling aspect and the soothing voice is like being taken in hand to follow along ... if YT ever failed you . iam sure audible will be waiting for you with open arms
Thank you! I have a new mic set up the newer parts so hopefully the narration gets clearer. Very happy to know new players are finding the game through the videos.
Personally, I really like all the raw, unedited footage. If you do the edited stuff, please release the unedited versions as well! Love your commentary. Very easy and nice to watch!! ❤
I'm a new player, and watching your vid makes me understand many parts of the game. Thanks. I can't believe that I've never heard of this game. If it wasn't for me browsing the Steam sale randomly, I wouldn't even see it. It won't even appear in my discovery list despite me playing lots of similar titles.
I love this game, so excited for the series. The storage chest took damage because it was across from an open window. You have to put shutters on windows to prevent storm damage. It only seems to impact certain items, like bedrolls, crates, morters etc,
You got a realy calm and nice voice, matching with the gameplay Fell asleep halfway through the episode, but rewatched the episode, after getting up Not something if done before I love survival base builder games myself as well, and i will definitivly get that one as well👍 Keep up the good work, and i'm looking forward to the next episodes👍🍀
Looks like a great survival game! I really wonder why I've never seen or heard of it before. PS: The time you take in your intros is a testament to your confidence. And it looks to be working for ya. A good reminder for me to relax. Cause I'm like "I played this before, and... ("ok, viewers dont have patience for this") ...uh, let's just jump in!" 😬
Just discovered the game recently and stumbled across your channel! This video has been a huge help getting started and has made the game more enjoyable being that I have limited time for gaming after work! I get to watch/listen to your content while at work and put what I've learned from you into action when I get home! Am I detecting and old Ark player looking for the 'tek points'? lol. I loved that game for years so in some ways Icarus feels familiar, yet still very much it's own game! I love it so far!
That's great to hear! Thanks so much for watching, and glad to hear you're enjoying the game as well. And yes I did play a bit of ark before Icarus haha
It's so true, it's much more enjoyable to start again when you've already learned things the hard way.. I think of it like practicing for my next playthrough.
Bone arrows are SO much more effective than stone arrows! At least until you can afford to make Flint arrows, but Bone are the way to go! Great playthrough though, brother!
I almost have 100hrs in and im loving this game and your series is exactly what I have been looking for. Also for why the chest was breaking im pretty sure its from your windows. You can put actual window pieces in and open them and that should fix the issue(I know the series is already done but for anyone watching it late like me). Another solution which is on that I prefer is using half hood sloped roofs with and overhand all the way around as the storm will only hit the roof then. Its like having an overhang make the storm not target anything else.
Oh man, between you and a buddy of mine talking about Icarus..I'm downloading it again. I might even purchase the latest DLCs that have happened since I stopped playing. I think I like the idea of starting the persistent map like you did here. I do enjoy this game so much.
This is just what I've been looking for! Played in early access but found it tideous to start over in every mission and have not played until recently when I realised Open World was available. You are doing a great job, I did not even notice problems with window frames. Keep up the good work, looking forward to watch the next one! 😁
I don't know why people keep assuming that "something isn't pleasing to watch because of the video length". If people are willing to binge tv shows and anime that are 23-55 minutes long, they can handle a RU-vid video that's equal length, or greater. I personally prefer non-edited videos as I want to be able to see the full experience. I find that, too often (all the time, at this point), people who edit their videos skip parts of the game and then don't even mention it but it may have been crucial for anyone who hasn't seen the game. Pravus, for example, has some pretty heavy handed editing where it's like "I should build some *jump cut* Let's go hunting *jump cut*". Like dude, I'm here to watch you play, not to watch the cliff notes version.
Agreed, you can always skip parts if you don't want to watch, but you can't pull the missed parts out of thin air. I enjoy the un-edited version also. Sometimes it even reminds me that some content creators will go into a "creative" mode so as not to do the grind.
I like simple games, like warbrokers, partially because I play on an old office desktop and have no interest in buying a machine just for gaming. Good thing there are people like you - I never knew Icarus existed, and I get to enjoy this game without actually ever playing it. Thanks dude!
Nice, I did a similar thing a while back (I don't stream) but it was no workshop gear, that was a lot tougher on me than I thought it would be but totally fun
Man your channel is very good, a lot to learn about this game. Can you help me understand what's the difference between missions, survival and outposts?
