"Ichiro Girl" gets shocked for second time by the great Ichiro Suzuki as he is inducted into the Mariners Hall of Fame following a hilarious speech. #Ichiro #Mariners #HallOfFame
Ichiro is one of the greatest players in MLB history. Classy, professional, and loved fans and the game. He also had a special relationship with Latino players. He learned Spanish and felt a kinship with them, being a foreigner in MLB.
This man is a Giant in all of baseball. At 27 Rookie of the year. He could hit and hit for power. He could run, he could catch, he could throw. For me, top 10 of all time.
This man was a gift to the sport. Never forget him and always honor him. America owes you a debt of gratitude sir for always carrying "America's favorite past time" on your back with pride and doing justice to the sport. For being a role model to MULTIPLE generations of upcoming players, And for always being a stand up guy. America loves you Ichiro, We will honor your legend as best as we know how!
Think of it this way. Baseball was America's gift to Japan. In a country that is baseball crazy, Ichiro was an acknowledgement of thanks for that gift.
When I was a kid he came to my elementary school and read a story to my class. I didn't know much about baseball at the time and I remember thinking "Who's this guy with a heavy accent reading us a story?" Today, I'm thankful I had that experience since stuff like that seems unheard off now. What a phenomenal person both on and off the field.
I'm an A's fan, but I am an Ichiro fan forever. Truly one of the greatest of all time and impeccable character. He was so personable. As an away fan, he briefly spoke to me at Safeco during his warmup, when I asked him 日本語で about it. That little smile and nod he gave at the end was so sincere. If you could speak to him in his language, this speech was exactly the kind of glowing, glittery eyed love you got from him. ICHIRO! ありがとうございました!
I’m an A’s fan also but had deep respect for his game. We watched him in Oakland early 2000’s, my friend and I would start chanting ICHIRO when he was on the field or batting. The Japanese students in front of our seats would all turn and must have thought we were nuts since we wore A’s gear.
@@redorange They may have respected your honor too :) Sadly, and according to Ichiro, Oakland fans (those stupid right field Bleacher Creatures) were the most racist and hostile he ever encountered. They called him ape names and threw change at him. We have a colorful fanbase.
Yeesh. I just checked his eligibility and yeah. Imagine having to make the argument that Ichiro isn’t a hall of famer, to people you expect to treat you with respect going forwards. That’s be wild.
I was actually in Seattle during that time. (Sad, because of 9/11; the aftermath) but, Ichiro was THE MAN!!!! He's still one of my favorite players of all time!!! Always will be! He could run out a casual grounder; 95% of the time!!!! "SAFE!" #51 is my Guy!!!! 🤘⚾!!!!! That throw from Right field to 3rd was AMAZING, as well!!!!! Rung that cat, up!!!! "You're OUT!!!!" He sat there on his knee, calmly blowing into his throwing hand. STUD!!!!
262 HITS WITH A .372 BATTING AVERAGE!!!!!!!!!! That was the most fun season watching Ichiro break that record. All those 5-5 nights and 50 hit months. So much more fun than a HR race
@@jaydee4177 why even mention September 11th, it’s got nothing to do with the subject. “Boohoo I still can’t believe my own government murdered 3000 people in 2001 while I watch a baseball HoF induction speech in 2022”…
100% without a doubt one of the all time greats. An absolute master at his craft. A class act. An ambassador. The true all time hit leader. Who probably could have 500 home runs if he chose to. He was that good. I'll never forget some of the laser beams you threw from the outfield, the textbook definition of a cannon for an arm. Love and respect from an Orioles fan that spent a few years living in Seattle and I'm still sitting here cheering for a guy that I rooted for 98% of the time, unless he was playing Baltimore, ha. What a giant of the game. If there is a baseball pantheon, this man is on it with his buddy Ken Griffey Jr.
Man... Ichiro made being a Mariners fan such a joy. This was when all-stars still stayed loyal to their city. I'm sure this girl grew up with Ichiro as the hometown hero and having this opportunity to meet him must have been so cool.
200 hits in his first ten seasons... 3,089 career hits... .311 lifetime BA... truly a first ballot HOF'er and such a thrill that I was able to see him play a few times over the years.... and on a side note, the "Ichiro Girl" is smokin with the blond hair!
I knew he knew Spanish before, but this is the first I’ve heard him speak in English. I never really knew what a charismatic dude he really was/is, and what a great sense of humor he has! Couldn’t ask for a better ambassador for MLB!
The amount of work this guy put in to perfecting his game as a 5 tool player was incredible! I would say he is easily the Jerry Rice of baseball. And whats crazy is we missed a huge chunk of his prime!
He was unbelievable…I saw him play the 2001 season against the Red Sox in Fenway and he threw someone out at third from Deep right field…I was stunned at his accuracy and arm strength
Always been a fan and Ichiro was an idol to me. I played in the outfield in baseball and softball play so he was a player I looked up too. I remember my father calling me after Ichiro threw out a player trying to reach 3rd from second in a fly out situation. His throwing arm was incredible. Thank you Ichiro for your skills and entertainment.
I live in Japan and I hear him all the time on TV commercials, in Japanese. Good thing he lives up the road a bit and I can chat with him face-to-face when he goes for a run.
Ichiro was the only reason I ever watches baseball. And I even live in a country where no one cares about baseball. But it was very nice to see a reunion of Ichiro and that fangirl.
We went to the Fri and Sat games and the tributes to Ichiro were fantastic. Such a great guy. I wish his type of playing would make a comeback. Homeruns are great, but the small ball is really needed.
I'm not a rabid baseball fan but Ichiro made me watch. It wasnt all about hr and bashing the ball as hard as you can. Ichiro was a magician with the bat.... LOVE the speech, he will always be my favorite player!
I was just looking up his career stats and saw that, as a 42-year-old player, with about half a season's worth of at-bats, he hit .291 with 15 doubles, 5 triples, and 10 stolen bases.
262 HITS WITH A .372 BATTING AVERAGE!!!!!!!!!! That was the most fun season watching Ichiro break that record. All those 5-5 nights and 50 hit months. So much more fun than a HR race. Ichiro will always be my all-time favorite baseball player. Sorry Ohtani lmao. And one of the most iconic unique batting style thing where he held out the bat toward the pitcher until starting the windup and throw. Cool. Badass. ICHIRO. One of my favorite moments was when he hit a game winning home run off MARIANO RIVERA in 2009. Legendary.
Hearing Ichiro speak to the fans in English was the like the first time the Emperor of Japan spoke to the people of Japan for the first time at the end of the war.
I would go to Mariners games when I was a kid with my mom and dad, and I remember they said Ichiro was "faster than the blink of an eye," so I thought I had super-human blinking speeds cuz I could blink like five times before Ichiro could run to first! So many good memories. Just visited home and went to my first game with my fam in like a decade. True legend Ichiro.
So So So So So happy we had him, got too see him for a solid year in 2002 when I was there almost every game Season tickets that year was hoping for a repeat of 2001 but to win in the playoffs didn't quite work out but Ichiro was great.
