Here is my comparison of the two chain ramen places in Japan, Ippudo vs. Ichiran ramen noodles. When I first ate Ippudo ramen in New York, I didn't like it as much. But when I tried Ippudo in Japan, that bowl of ramen completely changed my perspectives on it. But... I will always love Ichiran, no matter what.

@@pico0o0o_ Kotatsu is a wooden table covered with a futon. Usually used by Japanese during winter. They can slip their legs under the table and just feel the comforting warmth.

There are more different kinds of Ramen in Japan, Mike☺️ so just let me introduce some. ⚫︎Tsukemen (Dipping Ramen) - Cyuka Soba Tomita is the most famous one ⚫︎Abura Soba (Oil Ramen) ⚫︎Iekei Ramen (from Yokohama) ⚫︎Jiro-style Ramen 二郎系ラーメン ⚫︎Sapporo Ramen (from Hokkaido) etc... Most of prefectures have local ramen. My favorite one is Onomichi ramen from Hiroshima! Onomichi is a beautiful place, and there are many good foods (Oysters, Okonomiyaki, Anago Meshi, soupless tan tan noodles, lemon, and so on...) in Hiroshima, so hope you can go to there one day (Sorry if you’ve already been there)!!!

I live in a city that has quite a few Asian grocery stores that always include a gigantic wall of ramen and instant noodles. Even if it's not restaurant quality, there is still always something new and interesting to find. My latest thing are the self heating instant hot pot. Only problem is the sodium is so unbelievably high that one must be careful. I'm lucky that my city even has a handful of ramen shops. I've only tried two, and one of them got dinged with a health code violation. But I mean, ramen is like pizza, right? Even when it's bad, it's still good.

There are different menu for different place for Ippudo, in my area, there is a menu called tokusei akamaru (special akamaru) which is different from the one in your video. It costs 1250 yen for a bowl, but the experience you're getting is totally different from any bowl of ramen in Japan. The meat are thicker and they use different part of the pork for that bowl, also you're going to get wontons in your bowl alongside all the other condiments, and I'll tell you, the wontons are out of this world. If you have the time, you should try Ippudo's one more time, and find the restaurant with that menu. It's gonna worth your time and money, I guarantee.

In Hiroshima, the best noodle shops were in the drinking district so it became a thing to eat noodles after drinking...it made eating noodles during the day weird and missing something. Ichiran at 5am...is the way to go, walk out to a sunrise and waking city. Also Hakata noodles in Fukuoka in an outside stall during the rainy season or winter.

A lot of Japanese including me doesn't like spicy food and Japanese food is generally not supposed to be spicy because spiciness kills its taste. So I feel some respect from the way of eating which Mike does.

Have you ever tried the Kyoto based chain Kirameki no Tori? So far this has been the only place where I found the ramen exactly how I believed it should taste like. Please give it a try when you go to Kyoto, just next to the Imperial Palace. Go for the chicken version instead of the typical chasu one! :D

Ive tasted real ramen on chinese airport and its 10x better than cup noodles, ive been craving it ever since, what stand out the most is the creamy broth and the thin noodles capturing all that broth its incredible.

I just had tonkatsu ramen, in the chicago suburbs, its as close as i can get, but this place was literally so small, almost hidden in plane sight. But i found it. And man i am so full, i feel like i dont have to eat for the rest of my life right now. You must have a tape worm because, i could not finish the whole plate, guess what im having for lunch tomorrow.

The best ramen I had was from a place within Ramen Republic located in JR tower in Sapporo. Theres 8 restaurants there we tried a few but by far the best was the one right by the entrance. Best ramen I've ever had.

Ichiran would be my pick. Being 1/8 Japanese, ramen was the first think that opened up my world to explore my heritage after being raised English most of my life. Ichiran was my favorite meal when my grandpa and I went back to Tokyo to visit his hometown. It was hands down the best meal of my life. I've had Ippudo in NYC where I'm currently working, and that doesn't compare. I don't even know if it's a fair comparison for Ippudo without trying the Japan location. I've eaten at multiple 3 star michelin restaurants, mainly at the completion of projects with my VIP clients at my firm, but I would rather eat at Ichiran. If you don't know yet, I'm bias towards Ichiran.

I recently went to Japan and tried both at multiple branches and I think Ichiran is over rated and over priced for what you can get at other ramen places. I like Ippudo better as they offer other things like pickled ginger and vegies shown in the vid and I like the broth better as well (tried all diff types of broth). Ichiran was ok except for the eggs ...u have to peel it yourself. was messy and my hands wasn't clean from all the things I've touched from shopping ( I ran out of wipes). I went to so many different ramen places BUT if i have to recommend which place to try , I would have to say you NEED to try Ramen Zundoya at Shinsaibashi! T.T I'm missing it so much talking about it! It's affordable compared to the other two. I love the egg melting onto the noodles, the amazing broth, the meat that melts once in ur mouth and the crispy Gyozer! uggghhh I miss japan!

The best Ippudo experience I ever had was when guys from Japan visited Mitsuwa. It was so good, I went back the next morning. Ippudo NY wasn't quite as good, though still good, and Ippudo Santa Monica was slightly worse than that - the noodles weren't quite as fresh, and they only offer hard-boiled or poached egg. I tried poached, and it turned out to be slightly undercooked. Never been to Ichiran, so I can't say which I would prefer. Of the places I've visited, Kyusyu Jangara had the best toppings, but their broth wasn't as flavorful (I was there too early to order kotteri). Men-Oh had the best egg. Tatsunoya probably was the best overall. The holy grail would be to go to Fukuoka and slurp from a yatai. Also: it's "gyoza," not "gyaoza." And I believe it's "IP-pu-do," not "i-PPU-do."

I just got back from Tokyo a week ago and although I didn’t have Ichiran, Ippudo was a world changing experience! Granted being from San Antonio Texas I don’t have many great ramen options, but Ippudo was unreal. I had the Akamaru set and SD is right that broth is Fried Gold! I don’t know if I can still have ramen here. I’m honestly torn and missing Japan already!

I had both in Tokyo. Both are amazing. I like Ichiran slightly better than ippudo. Can’t wait to go back!

I can relate, I made the same mistake few days ago. Had to quickly make instant noodles to to satisfy my cravings It was good with hot oil, I just kept watching more videos & pretending the noodles I was eating was the same on the screen lol 😂
