It didn't matter that we were already there, at the store, we had to *get home*, and they knew driving was only going to get more dangerous the longer we stayed open and it kept snowing. Just... Close 😐 Even if they were already there, you could still close the shop while the employees wait for the emergency services to clear the path. Put up a sign, write a post on social media, try to stop as many people from visiting as possible. That would've been the responsible thing to do

I am a Dairy Queen worker, who usually operates the drive through window since I’m best at being quick. No, our drive through doesn’t close even if it’s raining really harshly or any other bad weather. As someone who has been a store manager at multiple places, it's your job to make the call on wheather or not the store closes for bad weather. I've worked under many people that are terrible managers and make excuses like this. They care more about looking good to their employer and getting that bonus money instead of being worried about their employees. I will agree that many managers are asked if they can see if it gets worse in an hour or 2 then to update the higher ups to make a decision. I've found though you just have to be firm. Be firm in your decision and explain that it's for the safety of your crew. On multiple occasions I've shutdown a store against mall orders because of bad weather that we all knew about. I feel a good rule of thumb is if public transportation won't run in it then neither should you. If you can't think about your crew's safety then you have no business being in management. Without your team you don't have a job.
Ok but can we talk about how your employees were made to come to the store in dangerous weather conditions? Is their safety worth risking for someone to get a scoop of icecream?

@@Dylanlemay It’s actually quite interesting i’m a viewer that lives in Canada we get snow basically nine months out of the year.. Most the time when a blizzard is happening in Canada we can see it for a couple days before it come. sometimes we get flash last storms but they don’t normally last that long. Man's fr posts the same thing over and over about them already being at work and it being safer to stay and wait on every single comment about how the employees should've been able to stay home. Like we get it they were already at work but it would've been safer for them to not have to go into work anyways if there was a snow storm
This is why if the weather is fucked I just straight call in. No "hey boss, can we close for the blizzard?" Just "ayo I'm not getting into a crash, sorry fam."
Wow that's actually pretty shitty, although that's corporate America for you though. Your employees potentially getting hurt is more important than your customers.
@@Dylanlemay That's understandable, if they were "already" at work. Although if you know that the weather is going to get bad, it's better to send your employees home early and close up shop, before the bad weather hits. It may hurt the business, but it would hurt their families more to lose them.
Lol I feel this in my soul. I actually worked at an ice cream shop and people came and got ice cream in snow and hurricanes. Funny thing is, when I didn’t have anywhere to be during bad weather I genuinely like hunkering down with snacks and movies at home so when I have to be at work for bad weather and these people come out I’m just baffled. The worst though is not the “I can’t believe your open” comment from customers but when they complain about the weather like, “ugh I’m so cold, or I wish it wasn’t raining with 65mph winds it’s awful weather to come out in” like bruh you chose to come out in this weather for ice cream! Ice Cream isn’t necessary like groceries or medical attention!
I get both sides of the coin. Dylan is saying that it's better for the snow trucks to clear the roads, while others are saying Dylan is disregarding the employees feelings of safety. My stance is dependent on 2 things. 1) How well does the city do in cleaning the streets? For example, I live in a big city where it only snows once or twice a year so we don't have snow plows and aren't prepared for snow storms. When this happens, most places close based on weather forecast predictions or at first sign of snow because no one wants to be stranded. If this is the case, I side with the employees. But if this was in a city that is equipped for snow, then I see Dylan's point as well. 2) If an employee is uncomfortable coming to work due to once in a while external factors, don't ever ask him/her to go to work if they're not already there. Dylan is saying that the workers were already there but there are some doubters saying "why would they text you if you're already there?". I don't wanna assume negative intent for Dylan, but my guess is that he was home for the day
Probably should've at least closed the store, but let the employees stay if they choose. It's better to drive through a Blizzard in the day time than a Blizzard in the night time.
If the employees are already at work then its much safer for them to stay at work than sending them out to a horrible weather and risking an accident to happen

Umm, @Eliza… I think you may have missed the part when he said they are super busy especially during horrible weather. Therefore, it doesn’t make sense to send home the employees. It’s called business. 😆
@@nenabanena1018 , don’t get it twisted, dear. There is nothing wrong with diligence. Healthy, honest hardworking is a GOOD thing. I don’t believe an ice cream store remaining open during bad weather/snow is a bad thing. If anything it’s logical. I assume they don’t profit nearly as much in winter as they do in warmer seasons, so I consider busy days as such is a blessing. No one is losing in the situation. Side note, I live in Chicago and know a thing or two about snow; once snow begins to hit the ground snow plows and salt trucks are everywhere making sure the roads are clear. It’s not ad bad as you think, and if it was… trust me people would not leave their house for anything let alone ice cream.
I feel like closing for heavy snow is a very different experience depending on where you live. Where I am from the city shuts down and usually only businesses that business owners can get to on foot would have a chance of running (and obv only for the local area). Where my cousin is from everything is straight, flat, and plows are routine so they are more often "business as usual".
