In this video I head down to the coast to take in the stormy weather and practice some ICM (Intentional Camera Movement) photography. It was challenging conditions in wind and rain, with a lot of sea spray sweeping across the beach - although I do absolutely love this kind of weather.
I had some ideas in mind on what kind of images I was hoping to achieve, and while I failed miserably at this, I learnt some valuable lessons and still came away with some photos I was happy with.

Hi Max, I've binge watched you vlogs over the last week. Nice to see a young landscape photographer/vlogger whose not trying to be annoyingly trendy with his videography, just keeping it real. Now I've debated and experimented over the wet feet issue for over thirty years. I've got boots of every type and description. The truth is there's no such thing as waterproof boots, whatever manufacturers claim or what product you put on them. Eventually I abandoned the whole idea and wore mesh trainers for a couple of years, which at least let the water back out again. Then I bought some sealskin socks for inside of the trainers; no cold water getting in to the feet but very sweaty and quite uncomfortable, awkward to peel on and off as well; tried ordinary wellies but they develop cracks after about a year of use, they don't keep your feet warm and I really don't like the flapping around the shins feeling, plus rain drips into them. Finally came up with the answer, and considering I spend a lot of time bog trotting and shooting waterfalls it actually works .... neoprene wellies, rubber around the foot, foamy around the calves. Grippy as trainers, waterproof as ordinary wellies, about the same weight as a heavyish boot; dries out much quicker than boots, easy to get on and off unlike sealskins. Water doesn't drip down the top as they mold around the calves and keep them warm, so you're less likely to pull a muscle. Get a pair that you can wear an extra pair of socks in in freezing weather but as they've become my de-facto footwear for the countryside summer or winter I rarely need to. They can get a bit steamy inside but nowhere near so bad as sealskins plus there's no laces to get caught in the heather. They're much cheaper than boots as well. Hope this helps. Keep up the excellent vlogs .... and remember, don't advertise crap when you get to 1000 subscribers.

Hi Iain, thanks so much for the advice - I actually ordered some new boots a few days back, but I'm going to look into this for sure for the days down the coast and some wetter environs - really appreciate you sharing your knowledge on this! Haha I think I'm maybe too lazy to attempt the trendy/ stylish videography! Glad you like the videos, thanks for watching!

Man what a crazy gusty day! Some epic waves and not bad for a first try at ICM.

Bit gusty there 😂 ICM is definitely all about practice and taking a lot of shots. I use an nd2 and go out on bright, contrasty days - sometimes works for me ❤

I'm learning contrast is very important, it's definitely a trial and error game. Only I hate filters haha, maybe I need to bite the bullet and invest in some soon
