Welcome back to the channel and today we are going to experiment on the 1200 mhz Ham Band otherwise known as the 1.2 ghz ham band.
If you follow this channel we love to experiment on line of sight bands that are underutilized such as the 1.2 band.
This band is open to all Hams technician class and higher so it's a great way to expand beyond the more conventional 2 meter or 70 cm bands.
And in addition we have a special guest on the channel WB2HWW a fellow ham who also has extensive experience on the VHF , UHF and even HF bands with an extensive repeater system in the New York City Area from 2 meters to 10 Meters.
And if that's not enough he also operates a remote base giving local hams an opportunity to expand their RF footprints. So join us for a special episode.

How's 1.2ghz activity by you? What bands, transceivers, and antennas do you use? Comment below and help us stir up activity on these underutilized bands. Check the description for additional content and don't forget to like and subscribe. 73

Very cool to see. I just did 23cm and 33cm for the first time in the June VHF contest with Alinco HTs a ham loaned me. It was fun and I hope to see more activity on those bands.

@@MikeN2MAK Great video on the VHF Contest including the 23cm simplex, as I am still in search of that elusive simplex contact on 23cm. I'll keep you posted! Thanks for watching Mike and 73.

Really love the IC-9700 and use it for 1.2GHz mostly during contests

Nice Radio. Yes, 1.2ghz perks up during contests but I'm lucky there is a repeater by me. Thanks for watching

First , nice resto on that Kenwood! And your response is exactly why I do my videos so thanks for watching and dropping a comment but more importantly for keeping a vintage Radio on the the air and for you getting on the air on the 1.2ghz Band. 73

@@hamradioonthego Thanks! Last year I did the same with a FT2312 that is in mint condition. I like to keep these vintage pieces of gear working. :-)

Here in Hobart Tasmania, there's a large group of amateurs who are active on 1296. There's quite a few IC-9700 radios. I'm using an Icom IC-910H with a Kenwood TM-531 as a backup.

@@ScottEvans-vk7hse That's great to hear! I could of purchased an 910h years ago but now I regret it. Keep up the good work. We are trying to grow its use here in the NYC area with the local club. Working on a new video about 1296mhz that should be out soon. Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm honored to have a Comment from Tasmania! 73

@@ScottEvans-vk7hse An excellent use of Ham Radio and your group should be commended for helping others, and as a matter of fact our club here is working on starting a net on 1.2ghz and that is the video I am working on now.

My radio does not cover 1.2 GHz, but we have several operators who have IC 9700 in our region. I have been asking many regarding 1.2 GHz activity in my region. Yet to get a positive response. There are a good number on 2.4 GHz/10 GHz for QO 100 operations. Even they do not have simplex operations on those frequencies. A few of them also homebrew transverters for QO 100 operations and provide them to others who are interested. 73 de Jon, VU2JO.

@@johnsonstechworld Thank you for your detailed comment. We here in North America cannot access the QO-100 as I'm sure you are aware but I listen to it on line. As for 1.2ghz I encourage all who have the allocation of 1296mhz to take advantage and operate and experiment. I am currently working on a video highlighting a local club 1.2ghz net coming soon. Thanks for watching and 73.

The video creator said he was going to sign off, yet the station wanted to keep talking, and again continued. Didn't want to let him go! Some operators are just not considerate enough.

I did not take it that way. I've known that ham for years and he gets excited about the system he maintains which I think is positive. I appreciate your comments. 73

I am not into HAM radio but CB radio. 1200MHZ? I did not know that was possible? I thought you were sending 1 watts to 10 watts. How much is the distance between you and the station you are talking? On what kind of antenna do you work? Many question that I would like to know!

Not easy, I know. I'm lucky to have a repeater nearby. May I suggest setting up schedule with a buddy after you convince them to give it a go then hopefully s third, and so on. I searched the used gear for some time for that dual bander so it takes a long term plan. Thanks for watching and 73.

Can't that radio do reverse, with a simple button push, so you could check the input without all those shenanigans ? Or even Direct entry from the Microphone ?

@@sleeve8651 Very true. I just recently picked up the radio and to be honest I programmed the only repeater in the area and the simplex call. Would have to open the manual and like I said it was an impromptu qso luckily I figured out the scan on the GO.
