Starting in 2014 I recognized how call outposts were being used to unfairly harass and isolate queer people from their community. i think the situation with gaud being “cancelled” is just the all too common practice nowadays of finding a well known person annoying or unlikeable and then trying to find moral justification for that dislike instead of just accepting that you dont like them. i know because i fully bought into this. i thought gaud was annoying, i didn’t like their posts, i thought the ‘everybody changing their icon to gaud’ thing was a super tryhard-ish attempt to recreate classic tumblr events with their own brand, i didn’t like that they acted like their icon was their OC or something when it was clearly a close-up of one of those creepy japanese piggy banks that eat coins that went viral about a decade ago. but since i was still a teenager and impressionable i saw people who also found them annoying overblowing minor criticisms into gaud doing something morally objectionable, and it’s always more personally validating for someone to be unequivocally Bad than you just not liking them. its obviously super immature but i think thats what was going on there

communismkills is probably my favorite infamous tumblr user she was a perfect combination of super embarrassing, really stupid, and completely self-serious. all her posts were like the tumblr post equivalent of someone trying to lead an imposing military march while wearing gigantic clown shoes that they keep tripping over

Only ones I can think of that are missing are wereralph (he’s been deleted twice so he’s now were-ralph, and was previously were-ralph), and heritageposts. Neither have big scandals that I know of, but they are often summoned and just generally infamous. Also a very recent addition is nyancrimew (the Swedish hacktivist who leaked the no fly list). She’s obviously infamous for other reasons, but now that she’s been banned from twitter, tumblr is kinda her main social media site. And she’s been gaining more of a following on there, especially for the phrase ‘stay silly :3’.

Frankly, kind of surprised that pukicho isn't on there. He's been known for very consistently chaotic posts for the past few years at least, and he's garnered quite a lot of traction for having this vaguely threatening vibe, jumping unpredictable between cosmic horror and petty little pokemon rat. Like, specifically his jello vaccuum post a few years ago got an insane amount of notes. I would have put him on the same level as gaud in terms of being prolific and also in terms of vibes. Also, he makes music as well, though I never bothered to check if it's any good.

I feel the pizza user so much. As a hardcore Hetalia fan with a London OC I had to make due with vague London-related usernames. In Tumblr of all places. And one day the london-underground blog... just didn't exist anymore. And... I could take it. Still can't believe I was the first one to notice it. I sometimes think about how people react seeing that the coveted london-underground is just a long abandoned roleplaying blog of some grumpy Ian Somerhalder-lookalike, clearly written by a 13 year-old. Because it's still up and there's no way I'm giving it up lol

The way you described the reaction to seeing human-pet-guy's profile picture is pretty accurate. I did exactly that when I saw it on the iceberg. He follows a bunch of trans girls on twitter now and keeps turning up in their mentions. He says weird shit without ever quite being enough for people to block him, and doesn't seem to realise everyone is making fun of him. One of them kind of ironically started referring to him as their pet right-winger or pet bigot or something.

I-am-a-fish and I met pretty randomly forever ago over a shared fandom, and I was really happy to find them again on Tumblr. I'm very sad to find out they were bullied off Tumblr. Such a sweet and charming person. I wish people would be kinder.

The thing that always got me the most about Just Girly Things was that it wasn't even just mainstream teenage girl stuff, it was like...the majority of humanity stuff. "Being weird with your best friend" or "decorating the walls of your bedroom" are things that almost every person regardless of age or gender does. I have not watched this yet but you better talk about Human Pet Guy. Human Pet Guy is a tumblr classic. Edit: It is only right and fitting that he has the deepest tier all to himself.

Gaud’s pfp is actually a motion-activated piggy bank where you put coins next to its mouth and it eats them. Before I became aware of Gaud I bought one in blue and it is in fact terrifying. It’s broken now but I still have it. It’s a sort of pyramid-shaped thing with all flat surfaces except for the horrifying face.

Once got accused on Tumblr for "harassing multiple users of AO3 for fics I did not like." It was all based on one comment I made where I criticized a character and the author disagreed. Even the people spreading the rumors admitted that the comments they accused me of were entirely different people. When I would ask people who had been "warned" about me, they admitted that they couldn't actually remember any of the comments they'd "seen." And when they went looking for them, the best they could come up with was one argument and another time I had mentioned that a song that was mentioned in the notes was a cover and originally by a different artist. And instead of being "kicked off multiple sites", I had actually gotten a website stolen from me by shady business partners. I also got accused of calling an autistic person the R slur because I disagreed with them. I never one used that word. I had no idea they were autistic and tried to clear things up with them only for them to go "oh yes, I'M SO [R Slur]." I challenged them to release the messages to prove this and they went silent. I definitely did some cringe shit on Tumblr, but I never used slurs, never "harassed" people (unless you count regular ass fandom arguments with the same language everyone used as "harassment." If so, it was two way harassment). Talking about my experiences as an SA survivor and my feelings on depictions about it in media also got me branded as a sexist and victim shamer. I got conflated with and confused with different blogs constantly or had things I'd said about completely different things applied to unrelated situations. So yes, I can attest to the telephonery of Tumblr.

someone actually managed to interview constable frozen in 2017 (he is South Korean and doesn't speak English so they were using Google translate on both ends, so the actual content of the whole interview wasn't published) and when asked if he was a vore fetish blog he responded that he wasn't and "hates vore". when asked about a post with elsa in a ball gag he responded "hmm... well" and refused to elaborate. people have speculated that wording and conversations around fetishism and weird sex stuff was literally lost in Google translate, as well as culturally confused, since its very different in English speaking countries.

There was one I remember being around like a decade ago I want to say called thisiscleanprivilege that was run by someone who never bathed and talked about how discriminated against they are for this and they treated not washing as part of their identity and would complain about "clean privilege" and "filthphobia".
