Gorgeous. Did you know you can unzip the zip ties and save them? Get a tiny screwdriver or large sewing needle that fits into the end of the ziptie that you slip the long loose end into. Inside is a piece of plastic that holds and 'locks' the tie... press down on that and it releases the long end(so that you can pull it apart).... You don't have to cut your ties short, just reuse them. And you won't have to worry about accidentally cutting the fabric to release the ties.
So beautiful! I got s 3 color kit like a month ago.. Now i have every color and we now dont have a white thing left in our house.. Ive done the sheets and everything! Today is my first attempt with ice!
Very pretty I thought the dress came out very good I like the colors you chose and the pattern👍. I have a white dress that I plan on tie dying myself I hope mine turns out just as pretty as yours does😊
That is truly beautiful !!! You did a great job with adding lots of colour, but not overlapping, and having things get muddy looking. Very nice tutorial, and what a beautiful dress !!!!!
WOW! That was great! I’d love to see what it looks like when someone is wearing it :) I have a quick question, if you wanted to keep an area white what would be the best way to do that with this technique that you used? Thank you, and thanks again for the great video. I’m looking forward to 2,3&4.
hi! what kind of powder you use for this?, its the same powder for ice dye and liquid dye?. also do you know a technique that i can use to set the dye on the fabric?, when i wash up the fabric it came out with less color, look more white. thanks!
The link to the fabric is down below. It's from dharma trading, reactive procion dye. You pre-treat with a base. Wash with synthrapol. Also make sure to use a natural fabric. Polyester won't take the dye as well. The dharma trading.com people have more on their site.
❤️Love ❤️ ❤️Love ❤️ ❤️LOVE ❤️ Very Pretty & Inspirational... Think I'm going to try. And your Bob Ross reference Cracked me up... He is the Gift that keeps on giving. Past his death... Just found you & subscribed gonna check out more of your vids... 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
I think this is an absolutely amazing technique I can't believe I've never seen it before I think you did a great job designing it in its way and picking the colors turned out really wonderful I look forward to watching more videos from you I just subscribe great job
I love it! :-D I wonder, the cyan/blue that came out in between, was that where your zip ties were? Is that sort of the neutral colour that comes out wherever the dye colour does not stick? Like, cause, the dress was originally white, right so.. ? :-)
I just tried ice dying for the first time and the fabric that was facing up and got the direct dye is very saturated and the back is barely dyed. Any suggestion as to what I could have done better? Maybe too little ice?
Jenni S. Sounds like it. That happened with the first sheet I did. It was a very thick cotton and the folds were also set wide apart. The whole back, inside the folds stayed white. So try more ice and/or making the folds closer and tighter.
johnnycage435 the are called procion dyes. They are made for cold water and they work great. I have the link in the description or one of the other comments.
I was kinda wondering the same. Was the top/chest area bound in with the skirt? As it looks like the binds don't go up that high. Absolutely Beautiful dress btw 😊
@@gardeningfamilies it's gorgeous! Did you design it yourself or did you use a pattern? Please say there's a pattern I can buy, lol! I love the raw hems. Perfect example of boho! Especially after the dye job!!!
@@farrenrohana I don't have a pattern but it is based off of a medieval shift. This video comes close: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QK4wwQlML8I.html
What happens when you wash the linen in hot after dying? That’s what I’m concerned about. I’m going to dye some expensive white linen after I practice some.
@@miradonfbd Interesting. I'm not an expert on linen. I did not have shrinkage but I had worn and washed this dress for a few years before I decided to tie dye it.
I use artificial sinew and just pull tight - no knotting needed. When you wrap around and pull tight it creates it's own resist. My problem with cutting off ties is the accidental cutting of the material. :-(
Jude Sommerjones, do you have scissors with a tiny curved notch in one blade? Similar to scissors or snips used for suture removal. Definitely don't want to cut the underlying material when removing someone's stitches! Nurse's bandage scissors are also good; they have a "soft spot" that slips between skin & close-fitting bandages. I'd think either of those would help prevent cutting anything but the sinew.
Great tutorial. I am an indigo Dyer and use the same folding techniques. I also wrap in spots using thread or floss. And I love adding some shibori stitching. I didn’t quite understand the technique you used on the top in the center. It looked accordion folded and then folded on itself. The results were fabulous. Please make follow up videos with the rest of the pieces you showed. I am definitely doing this to make fabrics to add to a quilt.
