Queenie and Jornir seem to be turning into the mother and father of the crew with three chaotic boys in tow: Barnabos as protective big brother, Taishen as the sweetheart middle child, and Skrimm as the rascal youngster of the family. It's actually quite cute in a way.

This has been one of the most powerful sessions of d&d I have ever witnessed. Absolute master strokes from both the dm and the players. The wrath of Barnabos and Ket, the mercy of Taishen, the heart of Skrimm, and the combined efforts of Jornir and Queenie at the end to rid the world of one last evil. Gladly though, I think that's a process that takes a while, to capture, restrain, and take a while to transform the dragon into what can be used by the brain.

@@Akalim well due to the fact it transforms the dragon entirely, even its breathe weapon, a majority of ilithid things arent immediate, like the tadpoles, it's not immediate turns into ilithid/mind flayer, if you remember the story Derek said that they saw of the elder brain of who they were before, it was NOT a quick process, neither is becoming an elder brain, so really, a lot of it has some leeway, some time before it kicks off. Otherwise, they'd have been fighting the elder brain, and, well...if you've watched the full video you know what else. But yeah, gladly for us all, its not quick. Also horrifyingly for us all. *ITS NOT QUICK, or PAINLESS.* So yeah. Itd need yo CAPTURE the dragon, RESTRAIN it, and be protected while it transforms it into a suitable host and, well, for all intense and purposes, a proper mount for a giant brain on its back.

I know it’s for the story but I felt so bad for Taishen. He blames himself for something unavoidable. If they killed the elder brain, the ship would’ve crashed too. And while yes not killing it was not the best decision, it was so much in Taishen’s character. I loved it

Spoilers 1:36:27 I was not expect this omggggg 1:50:33 Jornir became the coolest character hands down 2:05:13 I don't know why imagining Jornir beating up Taishen is so funny to me. 2:20:50 queenie motivational speech to Ket mannnnn 2:31:42 Ket is just angy boi, he's over here like "Man they are all talking about working towards their fate like they didn't ruin the plan I made my lifetime for revenge just because a big lizard man felt bad." 2:40:00 My exact reaction seeing Daisy alive 2:45:42 and 2:48:01 I don't know why this made me almost cry but it did 3:32:46 Seeing Mikey excited made my day 3:35:05 I see why people ship this 3:38:52 I love seeing the anticipation of everyone lollll

What a great session. I love how this campaign has had some memorable NPCs and I shudder to think of what horrors await the party beyond that of mindflayers and an elder brain. I love all the campaigns I have seen on this channel, but I think Derek is the best DM. There should be an Avantris shirt that says "Fuck around and find out". Great job everybody.

When this arc started, I didn't think it was all too interesting, especially knowing that the squid faced were involved with the smart ogres. But as I continued to watch and listen, the more I enjoyed it. It opened my mind to the idea that putting players through the trials similar to what Derek had done for the crew, it makes me wish I could become a DM myself one day. Truly touching stuff here, guys. Jornir stoically taking his own lightning bolt is so good, a perfect reflection of his thinking. I think many would call it selflessness, but i dont think it is. I don't know if I missed something, but it seemed to me that sopholith being saved by taishen was a DM choice, and not a player one, which did quite upset me at the time, but, truthfully, i think its a better story. OF COURSE taishen, the pioneer, exploring a strange and cruel world, would be the only one willing to show mercy. And Sopholith, while immoral, cared about life, i like to believe that wherever they ended up they destroyed a greater evil, that the forces of fate Jornir serves sent taishen along with them on purpose for just such a reason.

Spoiler It's so in character for Taishen to go with the Avatar the Last Airbender ending. Was it the right choice? The best choice? Dunno. But it was definitely a solution that made sense for someone as conflicted as Taishen.

Tbf they were more mad they didn't get to kill the elder brain because it could come back and hurt people again in the future more than they were mad about the ship thing. Taishen was more upset about the ship crashing than anyone because it destroyed a whole city.

Because taishen was determined to show mercy to evil he got a city full of people killed because the elder brain WAS FLYING BACK when it was banished. And without confirmation it could be alive and willing to come back and hurt others

I started watching witchlight from a recommendation from a friend. Loved it havent missed and episode since i caught up. The same friend recommended Ice bound. I didnt think id like it as much as witchlight but i was so wrong. This session had me in tears ranging from happy to distraught. I love the Avantris way of story telling. Minute 1:28:30 (?), Mace: "Barnabos has created a kabab, a Taishen kabab." Minute 1:28:56, Derek: "Dragon bon bon good." Me (out loud to myself): "Dragon bon bon...more like Draco-yaki. Mmmmmm." Minute 1:29:31, Barnabos to Taishen: "WHY ARE YOU TRYING TO TURN YOURSELF INTO DRACO-YAKI?!?!" Me (immediately after): *forcefully snort cackles, then spends the next few minutes trying to achieve a full breath of air after waterboarding myself with my own spittle* I am so glad that Barnabos (Mikey) and I could share that same wave length! (Pun intended, lol) P.S. OMG this episode had me hugging my pillow, my teddy bear and myself. There is one thing I need to point out. Everyone is mad is Taishen for banishing the brain and the resulting destruction of Ogretown because banishing the brain left the ship without a pilot. The thing is, whether they killed the brain or banish him, they would be leaving the ship without a pilot. It would have crashed just as spectacularly either way.

I believe that Taishen did nothing wrong. Like Jornir would say. It was fate. Taishen (really mace) made the choice to banish the fucker, I think that was the best thing he could have done. To protect everyone, to protect Jornir. We just wants to make sure everyone is ok and is felling well and making sure they have what they need, I always say to my friends that “Taishen is the mom of the gang” and this episode kinda proved it.

I cried so many times this episode, you guys are amazing! The amount of love you have for the game and your characters shines through so brightly. Watching y’all has helped me understand Dnd on a whole new level and will inspire me in every campaign I play in from now on. I’ve caught up with Once upon a Witchlight and once caught up on icebound, I’ll watch yalls one shots then Root or Prime, I haven’t decided yet.

That's actually a really satisfying defeat for the Elder Brain. I did pity him a bit, like Taishen, and as much of an anti-climax as sending him back home is, it kinda works. And it really fits Taishen's character too. Ogreton, though... All that work and they didn't save the town. They didn't win. They just didn't lose. Damn. Relieved that Manius and Daisy and all survived, though.

I love what Taishen did. With all the flack and the spit thrown his way, it was hugely in character to see past the beast and remember compassion. As a rpg murderhobo or a paladin or a raging vindictive barbarian, a stupid move. But I appreciate this contrast in morality.

Witchlight is really chaotic so I feel like jornir would have trouble. Torbek is just happy to be there so I feel like he's literally too dumb to have issues