Thanks for checking the video out! Mission mode is a standalone mission, anything you craft on planet will be erased once you complete the mission. Workshop gear will stay with your character though. Survival/open world is a persistent map where nothing is ever erased, your base/items/etc stay on the map forever (you can't take them to other maps though). You can create a "mission board" and complete all of the missions available in mission mode in open world as well. Outpost is kind of like "creative mode" where there are no major threats like bears, ores re spawn after a set time etc. More of a relaxed mode on a very small map.
The "Prospector Edition" is about $70 when not on sale, that is the only DLC that really matters with the map expansions. The others are creative mode maps or cosmetic items.
I would definitely say give open world a try. You can do most of the missions from the mission mode inside Open World. In missions you drop in with nothing and when you leave, all of your bases/crafted items will disappear.
Never even heard of this game before, but it looked like it was right up my alley so I went ahead and grabbed it. Was having a great time playing it right up until I settled on a location to start setting up a proper base. Then I discovered that structural integrity was a thing and it completely ruined the game for me. They need to stop including structural integrity in these games unless they can figure out how to implement it in a way that actually makes some kind of engineering sense and is remotely realistic.
Can you combine the mission side with the open world? I like to have a purpose in survival games- aside from just surviving. A story line or quest line motivates me.
Almost all missions can be completed in Open World mode. You need to craft a "CONT4CT" device and you will be able to access the "operations" screen which lets you take on the missions from mission mode inside your open world.
@@craftavenuecreations4931 It definitely motivates you to build up a base and get better gear. In mission mode, you'll probably try to complete it as fast as possible since all your gear and your base gets erased when you end the mission. In open world, all your gear will stick with you no matter how many missions you complete, and you can design a nice base that won't disappear as well.
just started watching, so far so good :) only thing I did, watched "episode" 2 before 1 ahahah maybe add a number in the thumbnail pictures ? maybe like in the top right corner? ( maybe that is just me but I like seeing the sequences and numbers, easier to track and watch ) great playthrough !
You mentioned the predators at 1 point. You could have picked up a few corpses and carried them. Drop them where you think would be a good spot and skin and take materials except the meat. Wait for predators in the area to come to you. - nvm. got to the point in the video where you mention possibly doing that.
The first episodes of this series are the standard game only, the "Olympus" map. The two main DLCs contain two different maps - Styx and Prometheus. The bulk of this series will take place on the DLC prometheus map. There are also some cosmetic DLCs, but the main ones are the two map expansions.
How do you bring these new items into an existing open world? And can I just quit to desktop from an open world and have these new items stay permanently on me?
You need to create an "Orbital Exchange Interface" which is a tier 2 item. From there you can go into the workshop and request equipment to be delivered down.
Yes you can, but only in the space station. So if you are dropping into a new map you can do it before dropping. If you want to use a new suit on the same open world, you need to go into your pod and back up to the station and equip the suit when you drop back down. Be careful though, any items/equipment you crafted on planet in your inventory will be destroyed when you go into the pod, so be sure to place everything in a storage box first and go back up with nothing equipped (other than workshop gear).
Before to start playing on Open World i always see how many deep veins there are close to the area i wanna stay. If there are not i restart a New Open World till i have them. XD
you don't have to keep mashing your harvest button you can literally hover over the item you want to pick up and then hold the half is button down and it will collect everything you come across
Regarding farming the REN, the first couple of runs netted 36 each trip, but then nothing. Not sure if they recently patched this method of farming. Am I doing something wrong?
I'm not sure, it still seems to be working for me (just tested it). If you want the full 50 you need to hit the "hardcore" check box in addition to hard mode.
This early on in the playthrough I didn't chop them just because it takes so many hits, and you get an chunk of bonus XP for felling the initial tree so I focused on doing that.
Other than self inducting Goals....i dont see any lore nor any "quest"...or why i should be spending my lofe alone .... These games are just loot, grind rinse and repeat without having an actual goal or timed events... I am a big fun of grinding in survival games...not a fan of nothing happens until you make it happens; yes it does gives the, build you're own future vibes...but other than that... there's not much. I would rather like if the devs add a ton of Lore or a solid quest line; maybe the video i choose to analyze the game isn't the right one ( this video) but considering, not even you are talking about Quests( except one time at the very beginning), make me think as if the game is an unfinished product. On the + side , crafting, grinding and the visually pleasing world are on point.
There is a quest system in this game, with a set path of quests to follow. I end up completing the questline in the "Prometheus" map in the later episodes !
I tryed your trick to get easy 50$ but i have to craft, hunt, build shelter and bedroll.. its not so easy peasy :( EDIT: ha... you were right... just leave capsule, get back inside and dont mind mission goals...
