never heard that before, but all instructors are different. Mine was a real bitch and failed pretty much everyone except me that day, even though she tried to cheat me. I have it on camera. She didn't space the cones after checking my turn radius. She left it the same as the 250 cbr that failed before me. I was on my 1100 Cruiser. First pass I lightly brushed a cone with the back of my heel. Didn't even move it. 2nd pass I made it but it was tight. Didn't know why until I watched it later. She also had me do the panic stop right on a painted line that ran diagonally across the test area (different location) 1st time my rear tire sort of chirped, not even locked. 2nd time was fine. I told her it was the painted line. She said the roads have painted lines too, I told her I was smart enough not to try and panic stop on top of one.

That's the dirt biker in him. First time on a street bike he kept wanting to plant his foot on sharp turns. That's a good way to break ankles, legs...everything. He got that out of his system fast.

the distance is determined by your uturn radius when they get you to walk the bike at the beginning. You walk a uturn and where your front tire lands there's colored dots. They use a yard stick and measure to the next dot. it lands on a color (let's say red) and then they move the slalom cones to the red dots. The wider your uturn radius, the farther the cones get spaced for the slalom.

Probably not, but you should get them to work, for your safety.

The slow ride portion? You are to keep pace with the instructor walking. I asked mine if they felt like going for a jog.

No they don't. I've seen several riders pull up alone. If anyone asks , they rode there with you and left for coffee

Don't get me started on ICBC! There's many variables such as experience and location but the stupidest thing I've ever dealt with is the rates based on engine size. 111cc - 400cc =>Rate class 311 401cc - 750cc => 312 751cc - 1150cc => 313 1151cc + => 314 So my nephew's GSXR-600 and my wife's FZ6 which can both spank the hell out of my 1100 VStar cruiser pays nearly half the basic insurance I do because my engine is bigger. Basic ICBC insurance on the 600cc bike is about $600 per year, my bike about $1200 If you want additional coverage for theft and comprehensive get it thru a private company like Megan Fitzpatrick, it's way cheaper and covers more.

Just bought a 300cc. 250$ for 4 months with 7 years safe driving (though no fire/damage/comprehensive) just basic liability 1 million. So for one year it would be 750$ for me. If you want the other goodies better off going with beacon or another company on top of the liability through ICBC. To put that into perspective I pay roughly 2,500$ a year just to insure my car (with comprehensive) Even with comprehensive a motorcycle is way cheaper for me. Anything above 750cc and it's an absolute joke though for insurance costs.

+Becki Reay Cone spacing for slalom is determined by the walk around uturn. Your front tire lands on or between coloured markings on the pavement, and that determines where the cones go. This GSXR has a really wide turning radius so the cones were set 3.5 meters apart. If your uturn is 3 meters or less the cones are 2.75 meters apart 3- 4m = 3m 4-5m = 3.25m 5-6m - 3.5m 6-7m = 3.75m 7-8m = 4m

I ride a Drz-400 and doing the straddled walking U-turn is going to be difficult. I’m pretty much tippi-toes with both legs and I just don’t want to mess with the suspension geometry just yet.

yes. right, left, stop. they go thru it real quick. Also make sure all your lights work and that you don't fumble around looking for the horn, hi beam switch or signals.

I've read the ICBC examiners manual and it lays out this exact course in it. I know it's the same in Nanaimo , Duncan and Victoria.

They test you at the beginning on hand signals, and the controls on your bike. Turn Signals, high beam low beam, horn, front brake , rear brake. Make sure all your lights work and your horn.

As long as it's not stalling and you can slip the clutch while keeping some revs up you'll be fine.
