Love my diesel for longer days on the ice there is nothing like hot dry air. The run time on a diesel heater with a big lithium battery is unmatched as well as the space savings cause your heater is outside. But for a short time fishing nothing beats the portability and ease of a buddy heater. Love that you’re trying new things and aren’t just a fud about ice fishin.
About Jack Links, the farm out in WI is pretty neat. I drive by it sometimes on my way out fishing or if I'm going camping. The pasture is huge, rolling green hills, and all the cattle seem really happy to be there. It's a great company and a beautiful location.
Jay, you should put your air intake tube inside the tent so that you are heating warmer air. It will make the heater way more efficient and keep the temp in the tent higher at lower settings.
Better yet just move the heater inside. That's how I run mine. You will use 1/2 the power and 1/4 the fuel to maintain the same (or higher) temps. And you can ditch all those ducts! Just wrap the exhaust pipe and run it under the skirt.
Atta be Jay. Another quality video. Dreaming of open water kayak fishing and then this. Gets me eager for ice fishing despite these warm southern Ontario temps
There is probably a bunch of comments about this but I’ve many videos with those diesel heaters and when it’s really cold they struggle . The hack appears to be to run the exhaust outside the tent and have the unit inside or add to the intake hose run it inside the tent so that the unit is recirculating the already warm air as apposed to having to heat the outside air . Merry Christmas and all the best in the new year
to save yourself some noise in the background as well as fuel and battery you can route the fresh air intake with a tube in the tent as well. This allows the heater to basically recirculate the air in the tent and has to work less at heating the cold air and allows for lower settings which should benefit you all around
Get yourself a kerosene handpump. Keeps it mostly off your hands and just have gloves for you when you need to mess with the cap. If you can take the noise seems like a sweet setup.
Hey Jay absolute love those little diesel heaters!!! One thing I did though was I rapped up the exhaust pipe with two layers of exhaust wrap!!! You should definitely try some on yours!!! It definitely won’t get quite as hot with a couple layers of some good quality exhaust wrap!!! And if you do definitely take a bucket of some water in it and then unroll the exhaust wrap and just let it soak for 5 to 10 minutes and then when that is done soaking you can start on what ever end you would like to and you definitely want to pull it as tight as you can so that it will form nicely around the exhaust!!! This also will help the wrap to stay on longer!! Now if you get some exhaust wrap and the package says no need to soak in water but I have never went without soaking in water!! It definitely helps to keep everything nice and tight!!! The other thing you need to do is either get an extension piece of exhaust pipe or definitely don’t point the exhaust towards the airflow in!! If you do it can suck in the fumes and can cause a high reading for carbon monoxide gas and you definitely don’t want that to happen!!! Well I hope this helps you out!!!
Amazing video yet again! Good job moving the mats! Love the diesel heater for sleeping. Everything is dry in the morning. We keep it inside with thru hull exhaust out the propane hole. Definitely too loud for audio this way, we switch to buddy during the day.
Get an inflator/deflator for your mattress. They are small, rechargeable, store in your mattress bag. Loved the pike. Picked up my pb last year on a tiny tik minnow. Approx 42". Barelygot it through the 8" hole. We could see it through the ice like you did. Took our pictures and pit her back. Keep up the good work
You will like the Vevor diesel heater its awesome i built mine so you can run the exhaust threw the propane hose outlet to keep the unit inside better efficiency 👍🏻
Sir, you can change out your fuel cap to a different style of that has a metal pressure relief and can twist closed. Also if it's really cold duct your air inlet into the tent it will save you on fuel. Tight lines sir!
Been using a desil heater and ice tent for camp while hunting in northern ab for 2 years. Can't wait to use it for ice fishing!!! But I will say , the power is a pain in the bottom
A sleeping mat is key for sleeping on a cot. I'd definitely recommend a higher quality one at some point. It's almost as good as bed if you get the right may. I bought a 3" cabelas mat and have never regretted the purchase yet.
Jay , when I get gas on my hands I use ZEST SOAP in the lake water, usually do. It twice and gas smell is gone and it also seems like when using live bait catch more after using ZEST. Let me know how it works for you. Keep up the great videos
Still waiting for the freeze to happen probably have to drive North 4 hours , can’t wait to try the new scissor kick I bought from the Toronto ice show, awesome video Jay 🎣
Great video per usual Jay, I really like my Vevor diesel heater also. I use mine for a dual purpose, (heating my work shop space and my enclosed trailer) if we ever get good ice I may be using it on the lake.
I ran a diesel heater last year. It's much better for ur health no 3 pm nap 😴 😅. The noise isn't bad I'll take it knowing it's better for you. Gloves for fuel I felt the same about the smell of diesel.
Vevor is a good heater , you may want to get it set up inside your tent in colder temps ,,, warm intake air makes a huge deference in heater performance . This from experience.....
Looks like I got the right tent, now I need to get time off, if you ever feel the need to fish very northern Alberta let me know, and bring a snowmobile
Bout time you got a diesel heater! Bring a couple pairs of nitrile gloves for handling the diesel and look at using a hard pick up line installed on a fuel can to limit diesel spills and getting on your hands. This year I’m working on using some silicone oven mats to pass the hot exhaust out of my hub. Tight lines but you already are having a banger season…we’re jelly bro 😢
Jay,? Could you please make a video on how to handle fish? We’ve never caught a pike before and it looks like everybody finger hooks them in the gills to hold them? It might seem mundane but, newbie’s like me aren’t sure.
Awsome video , I thought I was gonna go to work but guess I'll wait till I finish the video 😅 I love how the you have the live scope thing on the screen
Your video is very interesting and impressive, the way to find fish in winter also surprised me to see how big the fish is, wish you a Merry Christmas 😄😄😊😊😃😃👍👍🤩🤩
Daaannnggg! That pike was epic! It looked so fun to fight❤ nice walleyes, too😊🤘👍 You were on top of the honey-hole for sure!🤘🤘🎣 SMASH THAT THUMB EVERYONE 👍👍👍👍😊 let's grow Jay's channel🤘
Great video Jay, planning my inaugural ice fishing run for Christmas Eve! I tried using one of those Diesel heaters last winter but I just didn't find it to be as good as the propane heaters. On a -10 night I found that it was barely keeping the insulated tent warm, and that was even with it recirculating the warmer air from inside the tent, and the extra hassle of setting up on the ice as well as carrying stinky Diesel fuel that would inevitably end up on your fingers just made it too much for me. Dry heat and less chance for monoxide is nice, but I'm sticking with propane.
