This is not just a volcano update, this is also a bummer update with plenty of samples from a photo tour that didn't end well for me, but I did however come back with lots of footage so it's plenty to come here on the channel.

As usual, thanks for the beautiful and informative update! I Crashed my drone at Stuðlagil last year, just got over my first cold in years and my car is also dying after 230K miles (370K km)! I feel your pain!

Stuðlagil is actually a "respectable drone crash place" but it's worse to hit the water :) but the car is only drive 260k km 😊 would have liked it to last a year longer :)

I'm so sorry about the drone crash! For a minute there you had me thinking that it was dead. I'm glad the repair cost is less than you were anticipating. The footage from the new drone is spectacular! Maybe don't turn off the obstacle warning in the future. 🙃

Oh no, luckily the drone was not fatally damaged. Garlic is an excellente remedy to strengthen your immune system, so I hope the cold has cleared. Leaves the car problem, hope that can be solved also. Great footage again, there is always a next volcanic formation or other interesting feature to be admired. I hope you will soon be at full operational strength again.

Greetings from the Netherlands Gylfi, Hotdog with cheese. I haven’t seen that combination before 😅. I would treat myself with a ‘broodje kroket’. Almost never actually, and I would so like to do some photos shooting during a storm, however, during ash-cloud eruptions, we have plenty of lightnings, but don't wanna stay near :)

I am fascinated by the two types of lava that come out of Iceland's volcanoes: the mid-ocean spreading magma/lava and the hot-spot magma/lava. I ask the question: which type produces the majority of lava, and so which one contributes to the majority of Iceland's land mass??? I have just asked ChatGTP two questions: (1) What is the difference between the lava from mid-ocean spreading and the lava from a hot-spot? and (2) In Iceland, is most of the lava (and therefore land mass) from mid-ocean ridge eruptions of from hot-spot eruptions? The AI says (to Q2): "While the primary source of volcanic activity in Iceland is related to the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, there may be localized volcanic features that could be associated with hotspot activity or other geological processes. However, the dominant and overarching influence on Iceland's geology is the mid-ocean ridge system." Now, I am not sure I believe the answer ChatGPT gives. What do your experts say? Wonderful footage there Gylfi. I hope you're over the cold, it takes a good while and must be a strong one to catch you after 5 years. Amazed the drone is fixable, but I guess they're stronger than we think. It's a shame about the car, car's, and their cost is becoming a major issue for so many people and this is going to get very tough going forward. Looking forward to the Nerd video, I loved that cross section clip. In terms of the volcano's, one thing that surprises me, why given all of the activity and restlessness either side has Hekla been so very quiet? I wonder if it is hiding a surprise appearance. I dare not pick one at the moment, perhaps a new fault somewhere in south Iceland (or a big earthquake west of Hekla would not surprise me).

I gotta come clean, Gylfi. I'm half drunk, but the first 90 seconds of this video were _priceless!_ Truly, thank you for everything you do! Okay, the whole video was excellent, but the fist 90 seconds nearly had me falling out of my chair :D [edit] Gylfi, is there a camera that "sees" magnetic lines? Just curious, because that's a "bit of a thing" around tectonic spreading zones. My god, Iceland is so beautiful that I have a hard time believing it exists. It looks so Photoshopped, but I know better. I'm _dying_ to tour the island in my 1948 jeep. My god, the footage at 8:44 is so.. so.. _Tolkein,_ for lack of a better description. _Speak "friend" and enter_ _The Mines of Moria_ could indeed exist here.

Yes I made a ton of mistakes this time, the drone turns off the sensors by default in sport mode, most likely since it can fly faster than the brake distance handles. But I used the sport mode since I was running out of battery so it's like watching an airline crash analysis to look back, one mistake after another :)

Thanks, the place is called "Hraun in Öxnadalur Valley and iv'e been dreaming about the shots I want from there since I started to fly a drone :) but it's a bit tricky location, a bit risky and I'm not going all the way until the light is close to perfect :)

The 'DJI Air 3' is a nice drone for sure. However, considering that you are filming a lot of landscapes around Iceland where the distances are huge, I do think a 'DJI Mavic 3 Pro' drone with it's 7x optical zoom lens would come more in use because of that. I have that drone myself and I love it 🙂. However, the 'DJI Mavic 3 Pro' drone is a bit more expensive over the 'DJI Air 3' though. So it all comes down to how much money you want to use. Oh also, having the 'DJI Care Refresh' service is always a good thing to have, incase accident happens. I have it for my 'DJI Mavic 3 Pro' drone.

I had actually the Mavic 3 pro on my "wish list" for 2024 but the Air3 had the 70mm camera and the 7x Mavic cam didn't get good review for landscape, it's more of a "inspection camera" or so I'm told. However, it will most likely be my next upgrade :) but first I need to upgrade the car 🙂 and greetings to Norway :)

@@JustIcelandic Yes, the 7x optical zoom camera isn't the camera you want to use when it comes to creating those super fancy nature videos. However, for just zooming in to mountains / volcanoes and objects on the ground to see things more in the distance around huge landscapes, the 7x zoom camera is all fine for that.

Loved the little timelapse of all the streams crossings; that road looked pretty sketchy here and there! I once did something similar to you: flying backwards while keeping a subject in sight and not realizing how close obstacles were. Without any OA available though, I backed my Parrot Anafi straight into a tree. Nothing happened to it, but it was too high to reach. Luckily someone lived nearby with a ladder and willing to help, so I climbed the ladder and with a stick managed to reach the quad and wiggle it free, hoping the helpful individual was able to catch it. But he missed and the quad smacked onto the tarmac and a motor broke off. Luckily I was able to address that with some epoxy glue :-)

This the sky time lapse was also a drone wind test, terribly windy that day, but I need edto keep it up there for at least 5 minutes :) This time lapse needs however more work, tricky file that deserves a few hrs for perfection :)

If Bardabunga erupts I would laugh because that was my prediction all the time…. And that was again a great video. It’s a so sad what happens to your drone and your car. And it’s a shame that Iceland do not have any trains for free with all that energy they can get by all these hotspots.

I hope you feel better soon. I seldom get colds but I worked in a large facility for a year and got covid 22A and 23A after full vaccination. The 23A infection felt like a bad cold with 2 phases, but at least it was gone in 10 days.
