Hmmmm... We really appreciate this. If it weren't for y'all taking us along I'd be chomping at the bit while waiting to finish our boat, which is a year or so out. I couldn't take it. Seriously though, y'all are a really cool family. Thank you.
I’m one of those people who gets a bit of enjoyment trying to get a count on what comes over the rail. One count was 156, a quick scrub and 161 and the next 152 with the few that didn’t want to hang out for the rest of the party. Great videos as always gentleman. Keep up the great work and I can’t wait for the new boats maiden voyage.
I really enjoy your videos and your documentation of normal work activities. They way it’s videoed it’s like I got to spend a couple hours out on boat. Really refreshing and enjoyable! Can’t wait for some nice fresh halibut, my all time favourite eating fish.
Fished herring roe with gillnets in the 70's - 80's. Watching you brought back wonderful memories. When shrimping we always got our ice at ice and cold storage. East Point was upstairs then before new plant was built across from KEA. Thanks for naming the different processing plants, Matt, cannery row has sure changed since I left in 1980. You guys just keep on catching
Here in Cornwall England the old timers use to call Herring silver darling but now like a lot of places are over fished 🐟looking forward to seeing you soon take care stay safe 👍👍
Sure Is A Nice Day To Go Out On The Water and A Fishing Trip Is On The Order!! Enjoy your pretrip as I know It's a Big Job ( feul and ice, bait and baiting hocks) and food for you and who ever else's may go. Not just one day or and afternoon but day's! ❤
The way gill nets are hung the lead-line is longer than the headline, you may find it easier to lay them down in the boat the opposite way, i.e. the corks aft and the lead-line forward, the headline will always take the weight when shooting as its shorter, this pulls the net and eventually the lead-line which will drop by itself over the side keeping them separated. By having the headline corks forward it has to cross over the leadline and can and will easily catch up. We used to shoot 800 yards of drift salmon nets before they were banned and also 2000yard a fleet sinking gill nets on a 45 meter vessel that were almost always shot at full speed to keep them tight. I noticed in the video you were leaning over the outgoing net to reach the corks and keep them away from the leadline which is almost imposable at any speed(as you found out) Its very dangerous and can flip you over the side in a second if the net catches say a buckle on your sea gear, give it a go for safety sake and let me know.
Oh that’s interesting, thanks for the insight. I didn’t pay close attention when we stretched it in our driveway, but it did almost seem like the leads kept falling behind, so to speak. Could definitely see the web snag and drag, its catchy stuff! We’ll try it out next time.
The ocean is so resilient. How it sustains those big pockets of life like that. Its just wild. My boys love fishing for herring. We dont have a net though. They jig for them. Theyre alot smaller here but the schools are about the same size by looking at the FF. Good job guys got back out on the water with a herring fishing day. Good to se the deck of the fish tale again.
To sort out the catch from the net pull it over a stainless steel or aluminium pole horizontally like your gaff pole, propped on the winch barrel at one end and on the box at the rear of the wheelhouse, one person on the headline and one on the footline and most fish will just drop out into the box you have rigged up.
I remember hearing fishing the year after riches were made then the market feel out and we made almost nothing then to the pribalofe islands i wentt to start a crab fishery
hey guys what is that some beautiful herring you know there's a business there marinated herring if it's done right oh my God it's great I love fresh marinated herring
If you put em in water and BORAX the herring throw up and freeze betterwith out stomach content. I learned that from salmon fishinf. When frozen they don't turn to tunafish. Way better.crabs won't care either way. Better to fish with firm bait then mush.
Nice one guys, don't waste Herring on bait send it over here to the Foreign Isles (used to be Great Britain) I like fresh herring grilled with buttered bread for breakfast! Len how long does the ice last in the hold before melting completely?
It would be a good video for us to show us your knots that come undone, also how you secure your boat to a dock. We have seen this but in a hurry as you fish, when is the best time to order halibut and rock fish?
Always wondered what the bird line is for. Is it just part of the long line rigging? I've gillnetted and jigged, but it's new one to me. Great channel!
The fishing action is coming back! By the way, How many days is a single trip ? Judging from the amount of ice stored, could it be more than 5 days?. Thank you for this onderful video.
Ahhh...backbreaking netting...😂😂😂..i used to do nett fishing when go fishing with my brother n i really hate it..better use my rod n catch some spanish mackerel but he wont allow me..😢😢😢
