Not necessarily. I think a lot of rappers would blow if they were able to come in with their same sound. Now if we’re speaking on them rapping strictly 90s/2000s standard as far as production, vocals, and all else available to them at that time, then no some of these guys def wouldn’t make it. Especially cus it was machine driven with gatekeepers. The internet changed all that. You no longer need approval to pop off, you can get to the consumers directly now. But if they were able to come in with their same production and sound at those times they certainly would pop off cus it would be so ahead of it’s time production wise and sonically speaking that people would gravitate towards it. Kinda like how t pain popped off. He never had the best bars and wasn’t even considered a real singer back then. (Even tho we found out years later the man can actually sing) Not with the likes of trey songz, usher, Chris brown, etc. and many other r&b singers going hard at that time. He popped cus it was so original and unlike anything we’d heard at that time.