The video is good, but i wish you damn had showen what to do with the first mission you were talking about, because you say it takes 40 sec to do, and you forking cant gather sticks, wood, Level up, unlock wood rag Torch, craft a shelter, bedroll, interact and launch the dropship in 40 sec. So Thumbs down alone for this.
I could have explained it better. You do not need to complete any objectives, simply drop down to the planet, get off the ship, then immediately jump back into the ship and leave.
Icarus is still bad , what they presented and the garbage that we received , and after that , they came with 100 updates and still is far away of what they presented , soo , is a big scam , I really love the survival games , and this gamr broke my heart and I will never heal from this emotional damage.
It's really fun to watch someone who has a decent idea of how to progress start a new playthrough. I'm really enjoying it. Everyone has their own things but I'll make one suggestion. One nice way to have all-weather early storage is the firepit. I takes 100 stone and 25 wood and has significantly more storage than the campfire. I use it, early game, as a place to store ore outside the caves so I don't have to fill up space in my base before I have the furnace. I use the stone I have to mine to break into the caves and place it right outside. Also helps me know I've visited that cave before. Just a thought. Keep it coming.👍
Thanks for the tip! I already recorded the second video where (spoilers) I got a SIMPL quest reward of a bunch of new storage, so I will be good for now haha. But great idea for when I drop into Prometheus.
Man, I was confused initially following your advice about the Beachead: Recon mission because I'm like "This guy is joking me, I gotta finish all these tasks?!" Nope. It's just like you said. Drop in, drop out. Thanks man!
I learned by beating the game 100% blind doing maximum amount of hardcore missions on my first playthrough. Some missions are BRUTAL without guides or prior knowledge of whats going on lol. At this point I have nearly 950 hrs in game and have enjoyed open world but you just dont get that amazing feeling of unlocking and using new starter gear every time you land. I think that is a huge turn off for people when it comes to the game because they want to experience that kind of progression without having to rebuild their base every time and I definitely understand but I highly recommend anyone new to play the missions first before hopping into open world. All the missions seem extremely easy if you have no experience but you see how tedious and rough they get when you have to build that cabin on the hill. I think you have to hit tier 3 in tech just to complete it and it's in the first branch of missions. Even then once you complete a few missions and unlock a numch of tech with new gear going in building your base every time really isn't that bad. I personally don't enjoy open world content for this game but I will watch anyways lol
Keep at it! The game gets much easier once you know what to look for. If you want to watch through my series I think it shows a good path for progression for a fresh player.
I just finished this video and I hope that the next ones are the same (whole gameplay without editing). This is great! Perfect video to watch on second monitor while playing. Great work! Your window minimizing wasn't annoying for me, I imagine that for you it is way more annoying but I think that in the next episodes you probably already have this already figured it out
my main complaint is shared with most others. I love the game, the idea and progression. But I hate that the world is basically earth with no O2. the alien world came with a price tag of additional $30. something that should have been implemented earlier in the game for free.
Did they debuff jerky? Early game the drying rack was always super useful because jerky - especially the soft meat jerky and prime jerky, or maybe it was prime jerky with cooked soft and cooked prime meat - had good buffs and it lasts forever without spoiling. That was always one of my early game foods. You just need baby deer or rabbits which are easy to get around water.
I was actually really looking forward to playing this game, when I'd finished RDR2. Was gonna' buy it on Steam and then saw that it was 170Eur for the lot. So I moved on to the next one in my backlog.
The 170 pack includes a bunch of DLC you don't need, like the outposts which are like creative maps. The "Prospector Edition" is the base game plus the two map expansions
I personally use the axe over knive in fights. there is even a talent in the tools tree for it and than you outperform an unbuffed knive easily in durability and damage. Its less points than having to dump all the points into the knives tree. Oh and craft some bone arrows next time. that really matters in the damage. Stone arrows cant oneshot most of the animals, bone arrows do and it will be a while until longbow and iron arrows.
Thanks for the tip! I haven't really tried the axe in combat, I like the knife since its attack speed is so fast but I will test it. I'm super cheap with bones so I waited to upgrade until flint arrows in part three haha. Saving them all for epoxy
Thanks for the upload. I have had pretty good results with a triangle side-profile early base. Basically having the slanted roof extend to the floor. You still have the vertical walls, so you end up with an outer shell for the ground level. It means you just have the slanted upper roof and outer shell to repair.
I am thoroughly enjoying this playthrough. You have a calm speaking voice that is easy to listen to. Doesn't the campfire in a wooden structure risk catching it on fire?
Thanks so much! The campfire is safe on the floor as long as there's nothing too close next to it that can catch fire, including walls. Just keep it a little bit away and it should be fine.
