Love the product, hate the price. ICF’s are manufactured via petroleum byproducts and anyone who is paying attention will know that this affects the price of the ICF blocks.

Do you have a video on installing vinyl siding on ICF? Looked for one for some pros/cons what to do/what not to do but couldn’t find any. Love the content BTW!

I would like to do ICF to the roofline. I want a fire resistant roof, so I plan on using metal roofing material. I would also like the attic space to be within the house's inside envelope. I would like to use either roof trusses with Rockwool insulation or SIP panels with EPS foam centers. What would be your opinion on these two options? Or Would you have a better idea that I have not mentioned?

@Navy1977 : I've looked into ICF roof panels, but I'm not sure that I would go that route at this time. ICF floors can be a good choice. I've built interior steel stud walls before and they are dead flat for drywall. I only use load bearing steel studs when constructing interior walls. SIP panels would not need any trusses or rafters. I'm leaning this way right now as that would allow for a fully open/accessible attic space. It would also allow for vaulted ceilings if our house design called for that detail. For SIP panels to have fire resistance they need to use EPS foam. If there is another SIP option, I am not aware of it at this time. Rockwool has many benefits: fire resistance, water aversion, bug protections, and good insulation value. I would even install Rockwool under the concrete slab.

Great discussion and topic! If you use SIP couldn’t you just install 5/8” type X drywall on the ceiling (2 layers of you’re paranoid) with the metal cladding on the outside? Seems like a solid option to me. I’ve never used SIPS but worth considering

We used to build all-SIPs houses both as a skin over a timber frame, and where the panels WERE the entire structure. SIPS work great on the roof. Obviously the thicker the panel the better the insulation AND the farther it can span unsupported, and there are a bunch of other construction details and considerations. You’ll need a light crane on-site to set them. We used a unique panel made from polyiso foam instead of EPS so the R value and strength were both superior. Good luck

PS all types of roofing will work but many mnfcts do not want their product placed directly on the panel, so you may have to create an air space w furring or even furring plus another layer of OSB. Make sure you know the mnfcts requirements. Back when we were doing it (80’s-90’s) the ONLY shingle product that would warrant direct installation was (now) GAF Timberline. Everyone else wanted an airspace etc. Do your homework and know your options.
