In this episode, I leave Jasper, AB and head a short distance on the Icefields Parkway to the Wapiti Campground. I am joined by friendly elk, who seem to roam around freely and in large groups. On June 9th, I leave Wapiti and head towards Honeymoon Lake Campground. I stop by the Athabasca Falls and the Goats and Glaciers Lookout point. After a few challenging climbs, I reach Honeymoon Lake Campground and am wonderfully surprised by shared camping for cyclists. I also meet Andrew and Emma from Ottawa, when they stop to fuel up at the campground.

Yes yes yes! I've been waiting for this one! I can surely empathize. I've done that nasty Honeymoon Lake climb twice now and it is the worst way to end the day. However, you already know by now that's it's nothing compared to Sunwapta Pass and that climb up to the Skywalk. I can also confirm that birds can and will open bags and steal your food! They got me by opening a zipper on my top tube bag while I was in the store at Sunwapta Falls. They're friggin smart!

You know, I'm so glad I wasn't fully aware of how difficult riding the Icefields Parkway would be - even though I watched your videos! The Icefields was SO STUNNING though that the climbs were well worth the effort, unlike Northern Ontario climbs, which in my opinion were not.

Another awesome video Agnieszka! I am so happy for you that you got to experience such beauty and thankful to you and your videographic skills that we get to share in it!! Especially Athabasca falls! The mountain shots are breathtaking as well! Happy that the Warm Showers hosts have shared local tips! How great it is to have inside/local leads on points of interest! You may have been wrong, the camera DID show those climbs! How much more resilient and strong you are in these compared to the first early climbs! You are your own mountain goat now! Thanks for sharing and look forward to the next installment!!

I had been very lucky with the kindness shown to me throughout the trip. It was incredible, and Bruce was part of that for sure. The cameras always flatten the climbs, they were much, much bigger in person, but you're right, you could still see some elevation in the video. :)

Another great episode. Yep, those mountains are tough. Loved how you met other people along the way. Ravens in Alberta are huge. Unfortunately many of them live at landfills, but we even have some in the city (River Valley). I had food stolen by a squirrel once on my tour, so you'll have to keep watching your supplies. The Icefields Parkway is one of the most beautiful roads in all of Canada. Glad you enjoyed the ride and did it at a manageable pace. The rest of Alberta was probably a breeze. Can't wait to find out... 😉

I find that smaller animals were a lot more troublesome than the big ones, even though I was always more worried about encounters with big animals (bears, elk, etc.). Having now ridden on the Icefields I can see why it's identified as one of the most beautiful roads to drive/ride on.

Fabulous video. The scenery just keeps getting better (as you said it would)!! I've never seen the Canadian Rockies. Seeing your video makes me more than ever want to go there and bring my bike. Hopefully I can make that happen soon.

Good to see a new video. Thanks for it. I'm not Canadian and I don't live in your country either so the question is: why do you ride away, on the other side of the road, when you see a wild animal? Do they attack people passing by?
@WheelsonaBike
@WheelsonaBike Год назад
I wouldn't ride next to a big wild animal as they can definitely attack, especially if they have young ones next to them. So it's just safer to cross to the other side of the road and give them space. I'm not sure this is a Canadian thing exclusively, any wild animal, I'd rather keep away from.

No ... I never ended up finding a suitable kick stand while on the trip, so the Sutra is still without a kickstand.

I think I'd prefer something like this - a stand that attaches in the middle. Thank you for the suggestion. I'll look into this one.
