Walking tour in Hofsós, a small town in Iceland. It is one of the oldest trading ports in northern Iceland dating back to the 16th century.
Here are some highlights of the tour:
00:15 - Far away we can see the island Drangey. It was first mentioned in Grettis saga. Grettir was a hero of the Icelanders' sagas. Late in his short life he became an outlaw and spent his last years on the island.
02:14 - A memorial to fishermen lost at sea.
02:50 - Here is the Icelandic Emigration Center (Vesturfarasetrið).
It was founded in 1996 and dedicated to commemorate Icelandic emigrants to North America and to promote connections between their descendants and the people of Iceland
03:27 - The river Hofsá.
04:27 - Looking over Skagafjörður fjord.
05:31 - Now we will walk over some unique hexagonal basalt columns. This is called columnar jointing and can form in cooling lava flows.