Been looking for a Icarus Hardcore one life series and found you Ive only seen episode one but in all the Icarus play through I rank you as number 1 keep up the awesome content
As a new player, I would probably say Olympus. It's very straightforward as far as mission progression goes, beautiful, overall a great start. Styx is similar to Olympus, but you need to complete certain missions in order to unlock the tunnels into different biomes & overall more dangerous. Prometheus is the hardest start by far, different resources only spawn in specific biomes which makes going to very dangerous areas a necessity to progress.
Good tip jumping into the first mission to gain Ren. I would recommend the mxr knife as well as you can skin anything with it and it doesn't constantly keep breaking on you.
@@sylvandryad6207for some drops its like land and do a few parts of the mission. The mission where you get to learn icarus i think you can drop down and then go up.
That way I can save my talent points for the main skill tree and spec into a few more things there. It only takes 1 extra solo point vs 3 or so in the main tree.
RU-vid recommended me your channel and I immediately subscribed. I thoroughly enjoyed your game play and was looking for such game play for a long time. I really appreciated the fact that you explained what you were doing and I have learned a lot from you. I also really, really appreciated that you do not swear as so many RU-vidrs do, which is a real put off. Thank you for starting a new play from level 0 even though you are a veteran. I am learning a lot from you. Great video, great game play; great relaxing voice. I am looking forward to watching your series and to learn more. Thank you for uploading 😍
How did you start over completely? I uninstalled using Revo Installer, deleting ALL my files related to the game. When I reinstalled, everything was back.
Glad you figured a way out! I also wanted to keep my old progress, so what I did is create a 2nd steam account and did "family game sharing" to that account.
Killing creatures is the fastest way I level up. Yes the bandage trick works in a safer way, but getting the knife and bow are always my first crafting blueprints.
thanks for the series having just started playing this game I appreciate the tips as I watch u learned alot for sure subbed and will watch the rest of the series
I just started a new character. A female one. She was playing hard mode. But I think they have made it more difficult since you did it. I accidently burned down my base. Then I started a new one. playing normal, and the same spot you are my deep ore is Iron!!!!
Ooh, nice! That sounds like fun. It is definitely a bit harder now, they added a lot of new systems like water filtration, crops getting damaged etc. IRON! At least it isn't something like Salt haha. I'm sure you'll find a good copper one
Me and my friend just bought the game today. Wish I would have watched this first lol. We’ve been playing for hours and are lvl 6. Playing open world and haven’t touched the missions.
Really enjoyed this episode, will try to see the rest. Just started hard with no gear myself, but buckled under and did some shopping at lvl 30. Very nice intro on HC mission exploit, amazed it's still working. Stuff you got are bare bones QoL stuff, so good call! Should mention turning off kill-cam, and I would keybind Loot All button, I use "V", try it...
Your voice volume a bit up please, and adding some plain background music from free spotify or something would be awsome as its quite silent. If you can play a bit with mic mixer to get mic tone bit better that would be great also ;) Supporting you ! Good content
to fix the window problem you got to setting and make it full screen not windowed lul also you made me so happy being on this playthrough with you aim subbing and buying this game!!!!!! thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice vibe, thank you so much. I got the icarus itch but i am away from my gaming PC and your videos were spot on. I find it very interesting how you optimize your blueprints and talents. Why didn't you go for the hunting talent for animal bars? It seems way faster than the solo one.
Thank you! It's a very fun game, hopefully you get a chance to play again soon. The solo skill tree and normal skill tree have separate point pools, so I'm saving the main skill tree points since I can get the solo health bar one. I could use some respec points and grab the health bars sooner in the normal tree, but I'm just going to hold off. I end up getting the health bars in part four coming soon :)
First time here and I absolutely love Icarus, It is a badass game. So you've got a new subscriber because I love watching those game from very very start to finish...... If there is a finish, right ? Take care, see ya soon. ~Jonny5🥁
what happens if I leave the open world to do missions, I kinda went to open world straight at first and have no clue what will happen if I leave the open world.
You can leave the open world any time and come back without losing progress. Just be sure to unequip EVERYTHIGN and put it in a box, any non-workshop gear will be deleted from your characer's inventory when leaving the prospect. Also, you technically don't need to leave the open world at all if you want to do both mission and open world mode. YOu can just start a new mission on your character and have them in a mission prospect as well as your open world save etc.
😄 Well it is a level 0 character and no missions completed except the tutorial. I talk about my strategy in the beginning, basically I just farmed the tutorial mission for 50 ren a run and got some basic workshop gear.
