The ninth prosecution witness in the Ruto-Sang case at the International Criminal Court has admitted that he received close to 2 million shillings ahead of testifying against deputy president William Ruto. Even though the witness the money was from the witness protection unit of the ICC , Ruto's lawyer Karim Khan sought to prove to the trial chamber that there were individuals and organizations that ensured witnesses who gave information implicating Ruto were handsomely rewarded. And as Sylvia Chebet now reports, the defence believes it's the allure of money that motivated this witness and others to testify against the deputy president.
